That's the game! With the Mafia at parity with the Town...

IT'S A MAFIA VICTORY!

So, I screwed up when I made this game. Maybe not as bad as I thought I had given that it got down to the final three, but still, it was too scumsided. Three vanillas was simply too many in a game where the mafia had the roles that they had. Ninja and the Manipulative JOAT are very good mafia roles, and Gladiator is confirmable and heavily town-leaning.

That being said, I certainly don't think the town was hopeless this game. Moozer's role was potentially very good for the town. Best case scenario, it stops the NK and confirms him, as well as basically confirming whoever was turned into a doctor. The fact that the role is similar in concept to Owen's role from the last game is actually just a coincidence -- I had it in mind even before Austin's game started. Though, perhaps it's not a total coincidence since it was inspired by JoeBob's role in Austin's UPick Mafia.

Moozer, I know you're still relatively new at this, so I'm not going to go too hard on you. But I am going to go a little hard on you, because you're not THAT new anymore. You need to make sure you adequately understand your role right when the game begins. You had the town's best role, and you completely wasted it by not using it and then doing hardly anything to defend yourself. Austin had been highly sussed since DP1 and if you hadn't made yourself a prime lynch target, there's a good chance he would have been killed instead, and if Wylted had been protected with your help, he could have even caught Cerulean red-handed. But you didn't ask questions, you didn't use your role, and the whole town paid the price for your mistake.

Also, you shouldn't have honestly said that you were going to give the Doc to Luna. He was already an obvious choice for the NK, and that just made it a no-brainer. Lying about giving it to Luna but actually giving it to Bullish would have been a good move. Being completely honest was not.

Luna, you made a couple mistakes that could have gotten you highly sussed, though it didn’t turn out that way. First, you called yourself a Vanilla Cop, but described yourself as a Neapolitan, which is a different role and what you actually were. Second, you should have scumread Owen HARD immediately. Miller doesn't make any sense unless there's an alignment Cop or something similar. Why would I include a regular Cop in a game with a Neapolitan? It makes no sense. That being said, everyone seemed to believe your claim, and you were able to confirm WF, as well as Banana to a lesser extent. That was part of why I designed the setup as I did -- the mafia had a lot of power, but so did the town potentially. It all came down to how well everyone used their roles. My mistake was in not giving the town enough power. I think my biggest design flaw here was including the Ninja in a game where the only investigatives were a Watcher and an Odd-Night Neapolitan Cop. Austin should have been restricted to odd or even nights, maybe even made a 1x.

Also, I included Bullish's role as a direct counter to Cerulean's. I wish there had been more discussion about how their roles interacted.

This might be a bit controversial, but I'm giving Town MVP to Wylted. Sacrificing himself to prevent the town from mislynching him at MYLO/LYLO is the type of selfless move that the town needed for a shot at winning. Whiteflame is a close second. His analysis was logical and overall very good. His mistakes were just scumreading Moozer (who, although town, was objectively scummy) and assuming the game was reasonably balanced in the first place (definitely can't blame him for that). Also, he was the only one who was really engaging in theme split analysis, though he missed the mark.

The theme split was that the Mafia movies were all pre-Code movies. After Owen's flip, this split was solvable, though Cerulean could not have been caught that way as he had fakeclaimed well.

Speaking of, Cerulean is easily the Mafia MVP. He was widely townread early on and did good research to try and figure out other players' characters. All in all, an excellent Mafia player.

Anyway, I have a bit more to say, but I'll leave it here for now. I hope everyone had some fun despite how lopsided the balance was. If I ever create another Mafia game, I'll definitely have an experienced mod or two give me feedback before starting it.

  • WyIted - Lynched DP4 - Rear Window - Watcher
  • whiteflame - Died NP3 - Some Like It Hot - Vanilla
  • AustinL0926 - Lynched DP5 - You are Scarface! Not the 1983 version, but actually the 1932 original. Yes, even before the famous Al Pacino movie, there was this film, which was inspired by the life of Al Capone. Capone himself actually saw the movie and liked it. Antonio "Tony" Camonte, an Italian gangster in Chicago, rises through the ranks to become the ultimate kingpin, though it all leads to his downfall in the end. Based on this, you might expect to be the Mafia Godfather… But instead, you are the Ninja. If you perform the Night Kill, it will be invisible to movement-based investigative roles. (Tracker, Watcher, etc.) You win with the Mafia.
  • iamanabanana - Died NP4 - You are Casablanca! This classic Humphrey Bogart film was set and filmed during World War II. An American expat in Morocco, controlled by Vichy France, is confronted by an ex-lover of his who is trying to secure exit visas for her and her husband so they can flee from the Nazis. Conflicted, Rick Blaine must choose between following his own desires and doing the right thing. Now, it is up to you to help save the town from an evil force. You are a Vanilla Townie. You have no special abilities, but you have your vote and your voice. Use them to help expose and defeat the Mafia. You win with the Town.
Living players:

  1. Bullish
  2. Cerulean

  • Lunatic - Died NP2 - Rashomon - Odd-Night Neapolitan Cop
  • WyIted - Lynched DP4 - You are Rear Window! This classic Hitchcock film starring James Stewart depicts a recently disabled man who spends a lot of time moping around at home while watching his neighborhood through the rear window of his apartment, where he sees evidence that one of his neighbors has just committed a murder. You are the Watcher. Once per night, you may choose to watch any player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will learn who, if anyone, visited them that night. You win with the Town.
  • whiteflame - Died NP3 - You are Some Like It Hot! This classic comedy depicts two male musicians who must disguise themselves as women in order to hide themselves from the mafia after witnessing them committing a crime. Move over RuPaul, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon are in town! Now, it is your turn to help expose the mafia. You are a Vanilla Townie. You have no special abilities, but you have your vote and your voice. Use them to help expose and defeat the Mafia. You win with the Town.

This DP will last 72 hours and will end on Friday, October 25, at 1:45 PM EDT.

Deceased players:

  • Owen_T - Lynched DP2 - Baby Face - Manipulative JOAT (1x Redirector, 1x Deflector, 1x Bus Driver)
  • ILikePie5 - Died NP1 - Seven Samurai - Strengthener
  • Moozer325 - Lynched DP3 - You are It’s A Wonderful Life! This film is considered a Christmas classic these days, but received mixed reviews upon release and did very poorly at the box office, causing it to be overlooked and largely forgotten until it's copyright, having not been renewed, expired, at which point it could be broadcast without companies needing to pay for any licensing fees, and the film surged in popularity. In the movie, God assigns an angel named Clarence, who has yet to gain his wings, to save George Bailey, a suicidal man. Now, you can give players their wings. You are the 2x Daytime Doctor Inventor. Two days per game, you may choose any player to turn into a Doctor on the following night. That night and that night only, they will be able to target any other player to save them from lethal night actions. You win with the Town.
  • Lunatic - Died NP2 - You are Rashomon! This 1950 Japanese film by director Akira Kurosawa was the first film from a non-Western nation to really catch the attention of Western film critics and opened up the doors for cinema in other parts of the world. Rashomon popularized the trope of a story told by several different participants, each giving a completely different and contradictory tale. In the film, a crime has occurred, but the only things all the witnesses agree on are that a samurai was killed and his wife was raped by a bandit, but each tells the story of how it all happened completely differently, with the implication being that they all told lies based on their roles within Japanese society at the time. Because of this search for truth that provides no clear answers as to exactly who is guilty of what, you are the Odd-Night Neapolitan Cop. On odd-numbered nights, you may investigate any other player to learn (assuming no interference with your actions) if they are Vanilla Town or not. You win with the Town.

This DP will last 72 hours and will end at 2:30 PM EDT on Monday, Oct 21. Note: last night was considered to be NP1 although taking place after DP2, due to being the first completed night phase of the game.

Deceased players:

  • Owen_T - Lynched DP2 - You are Baby Face! This Barbara Stanwyck film depicts a young woman named Lily Powers who seduces many men and uses sex to advance her career and personal status. At the time it was released, it was highly controversial and garnered negative reactions in the press. These days, film historians appreciate it for its boundary-pushing nature and its reflection of depression-era anxieties. Because of Powers’s use of sex to manipulate men, you are the Manipulative JOAT - 1x Redirector, 1x Deflector, 1x Bus Driver. You may use one ability per night, but may not use any ability more than once. You win with the Mafia.
  • ILikePie5 - Died NP1 - You are Seven Samurai! This Akira Kurosawa film released in 1954 is still considered one of the greatest samurai films of all time, sometimes even one of the greatest films in general. Set during the Sengoku Jidai or ‘Warring States’ period of Japanese history, this film is centered around a small village which must hire samurai to protect it from bandits. Unlike many other samurai movies which depict the samurai as glorious heroes who have to save idiotic villagers, Seven Samurai takes a more nuanced view, showing the samurai as not all being honorable, while the villagers were still competent on their own, they simply needed help to defend themselves. Because the samurai came to aid the village and protect it from being ransacked, you are the Strengthener. Once per night, you may target any player to prevent their night actions (if they take any) from being interfered with, such as by a Roleblocker, Redirector, etc. You win with the Town.

