WHO WON? YOU DECIDED:

IT'S A MAFIA VICTORY!

Mafia: Lunatic, whiteflame
Third Party: Redeemed/iamanabanana

This game was so boring... until the inactive players got replaced, that is. After that, it quickly became wildly interesting. Tbh, I was a bit worried that the game may have been too townsided at the start. The town had a decent amount of investigative power between Austin's Lie Detector and Wylted's Dreamer, plus there was the Informed Earth, and Savant's Jailkeeper had the potential to cause the mafia team some real trouble as well. The Bookie and PGO did add some swinginess to the game, but I still felt like it was more likely to swing against scum than town.

WF and Luna ended up getting super lucky, though. Earth was a good DP1 mislynch for the mafia  and Savant jailing Austin was a game-changing move. Lunatic claiming Justice ended up being probably the most fortuitous fakeclaim I've ever seen. So many players thought that Luna was basically town-confirmed after Banana outed herself as third party, and I don't think I saw anyone consider that WF and Luna might have been on a team together.

With all that being said, the mafia's victory can in no way be attributed merely to luck. The scum team made excellent use of their night actions. Silencing Wylted twice in a row ended up being a fantastic strategy, as it prevented anyone from realizing that he was actually a Dreamer, which probably helped Austin become the final mislynch. Killing Pie first was also a bold tactic that paid off incredibly well.

I think this game, as well as the last one I modded, provides a couple lessons for the town. First, make sure you read your role PMs carefully. Earth, if you had stated that your justification involved the "standing on the shoulders of giants" line, and you had correctly stated that you'd receive the information on DP2, not DP3, it might have saved you. It also might not have, but who knows? It could have prevented a mislynch.

Second, don't be hasty to vote at MYLO/LYLO. Banana, I know you're still relatively new to this game, so I really can't judge you too harshly. I made more or less the same mistake in my first game on here. But what Luna said is true: the mafia can easily quickhammer at MYLO/LYLO if town votes for town. Granted, he was scum, but it's also genuinely good advice. Also, in the off-chance that you ever get Prophet again, wait until the flip at the end of DP1 before making your prediction. :)

Really, though, I feel like Wylted is probably the one who deserves more criticism for his vote at MYLO, but I know he'll probably just say that Austin was "obviously scummy" and not learn anything from it, so I won't bother.

Savant, you had a good read on Luna at the beginning, but didn't commit to it. I totally understand that, I never know how to tell when I'm onto something vs just tunneling on somebody. But Austin was right: you should use your Jailkeeper ability on strong scumreads or strong townreads, rarely the folks in between. If you had used your ability on Luna instead, the game would have gone in a very different direction, and the town would have had a MUCH better chance of winning.

In the end, I hope you all had fun as much fun playing this game as I had modding it. Again, well done to the scum team, you two did excellent!

Mafia:
  • Lunatic - You are Darth Vader vs Hitler! "I AM ADOLF HITLER! Commander of the Third Reich. Little known fact: also dope on the mic." One of the very first ERB battles, and one of the most iconic, this rap battle pits two genocidal villains against each other in a fight of evil vs evil. Hitler delivers some cocky lines, but at the end, Vader freezes him in carbonite and taunts his frozen body with the line, “Call my homeboy in Israel, see who got the last laugh.” You win with the Mafia and have the following two villainous abilities:
    • 1x Executioner - one day per game, you may immediately execute any player who is already at 50% or more of the votes necessary to reach a majority. Doing so will immediately end the DP. The fact that you are the executioner will be hidden from the town. This ability may not be used at MYLO/LYLO.
    • 1x Role Cop - one night per game, you may target any player to learn their full Role PM.
  • whiteflame - you are Barack Obama vs Mitt Romney! "I'm not gonna let this battle be dictated by facts. I'm rich! I've got fat stacks and super PACs. We all know what went down in that 2008 election. You're a decent politician with a winning complexion!" This showdown of the senators is a classic, and still the most-viewed ERB battle to this day. Both politicians start off strong, but eventually devolve into lame name-calling, causing none other than Abraham Lincoln to appear and shut them up, bitch-slapping them both for the people, EAGLE! You are the 2x Silencer. Two nights per game, you may target any player to silence them, preventing them from talking at all the next day, though they will still be able to vote three times. If successful, the fact that your target has been silenced will be publicly announced. You win with the Mafia.
Town:

