I'm a veteran, and I don't support tyranny.
Any current or former member of the armed forces who engaged armed combat does or has done so by instruction of the State. And given the United States imperial ambitions over the last century (though its just carrying out its directive as the globe's predominant military) I'd say chances are, you participated in a tyrannical military campaign.
Both my eldest and my younger--not my youngest--brothers are veterans, too. And I expressed to them the very same thing (not to mention, I had no appreciation for the investigations into my family conducted by the Department of Defense.)

First, I was not a corporal in the US Army. I was a Specialist in a position that put my rank (and position) above yours, Military Police Investigator under C.I.D.
An army specialist is a junior enlisted rank in the U.S. Army and is equivalent in pay to a corporal. The rank of specialist is an E-4 position that typically involves basic management duties as well as commanding lower-ranked soldiers.

People serving in the military swear an oath to the constitution, not a military or political leader. They are taught to not follow unlawful orders given by any superior. They are taught to refuse unlawful orders and then let the UCMJ sort out who was right in court.
If the US military was going to start killing citizens because the government ordered them and it was a lawful order, it wouldn’t matter how many AR-15s they had. They would lose badly and they would lose very quickly

Can you name any mass shootings where the weapons used were not obtained legally?
The Uvalde and Buffalo shootings? No
The Sandy Hook shooting? No, the 20 year old used his mother’s AR-15, killed her first, then went to the school and killed 20 children and 6 teachers.
The huge shooting in Las Vegas? No. 60 killed, 413 wounded.
You see, the problem here is the people who commit mass shootings aren’t typically criminals (or recognized as crazy) until AFTER they kill a bunch of people. So saying that criminals will always find a way to get guns ignores the fact that for mass shootings the people using the guns only became criminals after they committed the mass shooting.

It's called commonsense. One simply cannot gather the town's citizens and ask them to join the militia if they have no weapons to fight with.
What you consider common sense is irrelevant. That’s not how we interpret the constitution.
There is much talk in the federalist papers about the militia’s, how they would be organized, what their responsibilities would be, how they would size up against a tyrannical federal government, etc. I can find nothing in it suggestive of the idea that the militia’s they talk so much about were to be made up of every Tom Dick and Harry who decided to pull a gun out of their shed at any point. That’s why I ask. As far as I can tell this idea is purely made up.