Welcome to Classic Movies Mafia! Please remember to silence all electronic devices.

This is an 11-player game with three mafia players. DPs will last 72 hours each, while NPs will last 24 hours. There is a theme split. The mafia have been given access to a Discord server where they can freely talk about the game among themselves. I will allow each member of the mafia to ask if one role exists within this game at any time during DP1. Unlike previous games of mine, this one is not Role Madness, meaning there is at least one Vanilla Townie. There may or may not be more than one VT.

Rules:
    1. No copy-pasting your role PM or pretending to do so. Paraphrase it instead.
    2. No using AI (such as ChatGPT) to generate messages for you, including role PM paraphrases.
    3. No editing or deleting posts.
    4. No conversing about the game outside of the DP threads or any approved chats.
    5. No liking posts after dying.
I will not answer questions in-thread, except to give a vote count or a time check. Please direct all other questions to me over PM. Generally speaking, I won't answer questions about roles other than your own. However, questions about flipped roles are generally okay.

    Cast List:
      1. ILikePie5
      2. Owen_T
      3. Moozer325
      4. WyIted
      5. Lunatic
      6. AustinL0926
      7. whiteflame
      8. Bullish
      9. Cerulean
      10. Earth
      11. iamanabanana
With 11 players, it takes 6 to reach a majority. Majority lynch is in effect, meaning that a majority must be reached for a lynch to occur. This DP will end on Wednesday, October 16th at 2:15 PM EDT.

Now, please, sit back and enjoy the movie!

We need more games around here with more than 9 players. I'm here to start one.

New from director Casey Risk comes a thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat until the very end!

"One of the best I've ever seen, no doubt!"
      -- Roman A. Cliff

Life is normal in an idyllic small town, until one night when things go horribly, fatally wrong. With citizens dropping dead left and right, townsfolk begin to turn on each other. Will the evildoers be unmasked, or will justice fall to paranoia and mistrust?

"Meh, I had it all figured out by DP2. The town just threw the whole game."
-- The New York Times, praising the use of dramatic irony!

Get your tickets now! You won't want to miss even one second of... CLASSIC MOVIES MAFIA!

      __________

I'm super busy this week and working a bunch of overtime, so the game will start on Friday night at the earliest, possibly not until Saturday morning. I thank you for your patience.

      TOWN WINS

Due to a mod error, mafia will receive a no contest.

      ROLES

      Lynched DP1:

      Owen - Air France Flight 447 - Rolestopper-Inventor, Town

      Killed NP1:

Casey - Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 - Motion Investigative JOAT, Town

      Lynched DP2:

Moozer - Gimli Glider - Strengthener, Town

      Lynched DP3:

Pie - Gol Transportes Aéreos Flight 1907 – Flipless 2-shot Universal Godfather

      Deaths: 154

Terminal Outcome: Catastrophic in-flight loss of control due to wing damage leading to flat spin and ground collision (Gol Airlines), Successful emergency landing (Embraer)

Probable cause: Error by Air Traffic Control leading to intersecting flight paths between two flights, compounded by a failure of a private flight to use their Traffic Collision Avoidance System

Summary: On September 29, 2006, a private Embraer flight and Gol Transportes Aéreos Flight 1907 were flying over a remote section of the Amazonian rainforest. Though ATC should have contacted pilots in order to make sure sufficient distance was maintainted between them, they failed to do so and allowed the Embraer’s flight path to intersect that of the Gol Flight. Though the Embraer’s automatic Traffic Collision Avoidance System should have told them to pull up, avoiding a collision, it was disabled for unknown reasons (although data logs implied that the captain had intentionally done so).

The Embraer’s wingtip sliced through a large portion of the Gol Flight’s wing. The Gol Flight spiraled out of control and crashed into the ground with no survivors. Meanwhile, the Embraer, though heavily damaged, managed to make a successful emergency landing.

The accident became one of the most controversial in the history of aviation due to the alleged negligence by the pilots of the Embraer flight. Ultimately, two conflicting reports were issued; one by America’s National Transportation Safety Board, blaming ATC, another by Brazil’s CENIPA, blaming the Embraer pilots as well as ATC.

An arrest warrant was issued for the Embraer pilots, who fled to America to avoid extradition, where they remain today. Many of the victims’ families believe they have escaped justice, while they maintain their innocence as yet another victim of tragic circumstances.

      Role:

Because the probable cause of the accident was never conclusively determined (or rather, agreed on) by investigators, you are flipless; if you ever die, your alignment and role will not be revealed.

In addition, because many people believe that the pilots managed to escape the legal consequences of their own negligence, you are a 2-shot Universal Godfather. The first two times you are investigated, you will investigate as if you were a Vanilla Townie. In case of more of than one investigation, the more incriminating one will be neutralized.

Legacy: As a consequence of this accident, training and conditions for air traffic controllers, who play crucial roles in aviation safety but are often underpaid and undertrained, was improved around the world. In addition, training to emphasize the important of paying attention to TCAS is now standardized for all pilots.

Legacy role: Because of this improved training, if you ever die, then the following night your partner’s abilities and factional kill will be unstoppable.

      Killed NP3:

Lunatic - Helios Airways Flight 522 – Delayed Ascetic Bleeder, Town

Earth - Uberlingen Disaster – Universal Miller, Town

      Lynched DP4:

Cerulean - Tenerife Airport Disaster – N2 Actress Role Tampering JOAT [Bus Driver, Janitor, Redirector, Deflector] - Mafia

      Deaths: 583

Terminal Outcome: In-flight stall and catastrophic ground collision (KLM), Catastrophic impact and post-crash fire (Pan Am)

Probable cause: Poor communication between two planes preparing for takeoff and air traffic control, leading to an attempted takeoff on an occupied runway

Summary: On March 27, 1977, KLM Flight 4805 and Pan Am Flight 1736 were preparing for takeoff at Los Rodeos Airport, in Tenerife. Both takeoffs were delayed due to proximate causes. The captain of the KLM Flight ultimately misinterpreted an order to “prepare for takeoff” as permission to take off, and attempted to take off on an occupied runway over the objections of his copilots. Dense fog prevented the pilots from spotting the Pan Am Flight still on the runaway, and collision avoidance maneuvers were initiated too late to stop the accident.

The KLM Flight attempted to avoid the Pan Am Flight by taking off, but had insufficient airspeed, leading to an in-flight stall and ground collision with no survivors. The Pan Am Flight was clipped by the KLM as it attempted to take off, leading to an explosion of the full fuel tanks. Out of 396 on board the Pan Am, 61 survived.

      Role:

Because the accident was caused by confusion and ambiguity in communication, you are the Role Tampering JOAT with the following abilities (you may use one per night [and the same one more than once])

Bus Driver [cannot self-target]: Choose two players. Any actions performed on the first player will be redirect to the second, and vice versa.

Janitor: If you perform the factional kill successfully while using this ability, then the role PM of the person killed will not be revealed on death.

Redirector: Choose two players. Any actions performed BY the first player will be redirected to the second player.

Deflector: Choose two players. Any actions performed ON the first player will be redirected to the second player.

In addition, because the investigation was hampered by the sheer complexity, scale, and desire by KLM Airlines to avoid blame for the accident, you are the N2 Actress. On Night 2, you may target another player. If investigated, you will investigate as that role; on death, you will flip as that role.

Legacy: In order to prevent such accidents from occurring again, aviation instructors teach the importance of Crew Resource Management, which involves splitting responsibilities between different crew members to prevent any one mistake from spiraling out of control.

Legacy role: Because of this improved communication, if you ever die, then your partner will be given the chance to use one of your unused abilities the following night.

      Survived in Endgame:

whiteflame - Pan Am Flight 103 – Alignment Investigative JOAT [Cop, Parity Cop, Dreamer] - Town

Deaths: 270 (including 11 ground fatalities)

      Terminal outcome: Catastrophic in-flight breakup

Probable cause: Deliberate terrorist attack with explosive device

Summary: On December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 took off from Frankfurt on its way to Detroit.

Unbeknownst to all on board, a radical terrorist group had planted a bomb in the luggage of the plane. Roughly 1 hour after the flight took off, the bomb detonated, disintegrating the aircraft in midair with no survivors. Large pieces of debris fell on the small town of Lockerbie in Scotland, killing 11 on the ground.

The investigation was aided by a stroke of luck; the bomb had actually exploded early due to a delay in flight departure – otherwise, it would have exploded over the ocean, destroying virtually all evidence relative to the forensic standards of the time.

Following the accident, a protracted and expensive investigation was jointly conducted between several countries involved – ultimately, two Libyan nationals were prosecuted and sentenced for the bombing, though many believed the true masterminds had gotten away.

Role: Because the accident was notable for the investigation and fight for justice, rather than the actual accident itself, you are the Alignment Investigative JOAT. You have the following abilities, each of which you can use one night per game:

-Cop: investigate a player to determine their alignment
-Parity cop: choose two players: learn whether they have the same alignment.
-Dreamer: choose three players: learn how many of the group are scum.