  • WyIted - You are Donald Trump vs Ebenezer Scrooge! "Wake up, Scrooge! I'm about to take a Dickens of a dump on this lonely, homely little miserable grump. I'm like the star on a Christmas tree, you're like the stump. I'm not known for my heart but you're still getting Trumped"  This creative retelling of A Christmas Carol features Scrooge being woken up by none other than Donald J. Trump himself, in his pre-Republican politician days, and then confronted by three spirits, the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, the first two of which being portrayed by J. P. Morgan and Kanye West, of all people. Now, you will be visited by spirits in the night. You are the Dreamer. Once per night, I will reveal the names of three randomly-chosen players (other than yourself). At least one will be mafia-aligned. However, if you are targeted at night with any action, your sleep will be disturbed, and you will not dream. You win with the Town.
  • AustinL0926 - You are Batman vs Sherlock Holmes! "Nice hat, dork, you look like a duck. I had Alfred read your books, he told me they suck! I'll crush your British nuts until they're bangers and mash. I've seen better detective work in Tango & Cash"  Yeah, Batman’s opening line sucks, and is widely considered one of the worst in the whole series. It wouldn’t have taken much for Holmes to pull out a win after that, and he delivers with an emotionally devastating final verse. You have been granted Sherlock’s deductive abilities. You are the Odd-Night Lie Detector. On odd-numbered night phases, you may target any player to pick any statement they made during the previous day phase to see if they were lying or not. This statement may NOT be “I’m town/I win with the town” or something substantially similar. If I am unable to determine if the player was lying or not, I will say “I don’t know.” I will only tell you “Lie” if the player said something they knew to be false. You win with the Town.
  • Savant - You are Jack the Ripper vs Hannibal Lecter! "Oi mate, pass the liquor, it's Jack the Ripper, Jack the Rapper, following you way before the dawn of Twitter. I'm a human trigger warning, through the night until the morning. When the light shines upon my crimes, you find it sick, appalling."  This rap battle features the talented Dan Bull as Jack the Ripper, a great performance by Epic Lloyd as Hannibal Lecter, and a killer soundtrack. Hannibal the Cannibal plays his psychological games with Jack, but the Ripper still has one retort: Hannibal got locked up, while he was never caught. You are the Jailkeeper. Once per night, you may jail any player, protecting them from lethal night actions, but also preventing them from using any active abilities. You win with the Town.
  • Vader - You are Alexander the Great vs Ivan the Terrible! "Look alive, creme de la Kremlin's arriving. Try to serve Ivan, no survivin'. You're a land rover, I'm a land expander, here to hand you your first loss, Alexander."  This one is one of my personal all-time favorites. What starts off as a simple 1v1 turns into a 1v4 as Ivan battles several Greats from history - Alexander, Frederick, Pompey, and finally Catherine the Great, literally killing them all in ways that echo how they actually died in real life. Well, all except for Catherine, whom he tries to gift a horse, but fails to end her this way because, as she says herself, “that horse story is a pile of shit.” You must now predict who will die by public lynching. You are the Bookie. Once per night, you may guess who will be lynched on the following day. If you are correct, you will receive a 1x Vigilante shot which you may use to target and kill any player on the following night, in addition to your normal ability. You win with the Town.
  • ILikePie5 - You are Eastern Philosophers vs Western Philosophers! "I'm coming off the Acropolis to start some pandemonium. Don't bring limp raps to a pimp slap symposium." This rap battle is a team battle, Socrates, Nietzsche, and Voltaire vs Lao Tzu, Sun Tzu, and Confucius. However, Sun Tzu manages to use his tactics to turn the westerners against each other, only for his team to immediately dissolve into infighting as well. Because of the way everyone turns on each other, you are the Even-Night Paranoid Gun Owner. On even-numbered nights, anyone who targets you with any action will be passively killed by you. You win with the Town.
  • Greyparrot - You are Steve Jobs vs Bill Gates! "Let me just step right in, I got things to invent. I'm an innovator, baby, change the world. Fortune 500 ‘fore you kissed a girl. I'm a pimp, you're a nerd, I'm slick, you're cheesy, beating you is Apple II easy!" This classic battle pits the two tech titans against each other to answer the age-old question: Mac or PC? Halfway through the battle, however, Jobs disappears into the afterlife, but lives on in the form of the supercomputer HAL 9000. You are the Millionaire. If you die before the end of the game, you may leave a message for the town to see at the beginning of the next DP. You win with the Town.
  • Egos-platinum-locos/Earth - You are Albert Einstein vs Stephen Hawking! "When I apply my battle theory, minds are relatively blown, so take a seat Steve, oop, I see you brought your own!" This classic rap battle has physicist fighting physicist. Hawking threatens to drop mad apples on Einstein’s head, though Einstein retorts that he’s the genius Hawking would be standing on – if he could stand. You, however, will be standing on my shoulders, as you are the Informed Townie. You will receive important information about this game not privy to the other members of the town at the beginning of DP2. You win with the Town.
Third Party:

  • Redeemed/iamanabanana - You are Gandalf vs Dumbledore! "You shall not pass! I rap fast like Shadowfax. Tom Riddle me this you bitch, how’s your little wand going to beat my staff?" This early battle, like many in season 1, is imperfect, but does show the potential they would fully live up to in later installments. Gandalf taunts his opponent on the basis of his sexuality, but Dumbledore brushes it aside and fights back: “The prophecy forgot to mention this day when I knocked your ass back to Gandalf the Grey!” Now, you will write your own prophecy. You are the Third Party Prophet. During NP1, you must predict on what phase the game will end. (DP4, NP3, etc.) You win if your prediction comes true. You lose if it fails to come true, or if you are lynched during DP1 before you can make your prediction. You win jointly with the Town or the Mafia. You are given a fake claim: Gandhi vs Martin Luther King Jr, Ascetic (on the basis of Gandhi denying himself through his hunger strikes).

