No society is pure capitalism or pure socialism none not even North Korea some where in that sad land some one is selling something on the black market at risk to life and limb , even in Hong Kong the state provides pensions and has a role in the health care system
All societies are a combination of state and private . In the 60s France had a state sector bigger than present day china has and did very very well over a thirty year period with that model https://eserve.org.uk/tmc/contem/trente1.htm Nordics are market based but they do have many Socialistic aspects http://mattbruenig.com/2017/07/28/nordic-socialism-is-realer-than-you-think/

Science has studied the gun issue and finds regulation helps reduce violence, I accept this because I understand how the Scientific method works, it is objective and careful , if it make s a mistake it tests again and again, and Scientist strike me as much more objective about the subject than a bunch of uneducated yahoos and gun manufactures who are basically no different than drug dealers https://www.businessinsider.com/science-of-gun-control-what-works-2018-2

History has valuable lessons to teach policy makers but it reveals its lessons only grudgingly.
Close analyses of the facts and their relevance is required lest policy makers fall victim to the persuasive power of false analogies and are misled into imprudent judgments. Just such a danger is posed by those who casually invoke the ''lessons of Prohibition'' to argue for the legalization of drugs.
What everyone ''knows'' about Prohibition is that it was a failure. It did not eliminate drinking; it did create a black market. That in turn spawned criminal syndicates and random violence. Corruption and widespread disrespect for law were incubated and, most tellingly, Prohibition was repealed only 14 years after it was enshrined in the Constitution. The lesson drawn by commentators is that it is fruitless to allow moralists to use criminal law to control intoxicating substances. Many now say it is equally unwise to rely on the law to solve the nation's drug problem.
But the conventional view of Prohibition is not supported by the facts.
Second, alcohol consumption declined dramatically during Prohibition. Cirrhosis death rates for men were 29.5 per 100,000 in 1911 and 10.7 in 1929. Admissions to state mental hospitals for alcoholic psychosis declined from 10.1 per 100,000 in 1919 to 4.7 in 1928.
Arrests for public drunkennness and disorderly conduct declined 50 percent between 1916 and 1922. For the population as a whole, the best estimates are that consumption of alcohol declined by 30 percent to 50 percent.https://www.nytimes.com/1989/10/16/opinion/actually-prohibition-was-a-success.html

https://www.wearethemighty.com/articles/this-is-how-the-us-military-would-put-down-an-armed-rebellionPrecedents for fighting an insurrection
Benson and Weber cite Abraham Lincoln's executive actions during the Civil War and Dwight Eisenhower's 1957 intervention in Little Rock, Arkansas as precedents for the executive use of force in crushing a rebellion. The President would be able to mobilize the military and Department of Homeland Security to recapture a secessionist city and restore the elected government.
The government would invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807 to form a response.
The government would invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807 to form a response.
The Insurrection Act governs the roles of the military, local law enforcement, and civilian leadership inside the U.S. as this type of scenario playsFrom Title 10 US Code the President may use the militia or Armed Forces to:§ 331 – Suppress an insurrection against a State government at the request of the Legislature or, if not in session, the Governor.
§ 332 – Suppress unlawful obstruction or rebellion against the U.S.
§ 333 – Suppress insurrection or domestic violence if it (1) hinders the execution of the laws to the extent that a part or class of citizens are deprived of Constitutional rights and the State is unable or refuses to protect those rights or (2) obstructs the execution of any Federal law or impedes the course of justice under Federal laws.)

Studies show that people that life in welfare states like Denmark or Germany are happier and live bette lives and many people equate welfare spending with socialism though most welfare states were designed by liberals and implemented by conservatives to blunt the appeal of socialist ideology, but the welfare state version of capitalism works

Look maybe I shouldn't call myself a Socialist, i DID THAT at first because every time i suggested some moderately progressive policy, i got accused of being a Socialist or a communist. When I said okay but look at the Nordic nations , they have the policies I endorse and they thrive. I got reminded they weren't Socialist at all they were very market friendly in many ways more than we are . So I said okay lets go with those policies. I got reminded that those policies were "socialistic' . Do you see the mind f*(k going on here? I mean come on! What a stupid game, and I feel for it!@!!
So okay maybe we cant be Western Europe either, but could we at least try for Canada? I think thats doable .