      Legacy:

Though all those on board were killed, the fight for justice was relentless and never-ending. The investigation faced dead ends at almost every turn, but eventually managed to break through and find the perpetrators. In addition, airport security was improved so that luggage was more thoroughly screened for dangerous devices.

      Legacy role:

Because of this, if you ever die on a night with an investigation, your investigative results will be released publicly the next day.

Banana - Egypt Air Flight 990 – Roleblocker - Town

      Deaths: 217

Terminal outcome: High speed dive into catastrophic collision

Probable cause: Disputed – Pilot suicide (NTSB), Mechanical failure of pitch control surfaces (ECAA)

Summary: On October 31, 1999, EgyptAir Flight 990 began a routine flight from Los Angeles to Cairo. Shortly after takeoff, it went into a steep vertical dive and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean with no survivors.

The investigation was jointly led by America’s National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Egypt’s Egypt Civil Aviation Agency (ECAA).

The NTSB ultimately concluded that the first officer had deliberately pitched the aircraft into a steep dive that became unrecoverable in light of his continued inputs – they pointed out strong evidence for this. First, the flight recorder repeatedly recorded the first officer saying “I rely on God” over and over as the flight tumbled out of control. Second, the elevator controls (a hydraulic system that controls the vertical angle of the aircraft) was found in a “split condition”, indicating that there had been simultaneous downward and upward inputs.

The ECAA disagreed. As the investigation continued, they became increasingly worried about the NTSB’s direction of investigation and attempted to lodge several protests. They claimed that there was substantial mechanical evidence showing that the elevator had malfunctioned and that the first officer had in fact been trying to save the plane. Several simulations as well as forensic studies of the recovered plane components failed to support this.

The ECAA would ultimately back off from the investigation and heavily criticize the official NTSB report.

Role: Because the cause of the accident appeared to be fairly obvious, yet the ECAA tried to block the NTSB from finding this probable cause, you are the Roleblocker. Each night, you may target another player – assuming no interference with your actions, any actions they take will fail.

      Legacy:

Though pilot suicide is a rare event, it remains a spectre in the minds of all air accident investigators – Germanwings Flight 9525 is another contemporary example. Little can be done about this possibility other than to keep it in mind.

      Legacy role:

Because of this paradox of obviousness yet inevitability, you have a 1-shot roleblock you can still use after death.

      Flips:

      Lynched DP1:

      Killed NP1:

Casey - Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 - Motion Investigative JOAT, Town

      Lynched DP2:

Moozer - Gimli Glider - Strengthener, Town

      Lynched DP3:

      Pie - ??? - ???, ???

      Killed NP3:

Lunatic - Helios Airways Flight 522 – Delayed Ascetic Bleeder, Town

      Deaths: 121

Terminal outcome: Uncontrolled flight into terrain due to fuel exhaustion and loss of manual control

Probable cause: Pilot incapacitation due to hypoxia, effected by a chain of failures leading to improper pressurization of the main cabin

Summary: On August 14, 2005, Helios Airways Flight 522 began a routine takeoff. However, its cabin pressurization system was improperly set due to a maintenance error, preventing it from properly pressurizing as it gained altitude.

Though the pilots were aware that something was wrong, they were unaware what exactly had happened, and interpreted the warning lights as indicating a faulty air conditioning system. Before they could diagnose the problem, they lost consciousness due to hypoxia. Investigators believe that while oxygen masks were successfully deployed, they came too late to make a difference.

The doomed plane continued flying on autopilot for about 3 hours, but could not land. Eventually, it ran out of fuel and crashed into the side of a mountain with no survivors.

      Role:

Because the actual deaths of all on board the aircraft occured long after their fate became apparent, you are the Delayed Ascetic Bleeder.

If a non-lethal action is performed on you, it will fail as if roleblocked and will only take effect the next night.

If a lethal action is performed on you, you will be informed of this and will survive for another day and night phase before dying.

      Legacy:

Widely considered a freak accident caused by a truly unfortunate chain of events, this tragedy nevertheless led to important changes in cockpit design. With planes getting safer and safer, pilots often become the limiting factor – in this case, the plane recognized what was wrong, but the pilots failed to correctly interpret it. Today, improved cockpit design and training aims to prevent similar accidents from occuring again.

      Legacy role:

Because of this improved clarity, if you ever die, you may immediately choose to select a dead player; if their role PM is hidden or false, it will be revealed as the correct one immediately.

Earth - Uberlingen Disaster – Universal Miller, Town

      Deaths: 71

Terminal outcome: Catastrophic in-flight breakup due to mid-air collision

Probable cause: Ambiguous ATC instructions compounded by flawed collision avoidance procedures

Summary: On July 1, 2002, a passenger flight, Bashkirian Airlines Flight 2937, and a commercial cargo flight, DHL Flight 611, were flying near the Swiss border with Russia in opposite directions.

Though ordinary right-of-way procedures should have had both aircraft turn right, the DHL flight requested to continue on course in order to save fuel, a standard procedure. This was approved by the ATC controller on duty, Peter Nielsen. Against procedure, his company had made him cover a section of airspace that should have been handled by at least two traffic controllers, diverting his attention and focus.

Nielsen realized the danger less than 1 minute before a potential collision, and told Flight 2937 to pull up. However, this conflicted with the pilots’ automated Traffic Control Avoidance System, which recognizes other flights in the area and was telling them to pull down.

Flight 2937 listened to Nielsen and pulled up, while the DHL flight, listening to their own TCAS, also pulled up. They collided and broke up in mid-air with no survivors.
2 years after the accident, Nielsen was murdered in front of his home by a distraught family member of one of the victims. His murderer would be released after less than four years in prison.

Role: Because the air traffic controller was blamed for the accident despite the wide variety of factors that ultimately contributed to the tragedy, you are the Universal Miller. If you are ever investigated, you will investigate as if you were a mafia carrying the night kill; for example, a Cop would investigate you as “guilty”, while a Tracker would investigate you as visiting the player who was NKed.

      Legacy:

This accident led to new laws regulating how much work air traffic controllers could be allowed to take by their company. In addition, pilots received training to always listen to TCAS, even in priority over ATC orders.

      Legacy role:

Despite the horrific accident and aftermath, this accident was one of the most impactful in terms of preventing future ones like it. As such, you are the 1-shot Angel: the night phase after you die, you may choose one player to be protected from an lethal actions that night.

      Ding dong!

Ladies and gentlemen, as we continue to fly, we like to take note of certain checkpoints. If you look outside your windows, you will see that it is daytime again. Welcome to DP3!

We are turning on the lights in the cabin. If you see any bodies, please notify an attendant. They will bring a body bag immediately.

If any of you are in distress, notify an attendant. They will bring you an alcoholic beverage of your choice.

As always, thank you for flying with Mayday Airlines, where we make sure you stay calm and relaxed under air pressure.

      Click!

Body bags sitting in the back of the plane:

      Owen - Air France Flight 447 - Rolestopper-Inventor, Town
Casey - Casey – MH370 – Motion Investigative JOAT [Tracker, Watcher, Reporter, Inspector], Town

      Lynched last DP:

Moozer – Gimli Glider – Strengthener - Town

      Deaths: zero

Terminal outcome: Successful emergency landing on improvised runway

Probable cause: Cascading chain of failures leading to fuel exhaustion

Summary: On July 23, 1983, Air Canada Flight 143 took off on a routine flight from Montreal  to Edmonton.

However, it was doomed to never make it there. The plane had a faulty fuel  indicator sensor; this in itself was not a problem, since maintenance workers were aware  of it and were manually measuring fuel.

What was a problem was that their measurements were taken in pounds, while fuel  requirements were logged in kilograms; consequently, the plane was only given roughly  half of its required fuel load. Though several checks by both workers and the pilots should  have caught this, either inattention or laziness precluded that.

En route, the engines flamed out due to fuel exhaustion – though the plane had sufficient  airspeed to not crash immediately, it began losing altitude.
Fortunately, one of the pilots had experience with an old military base, and decided to  redirect the plane there; with mere miles to spare, they executed a difficult sideslip  maneuver (losing altitude without changing direction) in order to land on the runway. All  passengers on board survived, with no serious injuries involved.

The pilots were promptly reprimanded for their negligence, then recognized for their  heroism.

      Role:

Because of the courage and skill shown by the pilots in landing a stricken plane under  some of the most difficult conditions possible, you are the Strengthener. Each night, you  can target a player, making their actions immune to interference by active abilities.

      Legacy:

Most air accidents like this go wrong. This one didn’t.

You are INFORMED that the accidents in this game have led to a combined death toll of [REDACTED].

YOU MAY NOT CLAIM THIS INFORMATION IN ANY WAY. IF YOU DO, YOU WILL BE  VANILLAIZED IMMEDIATELY.

      Legacy role:

After you die, this information will be released with your role PM.

IN ORDER FOR THIS ABILITY TO ACTIVATE, YOU MUST HAVE POSTED AT LEAST 25 (twenty five) TIMES IN THE LAST DAY. Otherwise, this information will be redacted.