Oh yeah, the theme split was battles that got sequels vs other battles. Hitler vs Vader got two direct sequels, while Obama vs Romney started the tradition of having a political battle every US Presidential election year.

Oh, and the other thing I forgot: Banana guessed that the game would end on NP4. If WF had been the DP3 lynch instead, there's a fair chance she would have ended up being correct.

That was a lot of fun. Made more bold moves this game as scum than I usually do and thankfully all of them paid off. A combination of luck, crazy tactics and Luna being a great scum partner made it possible. Well played Luna! As for town, definitely some unforced errors, but there was some really good play as well. If Austin’s role had worked DP1, pretty sure we would have been boned early. Definitely learning more and more about Savant’s tells each game, think we have to really work on our perception of him.

We were banking on this. Whiteflame figured out you were likely the dreamer based on your comment that it was your "Favorite role" in dp1 and it just made a ton of sense with scrooge, so since we had two questions about what roles might exist, whiteflame asked about dreamer and justice, we were told a dreamer existed in the game. Since I was planning on claiming justice early, we decided we would have to silence you to prevent you from getting dreamer results, and to prevent another investigative role from being outted which would put suspicion on my claim. We had also rolecopped austin np1 and figured out he was the even night lie detector, so we knew you would probably vote for him as soon as he claimed, which is why we silenced you again.

Luck point 1: Austin getting roleblocked when he investigated whiteflame
Luck point 2: Pie being an Even night PGO. We gambled hard on killing him thinking he was obviously lying about being a PGO. We thought he had some super powerful town role and was covering it up with the PGO claim, it seemed like something pie would do. We were hella surprised he was actually an even night PGO.
Luck point 3: Banana being third party. WTF?! I was planning on claiming justice from the get go, and hoping to get at least one mislynch, and hopefully being able to pull off an execute before town called my bs and lynched me. When banana claimed third party and every one was letting her off the hook at first I thought the plan was screwed, but since everyone thought I was town confirmed after that, it actually worked in my favor.

That said, the game wasn't entirely luck, we had pretty much solved everyone's character and role through theme research based on hints in dp1 and everyones soft claims. We correctly predicted wylteds role, had rolecopped austin, we guessed that savant was the jailkeeper ages before he claimed it, I had accurately picked his character claim and had vader's character narrowed down to two characters, and he was one of the two. We knew every town power role but vaders by page one of dp2. Whiteflame was very fun to play with and was totally okay with the big balls plays, which most mafia members would probably not want to attempt.

There was some funny qoutes this game.

"FYI I strongly lean towards Whiteflame having been framed. He's smart enough as scum to not use an executioner ability right after voting, that's just atrocious play when it'd be much easier to lurk until someone else was posting in thread and then message Casey or smth." - Austin

"I am definitely not ballsy enough to claim something like this as scum. "- Lunatic

I love wifom.

I knew Lunatic was scum the second DP2 started and I was dead. Him and Wylted are the only ones ballsy enough to kill a claimed PGO.

ggs. Excellent mechanical play by scum although I still think Luna should have waited before using his exe ability lol (but again, you can't argue with success). I do think scum deserved to be shot for killing a claimed PGO though... smh.... smh...

Unfortunately there was a lot of town-on-town violence here - please remember to always be willing to reevaluate, don't rush, and that just because someone is acting weirdly or anti-town doesn't mean they're scum.

Balance was good. The base roles are slightly townsided, but the 3P brings it very close to parity.

Thanks Casey for modding, thanks all for the game.

Anti-town behavior comes from town the vast majority of the time (if I had to give a number, probably well over 80%). If you can correctly identify it as such, it's possible to save a lot of bad gamestates.

If you don't believe me, try pulling up an example of the last time someone acting blatantly anti-town flipped scum.

After he asked a question that town had zero reason to ask, and after he claimed a scummy DP3 role when in fact he was DP2. He threw lol.

Well he needs to play to his win con and stop asking questions that go against his win con. Oh and also read and claim properly

I think over all my town games here, I've never once pushed someone for anti-town behavior. It's really not that difficult. I'm not saying it's unreasonable to push people for it, but statistically, it doesn't really bear out.

Anti-town behavior is in the eye of the beholder though tbh. It's like I was telling whiteflame. You remember khaosmage? He was considerex to play in a very anti-town way a lot back on DDO, but he always had wild theories and stuff. Eventually people learned thats just how he plays and played around it.