Became a victim of unfortunate circumstances in the night:

      No one

      Co-pilot Note:

Moozer did not meet the post requirement for his legacy role to activate. Therefore, the information has been redacted.

"It is over. It has happened." - Anonymous ATC, upon seeing El Al Flight 1862 disappear from radar. 4 on board and 39 on ground would be killed after the plane lost control and crashed into an apartment complex.
Welcome to Mayday Mafia! Have a safe flight!

      Flips:

      Lynched DP1:

      Owen - Air France Flight 447 - Rolestopper-Inventor, Town

      Deaths: 228

Terminal outcome: In-flight stall condition leading to catastrophic collision

Probable cause: Loss of airspeed due to pilot error in stall recovery procedure

Summary: On June 1, 2009, Air France 447 took off from Rio de Janeiro to France.

En route, it faced a heavy storm, which the pilots elected not to divert around – an accepted course of action, if not a recommended one.

Heavy icing intefered with the aircraft’s pitot tubes, a type of instrument which measures airspeed; this caused false readings, making the autopilot disconnect. All this was still acceptable so long as the crew responded properly.

However, the crew didn’t realize the autopilot had disconnected – as this happened, the airplane gradually lost airspeed until it no longer had enough forward momentum to generate lift and maintain level flight.

It thus entered what is known as a “stall condition” - which can be easily recovered from by pushing the aircraft into a dive to gain airspeed, followed by leveling off again. The inexperienced co-pilot, Bonin, reacted incorrectly – by pulling the aircraft up, which actually lost airspeed.

The aircraft descended at over 10,000 feet per minute from its cruise altitude of 36000 feet; Bonin continued pulling the stick up the entire time, preventing recovery, though he could have still done so at an altitude as low as 3000 feet. There were no survivors upon the inevitable collision.

      Role:

Because of the first officer did something unimaginably dumb that is still taught as a case study in aviation textbooks today, you too get to pass on your wisdom to others in the form of stopping such an accident from happening again. Thus, you are a Rolestopper-Inventor.

Each night, you may give someone a x1 Rolestopper. On subsequent nights, they may use that invention on anyone. The rolestopper prevents a targeted player from being affected by any actions for that night, lethal or non-lethal.

      Legacy:

Today, stall recovery procedures are a core part of aviation training, and no similar accidents have occurred since. Nevertheless, it emphasizes that the biggest flaws in aviation safety are still pilots, not technology.

      Legacy role:

Because of this increased focus on pilot training over technological rigor, after you die, you may choose to send a message of up to 200 characters to any person you gave an invention to. You will give this message to me and I will send it to them.

      Killed NP1:

      Casey - ??? - ???, ???

Welcome to Mayday Mafia! We hope you have a safe flight.

      Rules:

      1. Do not copy-paste your role PM or pretend to do so.
      2. Do not edit or delete posts.
      3. Do not communicate outside of the thread or approved chats (cryptography counts).
      4. Respect the site rules. Some banter is fine, but don't derail things with personal attacks.
      5. Follow the spirit of the rules and the game.
      6. Don't speculate on the timings or structure of the PMs.

      Basic Setup Info:

      1. The setup is role madness  - there are no VTs.
      2. Some roles are standardized, some aren't.
      3. Majority voting is in effect.
      4. 72 hour DP, 24 hour NP.
      5. Setup is standard 2v7.
      6. This *should* be balanced. I reviewed it with a friend who's an experienced designer.

      Important Setup Info:

      1. There is a themesplit. Mafia have not been given fakeclaims, but they will be given two chances to ask if a plane accident is already in the game.
      2. Each player's role has two parts - a regular role, and a legacy role. The legacy role will activate on death if and only if that player has met an activity requirement - 25 posts in the previous day phase.
      3. There is at least one role in the game which may lead to false investigative results.
      4. There is at least one role in the game which may lead to false or missing role flips.
      5. At the end of each day, I will ask an investigative question about what happened (e.g. "how many scum players were on the wagon?"). Each player will publicly submit an answer. Based on the success rate of the answers, I will give pre-determined information about the setup.

      Questions?

I will not answer questions about roles other than your own, or flipped ones.

I will only answer questions via PM.

"Actually, these conditions don't look very good at all, do they?" - Captain of Air New Zealand Flight 901, moments before crashing into the side of a mountain

Welcome to Mayday Mafia! I've long been fascinated with air accident investigation (morbid, I know). In some ways, it's a microcosm of all the things that make us human - ingenuity, heroism, stupidity, and farce. I hope you come away from this game having fun and having learned something about one of the most wild themes run in this forum in quite a while.

This game will have a special additional mechanic: upon a player's death, a post-accident report will be conducted to determine the cause of the accident. This information can potentially give leads on the mafia, but only if used correctly. More information on this will be revealed in-game.

Game will start when filled. Standard rules apply.

That's the game! With all mafia players eliminated...

      IT'S A TOWN VICTORY!

      Mafia:

      • JoeBob - You are the Election of 1788-89! You were the first ever US presidential election, as well as the only one to span two years without a contingent election in the house. The enormously popular George Washington won all 69 electoral votes that were cast. This election, as well as Washington himself, would set important precedents for how elections and the nation in general would function moving forward. You are the Godfather! You appear to be Innocent to investigative roles, but you win with the Mafia.
      • Barney - You are the Election of 1824! The Federalist party had fallen out of favor with the American people, leaving the Democratic-Republican party as the only major political party in America. However, there were divisions and factions within, and four different candidates from the party ran for president. None received a majority of the electoral vote, causing the election to be decided by the House of Representatives. You are the Mafia JOAT and have the powers of the three men who advanced to the contingent election in the House.
        • John Quincy Adams - 1x Night Vote Thief - Andrew Jackson won the popular vote and had the most electoral votes, leading many to believe he would win the presidency, but Adams surprised the nation by winning the most state delegations, effectively stealing the election from Jackson (at least in his eyes). One night per game, you may target any player to steal their vote. You will have two votes at your disposal the following day, and your target will be unable to vote.
        • Andrew Jackson - 1x Framer - Andrew Jackson accused John Quincy Adams of striking a 'corrupt bargain' with Henry Clay to win the election. In reality, there isn't much evidence of this and Adams probably won through sincere voting, but regardless, Jackson was able to rally people in his favor, and Adams would lose his reelection bid to Jackson in 1828. One night per game, you may target any player to make them appear Guilty to investigative roles.
        • William H. Crawford - 1x Strongman - William Harris Crawford was the minister to France during the war of 1812 and afterwards was appointed Secretary of War by James Madison. One night per game, you may target any player to perform a Strongman kill -- a kill which cannot be prevented by any protective role.
      Town:

      • Earth - You are the Election of 1920! The major candidates were Republican Warren G. Harding and Democrat James M. Cox, but the Socialist party candidate Eugene Debs also decided to make a run for president, despite being in prison at the time. Although incarcerated, Debs won close to a million votes, over 3% of the popular vote. It would be his last run for president. You are the Jailkeeper. Once per night, you may choose to jail any other player, protecting them from harm but also preventing them from using any active abilities. You win with the Town.
      • AustinL0926 - You are the Election of 1876! Republican Rutherford B. Hayes and his incredible facial hair ran against Democrat Samuel J. Tilden. The results were extremely contentious. Tilden won against Hayes in the popular vote, but there were widespread allegations of voter fraud, voter intimidation, and disenfranchisement of black Republicans. To solve the issue of who the winner ought to be, Congress created the Electoral Commission, a body of fifteen people tasked with investigating the election and settling the 20 disputed electoral votes. You have the investigative authority of the Electoral Commission. You are the 2x Cop. Two nights per game, you may target any other player to learn whether they are Innocent (win with the Town) or Guilty. You win with the Town.
      • WyIted - You are the Election of 1928! Republican Herbert Hoover defeated Democrat Al Smith. Smith was Catholic, and at a time of high anti-Catholic prejudice in the US, his faith hurt his campaign greatly, more so than any of his policy positions. However, Hoover himself would come to be hated after the Great Depression started during his term, and while he didn't respond to it very well, the Depression itself wasn't really Hoover's fault. Because both major candidates were judged somewhat unfairly, you are the Miller. You appear to be Guilty to investigative roles, but you win with the Town.
      • ILikePie5 - You are the Election of 2020! 2020 was a very dramatic and tense year for a national political battle, but former vice president Joe Biden managed to defeat the incumbent president Donald Trump, making him the first incumbent president to lose a reelection bid since George H. W. Bush in the election of 1992. You are the Town JOAT and have the following abilities:
        • Quarantine (1x Magistrate) - 2020 was the year the Covid-19 disease became an international pandemic, leading to wide-scale lockdowns. The response of the US to the pandemic was a major point of contention in the election. One night per game, you may target any other player to quarantine them, making them unable to receive or cast any votes the following day.
        • Steal the Election (1x Double Vote) - Joe Biden was accused by Donald Trump of using massive amounts of voter fraud. Eventually, widespread belief among Republicans that the election was stolen from Trump lead to an insurrection attempt at the Capitol with the aim of preventing Biden from being certified as the winner. One day per game, you may cast two votes at once on any player.
        • Blue Lives Matter (Deputy/Judge) - During 2020, the Black Lives Matter movement led widescale protests in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. Most BLM protesters were peaceful, but some were not and sparked violent riots, leading to backlash against the movement. These protests and riots, and the responses to them, were a huge issue throughout the campaign season. If the Cop dies in the night, you will gain a 1x Cop ability. If the Cop is lynched, then the following night, you will have the ability to target and kill any one player who voted for them.
      • Moozer325 - You are the Election of 1972! Incumbent president Richard Nixon soundly defeated Democratic challenger George McGovern. One of the issues Nixon ran on, among others, was desegregation busing, the policy of using the school bus system to achieve racial desegregation in schools by sending student to schools in districts other than their own. Nixon was opposed to the policy, labeling it 'forced busing.' It was a part of the Southern Strategy, an attempt by Republicans to appeal to white southern voters who were opposed to civil rights legislation and desegregation. You are the 1x Self-Bus Driver. One night per game, you may 'swap' yourself with any other player, causing all night actions targeted at you to be redirected to your target and vice-versa. Use this ability wisely! You win with the Town.
      • CatholicApologetics - You are the Election of 2000! Incumbent Democratic vice president Al Gore ran against Republican George W. Bush, son of former president George H. W. Bush. Gore won the popular vote, but the electoral vote would all come down to Florida, where Bush led by an insanely slim margin, only a few hundred votes. Controversy over the recount led to the Supreme Court Decision Bush v. Gore, which left Bush the winner of both Florida and the election as a whole. Because it all came down to the very last vote, at least in Florida, you are the Hammerer! You may only cast a vote if it is the deciding (hammering) vote. If you try to cast a vote which does not immediately end the day, the day will automatically end with your lynch instead. You win with the Town.
      • whiteflame - You are the Election of 1992! Democratic challenger Bill Clinton won against the incumbent Republican president George H.W. Bush. Independent Ross Perot also made a strong showing, gaining a lot of support and even getting to participate in all three presidential debates alongside Bush and Clinton. However, he severely damaged his campaign and his reputation when he dropped out of the race in July before resuming it several weeks later. Because of Perot's dropped, then resumed campaign, you are the Odd-Night Commuter. On odd-numbered nights, you may choose to commute away from town, making you unable to be targeted by any night actions. You win with the Town.

Sign up here to play in US Presidential Elections Mafia! Spots for 9-10 players open. Every player will be a presidential election from US history. I think I will do something similar to what I did last time and allow the scum team to ask if two roles are in the game before it starts.

Lynched DP1: Casey_Risk - You are the Nerd! This middle school stereotype is famous for being very smart, and also sometimes very annoying. You constantly but in on other people's conversations to correct them with your famous catchphrase, "Well Actually...". Many people dislike you because of this, and so you are the Miller. You win with the town.

      Killed NP1:

Joebob - You are stress! One of the ultimate challenges of middle school, whether it's lots of assignments or challenges finding friends, stress can be one of the total levelers of middle schoolers. You can make them so stressed that they can't do anything right. Thus, you are a randomizer. Each NP you choose someone and their action will be redirected to somebody random. You win with the Mafia.

Barney - You are the Snitch! This middle school stereotype is famous for telling the teacher when anyone breaks the rules, even when it is none of their business. You are also one of the most nosy kids in the whole school, so you are a new role I created called "The Snitch", (shocking, I know). You are a 1x affiliation cop, but your results, and the role/character/and night actions of your target will also be shared with the Mafia. You win with the town.

      Lynched DP2:

Owen_T - You are the Popular kid! You hold much sway over all the other kids in your school. If anyone wants to be cool, they have to copy you or be your friend, so you have lots of power. Thus, you are the Vote Thief. During the DP, you can influence somebody else with your popularity and get them to change their vote to whoever you are voting for. This action can be used as many times as you want during the DP, or doesn't have to be used at all, but can only be used on one person at a time. You win with the Town.

      Killed NP2:

Ilikepie5 - You are the Class President. I'll be honest, there isn't much of a stereotype for this kind of middle schooler, I was just running out of Ideas. I thought about making you a king but thought that might be a bit too much, so you are the Governor. Once per game, at the end of a DP, or anytime throughout it, you may PM me and use your ability. If you do so, the Lynch and the end of the DP will be changed to a No-Lynch. You win with the Town.

      Killed NP3:

WyIted - You are the Quiet Kid! Normally, you just sit in the back of the class and say nothing to nobody. Recently there have been a lot of memes on the internet that make the joke that this kid is a school shooter in disguise, so you are a 1x Vigilante. You win with the Town.

      Remaining players:

      1. Austin
      2. Whiteflame
      3. CatholicApologetics

This DP ends at 2:00 PM western time on Aug. 20

Additional Info: Austin has been silenced expect for 3 VTLs

      Remaining players:

      1. Austin
      2. Whiteflame
      3. WyIted
      4. CatholicApologetics

This DP ends at 9:00 AM western time on Aug. 19

Basic Mafia rules apply. If you have any specific questions, you can always PM me. DPs are 72 hours and NPs are 24. This DP ends at 12:00 August 15.

Tag me if you need a vote count or a time check.

Also remember, Scum knows all the characters in the game, but not the roles or who has them.

With 9 players it takes 5 votes to Lynch. Have fun!

I won’t be giving much more information on the topic just because that might give away the theme split early on. You’ll figure it out pretty quickly though.

Basic Mafia rules apply, if it seems like cheating, it probably is, but check with me first.

One new thing I’m trying, Scum will know what characters are in the game, but will not know their corresponding roles or who got each one.

      ## Mafia wins

      1. Casey, you are Kanye west - "I see good things about Hitler" Your jewdar is off the charts. You can know the true nature of anyone and therefore can investigate them to reveal their role and character. You win with the mafia

      2. Savant, You are Donald Trump, a proven time traveler. You use your time travel abilities to spark chaos and to flip the script on the deep state. Each night you may swap 2 people's roles. You are the chaos agent. You win with the mafia

      ## Town

      1. Austin: Jim Kindeldon from the movie Groundhog's day. You keep returning to the same day as a result you are the timelord. 1x per game you may reset the timeline in the twilight period of the dp and it restarts. You win with town

      2. Owen: You are Howard dean. Your scream can end any attempt to vote you at all. You may use the dean scream to end your vote train 1x (used dp2).  You win with town

      3. Lunatic: You are Dennis Green- They are who you think they are. If you correctly guess who is on the mafia team by submitting your choice than you will lose your vote the next dp. You win with town.

      4. ilikepie: You are terrence howard. Due to your superior math abalities you can multiple your 1 vote by 1 and have 2 votes. You are a 1x double voter. You win with the town.

      5. whiteflame: You are John Titor. You came back to not only warn us of the coming tragedies, but potentially fix our timeline so it doesn't end up like yours. You win with town.

**Temporal Archaeologist :** Studies past timelines, uncovering a player's previous roles if they have been swapped or changed

      6.  Joebob: You are Big Red. You can defeat the patriarchy by telling people to STFU. Therefore you are the silencer. You win with town

      7. Disc: You are Adolph Hitler. You can travel through time and use this ability to travel back in time after your lynch to take somebody down with you. You are the hunter. You win with the town

      8. Barney: You are Short king. As the short king you are simultaneously hated by all women, and unfairly so. You just want some God damn respect. You are the hated and require one less vote to lynch. You win with the town

      ## Thoughts

This was supposed to be a highly experimental game, but things did not work out like I expected. For example Savant swapped roles with a dead person and swapped another dead persons roles. I don't think Casey needed to fake claim a character when the theme was deemed not to be discernable. Barney is also right that Bill O'Reilly is not a reporter, but wrong that Fox through their news team under the bus. They just differentiate their news shows from their talk shows,

Not discernable does not mean a theme does not exist though. The theme was MAGA vs the world.  Disc, made an excellent play. no DP2. I think scum got a bit unlucky with who whiteflame role copped, and I also think Savant could have maybe sewn some more Chaos by switching the roles of live players. If the roles of half the town were swapped at the beginning of DP3 than the game would be a bit harder to figure out. Maybe if they did not find their own role cop useful, swap it with lunatic on NP1.

I hope it doesn't seem I am being harsh with the scum team. I was just hoping for the scum team to win and so the most feedback is always going to go that direction. I think Casey's scum game has improved. I do feel like and town didn't see this but that this particular scum team could work on their IDGAF atttitude, as there was some panic when they get to L2 or even L3 that just doesn't need to be there.

      I hope you all enjoyed

With the mafia at parity with the town...

      IT'S A MAFIA VICTORY!

      Mafia:

      • Whiteflame - You are Kazuma Asogi! You’re a star student at Yumei University and an all-around cool dude, though you’re a bit on the edgy side. You always carry around a katana called Karuma. You are the Ninja. If you carry out the factional Night Kill, it will be invisible to any investigative roles. You win with the Mafia.
      • Moozer [Replaced by Earth before the start of the game] - You are Ryunosuke Naruhodo! You traveled to London, the capital of the British Empire, where you practiced law in the legendary Old Bailey courthouse and became the great ace attorney! You do good things… but you’re still a lawyer in the end, and you know all those lawyer jokes, right? You are the Mafia JOAT - 1x Lawyer, 1x Redirector, 1x Roleblocker, 1x Stalker, 1x Janitor. You may use one or two of your abilities on any night, but you cannot use any ability more than once. You win with the Mafia.
        • Lawyer - You may target yourself or your mafia partner. The one you target will investigate as innocent for that night only
        • Redirector - You may redirect any and all actions directed at one player towards another instead.
        • Roleblocker - You may block a player from using any actions during the night you use this ability.
        • Stalker - You may learn the character and role of any player.
        • Janitor - If the player you target dies during the night you target them, only the mafia will learn their character and role.
      Town:

      • Mharman - You are Phoenix Wright! You are the famous bluffing defense attorney who always finds a way to win, even when all seems hopeless. You’ve saved many clients over the years, including ones who likely would have received the death penalty if found guilty. You are the 2x Doctor. Once per night, you may choose to save someone. That player cannot be killed that NP. You may only use this ability twice in total. You win with the Town.
      • Savant - You are Athena Cykes! You were born with super sensitive hearing that allows you to hear the discord in people’s hearts. When you were young, a friend of yours confessed to a terrible crime, but you knew he was innocent. It’s one of the things that inspired you to become a defense attorney. You are the 1x Magistrate. Once per game, you may visit someone during the night. That player cannot be lynched the following DP. You win with the Town.
      • Luna - You are Ema Skye! You were raised primarily by your older sister, a police detective. Her job caused you to become interested in forensic science from a young age. It became your dream to grow up to be a forensic investigator. You are the Tracker. Once per night, you may choose to track someone. You will learn who that player visited that night. You win with the Town.
      • Wylted - You are Mia Fey, a lawyer and a mentor to Phoenix Wright! Unfortunately, you die very shortly after being introduced. Fortunately, you grew up in a clan of spirit mediums, and your younger sister and cousin channel your spirit whenever Phoenix needs help. You are the Restless Spirit. If you die, you may still vote the following DP. You may not send any messages, and you may only Unvote once. You win with the Town.
      • Austin - You are Maya Fey! The younger sister of Phoenix Wright’s mentor, Mia, you become Wright’s close companion. It’s good for you that you become close friends with a defense attorney, because you get falsely accused of murder several times. Seriously, it happens a lot, to the point that it’s a meme among the fandom that you probably are guilty of some actual murder since you keep getting accused of it. You are the Odd-night Miller. You investigate as guilty on odd-numbered night phases. You win with the Town.
      • Owen - You are Pearl Fey! You’re a spirit channeling prodigy, as well as being just a sweet, adorable little kid. You are the DP4 Innocent Child. If you survive to the start of DP4, your affiliation will be mod-confirmed. You win with the Town.
      • JoeBob - You are the Judge! He’s never given an actual name, but everyone knows him. He’s an old geezer who can be a bit naive at times, but he always makes the right decision in the end. You are the 1x Justice. Once per game, you may choose two players to visit at night. You will learn whether the two players you investigated have the same alignment or two different alignments. You win with the Town.

Court is now in session for Day Phase 1 of Ace Attorney Mafia. Let the trial begin!

Some information about this particular game (some of this is included specifically for the benefit of our new player):

      • This is a 9-player game with 2 mafia players. It is also a 'role madness' game, meaning that every player has a role and there are no vanillas.
      • Every character is from the Ace Attorney franchise. There is also a theme split, meaning that all the mafia characters share a certain commonality that is not shared by any of the town characters.
      • Before the start of this game, the mafia players were given the opportunity to ask if two characters and two roles are in the game.
      • Moozer unfortunately had to drop out of this game. Earth has agreed to take his place.
      Standard rules apply:
      1. No copy-pasting your role PM, pretending to do so, or giving a version of it which is almost not changed at all.
      2. No editing or deleting posts.
      3. No conversing about the game outside of the DP threads or any approved chats.
      Living players:
      1. Mharman
      2. whiteflame
      3. Savant
      4. Owen_T
      5. JoeBob
      6. AustinL0926
      7. WyIted
      8. Earth
      9. Lunatic
With nine living players, it takes five players to reach a majority vote.

      Winners: Mafia (Pie and Casey)

      Roles:

      Lynched D1:

Savant – you are the Joker! You win with the town.

Smooth Criminal (Active, x1 per game) – Despite various attempts by Batman to bring you to justice, you always seem to get away with it. As such, one night per game, you may choose to become bulletproof.

Agent of Chaos (Active, x1 per game) - You love nothing more than to watch the world burn. One day per game, you may choose to steal a player’s vote, allowing you to use it for yourself. You may not use this ability at MYLO or LYLO.

      Lynched D2:

Joebob – you are Erno Rubik! You win with the town.

Creative Inventor (Active, x1 per day) – you are known for inventing the Rubik’s cube, one of the most popular toys ever made. Each day, you may give a Rubik’s cube to another player. They can either [Scramble] or [Solve] the cube, which are the following abilities:

Scramble: Commute, being immune to all actions for that night.

Solve: Self-strengthen, having their ability be immune to interference that night.

      Lynched D3:

Casey – you are “Un Chien Andalou.” You win with the mafia.

Meaning? What Meaning? (Passive) - I’m sure that there’s some deep meaning behind your movie... but good luck figuring it out. Any players targeting you will have their action fail.

Critical Reception (Passive) – You were enormously popular for your time and considered a landmark in surrealist cinema. You take one more vote to lynch than normal. This ability is disabled at MYLO and LYLO.

      Killed N3:

Earth – you are the “Rohirrim charge at Pelennor Fields.” You win with the town.

Inspiring Speech (Active, x1 per game) – Your scene is famous for being prefaced by a passionate battle speech. One night per game, you may select two players, and you will be put in a private communication topic with them for the rest of the game. This action cannot be interfered with, and non-town players can also be recruited.

CHARGEEEE! (Active, x1 per game) - Your battle is probably one of the most beautiful, bloody scenes ever put to cinema. If you and the two players you selected in [Inspiring Speech] unanimously agree on a target, then you will may use a 1-shot vigilante kill.

Moozer – You are Bart Simpson! You win with the town.

No Respect for Authority (Active, x1 per night) - Over the course of the show, you’ve done some stuff that should really get you arrested. Each night, you may commit one crime on another player. Once you’ve committed a crime, you cannot commit it again.

-Grand Theft Auto: The act of illegally stealing a vehicle. You may target a player and roleblock them for the night, preventing them from taking any actions.

-Vandalism: The act of unlawfully defacing property. You may target a player and rolestop them for the night, preventing them from being affected by any actions.

-Stalking: The act of unlawfully following another person. You may target a player and learn who they visited that night.

Too Cute by Half (Passive, D3) - Despite being generally mischievious, most people in Springfield still treat you like a good kid. If you have not committed any crimes by the start of day 3, then you will be revealed as town-aligned.

      Lynched D4:

Wylted – you are "You are a piece of shit for even asking me for my character claim, fuck you. Now I think you are scum and we should lynch you faggot." You win with the town.

Fuck off, you’re not getting my claim (Passive, x1 per game) - No way are these idiots getting your claim! The first time you are put at L – 1, all votes on you will be removed and you will become unvotable for the rest of the day. This ability will not activate at MYLO or LYLO.

Who the fuck do you think you are? (Active, x1 per night) - Anyone voting you is scum. Duh. Each night, you may investigate one player who was voting for you at the end of the previous day to learn their alignment.

      Endgamed:

Barney – You are RSVLTS! You win with the town.

Fashionable! (Active, x1 per day) – Your clothing brand is bold and daring. Each day, you may give a shirt to another player. If the player accepts, then this player will be protected from all lethal actions that night but will lose any active actions. You will not be informed on whether they accepted the shirt.

Limited Edition (Active, x1 per game) - You have a limited edition collectable shirt that’s going to sell for big money. One day per game, you may publicly auction a shirt. The bidding mechanism works as follows:
-Players may bid by voting for the shirt (same as voting to lynch)
-The number of votes to hammer the shirt will be a number randomly selected between 2 and the number of living players excluding yourself.
-You may not bid for your own shirt.
-The player that bids the hammering vote will receive the shirt.
-The shirt will grant a 1-shot vigilante kill ability.
-The day will continue after the bidding ends.

Lunatic – you are “if a bear farts in the forest, but no one is around to smell it, does it still stink?”

Yes, it does (Active, x1 per game) - You believe that the world is an objective truth. One night per game, you may activate this ability, and be informed of how many players acted that night. This ability is mutually exclusive with [No, it doesn’t], meaning that you may not use that ability once you use this one.

No, it doesn’t (Active, x1 per game) - You believe that the world is formed by perception and observation. One night per game, you may activate this ability, and be informed of how many actions were performed in total that night. This ability is mutually exclusive with [Yes, it does], meaning that you may not use that ability once you use this one.

Pie – you are “Donald J. Trump." You win with the mafia.

LOCK HER UP (Active, x1 per night) – You really don’t like Hillary Clinton. In fact, you would rather see her in jail. Each night, you may Jailkeep another player, protecting and roleblocking them for the night.

STOP THE COUNT (Active, x1 per game) - During the 2020 election, you tried various quasi-legal methods to overturn the result. One night per game, you may choose a player to become unlynchable for the next day. This player cannot be you or your partner. This ability cannot be used at MYLO or LYLO.

MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN (Passive, x1 per game) - Your famous reelection campaign slogan. If you or your partner gets lynched, then the following night the factional kill will be unstoppable and undetectable.

Welcome to UPick Mafia! Have fun!

      Flips:

Welcome to UPick Mafia! I put a lot of time, effort, and passion into this game, so I really hope it works out well.

      Rules:

      6. I did not send all the role PMs at the same time, and they don't all have the exact same format. Do not discuss the timing or precise structure of your role PM.

Also, a modkill on town will end the DP immediately. Don't try it.

      Setup Info:

      1. The setup is role madness - all players have at least one custom ability.
      2. Many of the roles have been custom-made by mishmashing various other roles and mechanics.
      3. Majority voting is in effect.
      4. 72 hour DP, 24 hour NP.
      5. Setup is standard 2v7.
      6. I reviewed this setup with two of my mafia-playing friends. One of them said it was townsided, the other said it was scumsided, so I'm going to call it balanced :D

      Questions?

I will not answer questions in-thread.

If you have a question, PM me. I will only answer questions about your own role or a flipped role.

I have a few mafia theme ideas floating around, figured I'd let the players choose this time (I think this used to be more common on DART but sadly the tradition has been lost).

When you sign up, just choose whichever game you're most interested in playing. Plurality vote.

      1. OG Dart Players Mafia

Game themed around old mafia players who used to play here but have since retired or quit. Probably the most traditional one out of the bunch, just a normal thematic game with a few twists.

      2. Somewhat Bastard Mafia

For those who don't know, a bastard game is pretty much any game that messes with the players for fun (e.g. ridiculous voting mechanics).

When it's done right, a bastard game is fun for everyone. When it's done wrong, the players blacklist the mod afterwards. I'll try to make my game the former option :D

      3. UPick Mafia

This type of mafia is really fun and I've seen it on some other sites. Basically, each player, before the game starts, sends in their "pick" to the moderator - this pick can be anything (e.g. "Don Corleone", "the concept of being wrong", "335"). I then create a custom role from these picks.

      Scum Wins!

To speak frankly, WOW! I did not see that one coming. I thought that I had screwed the mafia over in the first DP when Best.Korea Basically solved the game. Unfortunate for the town, Korea started overthinking themselves too much.

Korea realized that if the mafia hadn’t been given fake claims that were among the main 6 characters, you could narrow it down to 3 possibilities. I was freaking out, because one of those three was easily confirmable, and I was sure that I had screwed up bad.

I wasn’t planning on giving the mafia fake char-claims, but seeing the dire straights I was in, I thought it only fair. I figured that they would still have to come up with the fitting roles. I had wanted to put either, Impa, Purah, or Robbie in the game, but couldn’t think up good roles, so I gave scum the opportunity to claim those ones. Also, I thought it was probable that they would have already thought to do that, seeing as they knew some roles already, and these three were the only ones left to claim based on what scum knew by then.

It was some really impressive playing on the part of scum, and this one is definitely going down in the history books. Anyways, I’ll just give you all the play by play with some added comments real quick.

      Town:

      * Joebob- You are Link, Knight protector of Zelda, and the one with the Master sword. You serve your kingdom with unmatched loyalty. When you are almost defeated you are sealed away to heal for 100 years and you come back to face Ganon. You are a Soldier, and are immune to one Mafia kill. You win with the town.
      * Barney - You are Zelda, Princess of Hyrule, and the one vested with the power of the goddess Hylia, if only you could unlock your sacred sealing power. So you are a 1x Mafia roleblocker, sort of. Once per game, you can visit two players, and if one of them is mafia, their action is roleblocked. If both are mafia, the. The lethal action is blocked. If none are mafia, nothing gets blocked, but you are not told if your action was successful or not. You win with the town.
      * Whiteflame - You are Daruk, Champion of the Gorons. You have the ability to protect yourself and others with a phantom shield. So you are a 100% succes bodyguard, sort of. You can choose to use your ability any NP, and if you do, the mafias kill is redirected on to you. You win with the town
      * Best.Korea - You are Mipha, Champion of the Zora. You are gifted with ability to heal any wounds. Thus you are the 2x doctor. Two nights per game you choose one person, and they are immune to any Mafia lethal actions that night. You win with the town.
      * Casey_Risk - You are Urbosa, Champion of the Gerudo, and a great fighter. You can also be a bit of a loose canon, and so you are a granny. If anyone visits you throughout the night, they automatically are killed. You win with the town. Tip: I recommend claiming early unless you want to cause total havoc
      * Earth - You are Revali, champion of the Rito. Rito are a race of birdlike people who can fly. You also have a keen sense of sight, so you are a 2x Cop. Two nights per game you visit one player and I will tell you if they are guilty or not. You win with the town.
      * Lunatic - You are King Roham, ruler of Hyrule. That’s pretty self explanatory I think. You are obviously the King, so once per game, you can throw caution to the wind and disregard all VTL’s to Lynch one person of your choosing. You win with the town.

      Mafia

      * Austin - You are Ganon, the reincarnation of Ganondorf, and master of the dark arts. You appear at a random time throughout the game, and catch everyone by surprise. Thus you are a 1x Total Role Blocker. On one night per game, you choose to activate your role, and then everyone in the game gets roleblocked. You win with the Mafia, and your fellow mafia man is Savant who’s character is Master Koga (It was so funny watching you guys try to figure out why so many people got roleblocked! You were like chickens with their heads cut off)
      * Savant - You are Master Koga, the Leader of the Yiga Clan, and master of disguise. You can change your appearance at will, and use this power to impersonate people. Thus, you are the Stalker. Each night you visit one person and you will find their role and character by impersonating someone close to them. You may also use this power twice at the beginning of the game, as to inform your kills and claims. You win with the Mafia, and your fellow mafia man is Austin whose Character is Ganon. (I really liked the eye of Sauron mechanic from the last game, so I decided to keep it, and honestly, I think it worked pretty well, and could be even better with some tweaking)

      DP 1 Actions:

Savant: Role/Char Cop on Whiteflame and Barney

      NP 1 Actions:

      Savant: Role/Char Cop on Korea

Austin: Total Roleblock and NK Earth

      Best.Korea: Protect Earth

      Earth: Cop on Joebob

      Whiteflame: Used Action

      DP 2:

      Lunatic: Used Action

      NP 2:

      Savant: Role/Char Cop Joebob

      Austin: NK Whiteflame

      Whiteflame: Used Role

Anyways, thanks for putting up with me for being a first time mod. I hope that everyone had fun, and that I wasn’t so bad that I’m banned from modding forever.

Killed NP2: Earth - You are Revali, champion of the Rito. Rito are a race of birdlike people who can fly. You also have a keen sense of sight, so you are a 2x Cop. Two nights per game you visit one player and I will tell you if they are guilty or not. You win with the town.

Lynched DP2:  Best.Korea - You are Mipha, Champion of the Zora. You are gifted with ability to heal any wounds. Thus you are the 2x doctor. Two nights per game you choose one person, and they are immune to any Mafia lethal actions that night. You win with the town.

Welcome everyone to my first Mafia game. Let's hope I don't screw it up too badly. There are NO VANILLAS, and two Mafia.

I think you guys are all pretty clear on the rules by now, so just know, if it seems like cheating, it probably is. I'm instituting a strict, "Don't be a Jerk" policy, and violators will be eternally shamed. If you need any more clarification, I'm always available for a PM. Also, tag me if you want a time check or a vote count.

      Remaining Players:
      1. Savant
      2.Austin
      3. Earth
      4. Whiteflame
      5. Lunatic
      6. Casey_Risk
      7. Barney
      8. Best.Korea
      9. Joebob

All roles are randomly assigned, so don't get mad at me if something you don't like come out, and don't base your lynches on who you think I would pick.

With 9 remaining it takes 5 votes to Lynch. Dp's are 72 hours, and NP's are 24, unless you guys get done faster. This one ends at 8:00 June 3 PDT. I know the world runs on EDT, but I'm the mod, so I'm making you all have a headache trying to figure out what time It is, not me.

      let the games begin!

Gimli: Faithless is he who turns back when the road darkens

Elrond: Maybe, but let him not vow to walk in the dark, who has not seen the nightfall. For nothing is evil in the beginning.

I received an invitation for the annual Mafia Championship tournament. Apologies for not getting this out sooner, but it looks like we'll have to select someone by April 20th, assuming there is someone that wants to participate. If you're interested, information about the tournament can be found in the link below.

      MAFIA WINS!

Vader - You are Anatoly Karpov! You are a former World Champion, and an incredibly strong one at that. You are known for your unique style called “prophylaxis”, which involves predicting the other player’s plans and then preventing them. In addition, you are still widely admired in the chess world despite being a Putin bootlicker. Thus, you are the Godfather Predictive Role Thief. If you are investigated by a cop, you will be investigated as innocent. Each night, you may choose two players. If either of these players are lynched the next day, then you will steal the remaining player’s role for the night, allowing you to use it and blocking them from using it. You win with the mafia.

Lunatic - You are Magnus Carlsen! You are widely considered to be one of the greatest world champions of all time. You have a powerful, universal style as well as incredible memory and calculation skills. In addition, you are especially strong in the endgame (the last phase of a chess game). Thus, you are the Progressive Super-JOAT. You can use as many abilities each night as the current night number: N1 = 1 ability, N2 = 2 abilities, N3 = 3 abilities, N4 and above = 4 abilities.
You can use the same ability on multiple nights, but you cannot choose two abilities from the same list on the same night.

List 1: Lawyer (innocent when guilty), Framer (guilty when innocent), Tailor (flip inv results)
List 2: Scout (track who a player visits), Lookout (watch who visited a player), Voyeur (see what actions were performed on a player)
List 3: Strongman (kill cannot be stopped by protective roles), Ninja (kill can’t be seen by watchers/trackers), Strengthened (kill cannot be roleblocked)
List 4: Redirector (redirect Player A’s action to Player B), Bus Driver (redirect actions performed on Player A to Player B, and vice versa), Deflector (redirect actions performed on Player A to player B)

      You win with the mafia.

Pie - You are lichess.org! You are a free online chess server run by a self-described communist programmer. Everybody loves you. Due to your nonprofit nature, you rely entirely on donations for funding. Thus, you are the Donation-Dependent Innocent Child. Each DAY, you may select a player to solicit for donations. You must PM a choice to me before the flip (you can change your choice as many times as you want before then). As a day action, this will not interact with any night actions performed by other players. The following night, that player will receive the following PM:

“A player has asked you for a small donation. If you choose to donate, you will forfeit any night actions as if roleblocked. Do you choose to donate?”

You will be informed on whether you successfully received a donation. Once you receive two donations, you will be revealed as the Innocent Child.

      You win with the town.

Joebob- You are algebraic notation! You’re a type of encoding system used to record the moves of chess games so that they can be reviewed, watched, and shared even after the game ends. This recording system involves tracking a piece to a square it moves to using an intricate coordinate grid. Thus, you are the Flipped Tracker. Each night, you can track a player, which will record which players they visited, if any. If/when you die, this notation sheet will be revealed with your flip. You win with the town.

Barney - You are the pin! You are a type of tactic – a pattern involving a certain configuration of pieces. It occurs when a less valuable piece cannot easily move due to that exposing a more valuable piece to attack. Thus, you are the Conditional Roleblocker. Each night, you may choose a “minor player” and a “major player”. If the minor player does not move, nothing will happen. If the minor player moves, then you will follow the minor player (finding out who received a visit from them that night), and roleblock the major player (preventing them from carrying out any night actions). You win with the town.

Whiteflame - You are the draw offer! The draw offer is a unique aspect of chess. A player can offer a draw to their opponent in any position, which can either be accepted or declined. A draw offer is often used to gain a tactical advantage. Thus, you are the Offering Gladiator. Once per game, you can “offer a draw” to another player during a day phase (this is done by saying [I offer a draw to (player)] and tagging me). I will then post the following message:

“whiteflame has offered a draw to [Player]! [Player] can choose to either accept or decline the draw offer. If [Player] accepts, then [Player] will forfeit his night action as if roleblocked, while whiteflame will be protected for the night. If [Player] declines, then votes will be reset and only whiteflame and [Player] will be votable for the rest of the day phase.”

      You win with the town.

Earth - You are Stockfish! You are the strongest chess engine in the world – a type of program that analyzes a chess position and then calculates the best continuation. While most players use you for learning and studying, some players use you to cheat. At the end of the day, you’re a tool that can be used for good or for evil. Thus, you are the Controllable Cop. Each DAY, you may select a player to use you. You must PM a choice to me before the flip (you can change your choice as many times as you want before then). As a day action, this will not interact with any night actions performed by other players.

During the night, this player will receive the following message:

“You have been given the opportunity to use a chess engine to find the best move. You may input the name of a player and receive their alignment. If you choose to use it, then you will forfeit any night actions as if roleblocked. Do you accept?”

You will not be informed on whether an investigation was carried out, or the result/target of the investigation.

      You win with the town.

Moozer - You are castling! This is a special move that allows two pieces – the king and a rook - to move in a single turn. This typically helps protect the king and activate the rook. It can only be done twice per game (once by each player). Thus, you are the two-shot Doctor-Strengthener. Two nights per game, you may select one player as a “king” and another player as a “rook.” The “king” will be protected from any lethal night actions, while the “rook” will have any active actions be unable to be tampered with. You win with the town.

Savant - You are the Pawn! The pawn is the least powerful piece in chess, capable only of moving one square at a time. Beginners tend not to value pawns very much, which is a shame. Pawns have a special ability to promote to a queen (the strongest piece) when they reach the final row of the board. Thus, you are the Miller Soldier. If you are investigated by a cop, you will be investigated as guilty. If at any point you are the last surviving town member, then town will automatically win the game. You win with the town.

Post theme ideas for others to use here, or ideas you want to see someone make! Heck, you could post a new idea every time you take one from here!

      I'll start with 5 ideas.

Hygiene Mafia (a reminder to your average internet poster to take a shower- on the daily)
Super Mario Mafia (based on enemies/characters from the Super Mario series)
Transformers Mafia (using G1 will be easiest)
The GOATs Mafia (game using once-in-a-generation elite-level athletes from a variety of sports leagues)
Italian Foods Mafia (bonus points if you make the Americanized foods scum)

I also have a bonus idea which I may or may not have taken from Discord.

Mafiaverse of Madness (based off the latest Marvel Movie, maybe even all of Stage 4 of the MCU)

      Go!!!

      FLIPS:

Lynched DP1: Joebob, Algebraic Notation, Flipped Tracker

Killed NP1: Savant, Pawn, Miller Soldier

Lynched DP2: Barney, Pin, Conditional Roleblocker

Killed NP2: whiteflame, Draw Offer, Offering Gladiator

      Lynched DP3:

      Killed NP3:

Earth - You are Stockfish! You are the strongest chess engine in the world – a type of program that analyzes a chess position and then calculates the best continuation. While most players use you for learning and studying, some players use you to cheat. At the end of the day, you’re a tool that can be used for good or for evil. Thus, you are the Controllable Cop. FLIPS:

Lynched DP1: Joebob - Algebraic Notation, Flipped Tracker

Killed NP1: Savant - Pawn, Miller Soldier

      Lynched DP2:

Barney - You are the pin! You are a type of tactic – a pattern involving a certain configuration of pieces. It occurs when a less valuable piece cannot easily move due to that exposing a more valuable piece to attack. Thus, you are the Conditional Roleblocker. Each night, you may choose a “minor player” and a “major player”. If the minor player does not move, nothing will happen. If the minor player moves, then you will follow the minor player (finding out who received a visit from them that night), and roleblock the major player (preventing them from carrying out any night actions). You win with the town.

      Killed NP2:

      FLIPS:

      Lynched DP1:

Joebob- You are algebraic notation! You’re a type of encoding system used to record the moves of chess games so that they can be reviewed, watched, and shared even after the game ends. This recording system involves tracking a piece to a square it moves to using an intricate coordinate grid. Thus, you are the Flipped Tracker. Each night, you can track a player, which will record which players they visited, if any. If/when you die, this notation sheet will be revealed with your flip. You win with the town.

      Joebob's Notation Sheet:

      None recorded.

      Killed NP1:

Savant - You are the Pawn! The pawn is the least powerful piece in chess, capable only of moving one square at a time. Beginners tend not to value pawns very much, which is a shame. Welcome to chess mafia! Chess is love, chess is life. Have fun!

      Rules:

      1. Don't copy-paste your role PM or pretend to do so.
      2. Do not edit or delete posts.
      3. Do not communicate outside of the thread or approved chats (cryptography counts).
      4. Respect the site rules. Some banter is fine, but don't derail things with personal attacks.
      5. Follow the spirit of the rules and the game.

Also, a modkill on town will end the DP immediately. Don't try it.

      Setup Info:

      1. The setup is role madness - there are no vanillas.
      2. Many of the roles have been custom-made by mishmashing various other roles and mechanics.

      5. Majority voting is in effect.

The debate season is winding down, and so is school... so I figured I'd host a fun mafia game.

Standard rules, there will be a themesplit, and it will be role madness. I have a few creative mechanics I've been wanting to use for a while. Hoping for 9 players.
