How is your character scummy? Scummy as in like they are a scum in the literal sense, or scummy as in mafia version of the word

Generally speaking, people tend not to roleplay in these games. On occasion, someone will do so in order to suggest what their character is or just for fun. It's never played all that big of a role in these games from my experience.

It's relevant to the theme of the game. Everyone in this game should be an Indian politician. There will be at least two people with politicians that are somehow outliers, which will result in a theme split between them and players who are a part of town this game. As Pie said in the OP, though, those two will also be able to ask him about the existence of certain other politicians and roles in the game, so we should expect that they will fashion some fake claims so as not to stand out. Part of our goal will be to suss out the fake claims from the real ones.

Alright, so here's an idea to get things moving: how about we all say what party our characters belong to? I feel like that might be a decent way to start. I'll go first. My politician is a member of BJP.

Going to have to push back on this a bit. Some parties are bound to be smaller and sport only one or two central politicians. From what I've seen, that's less of an issue for BJP than most, since its presence in the government is significantly outsized compared with the rest, and it might not be a problem for INC either, but at least in my case, claiming my party will likely give away my character.

Well, fair enough. In that case, how about we all say whether our characters are a member of BJP, INC, or neither, and whether they are a member of the Lok Sabha, Rayja Sabha, or neither. I am a member of the Lok Sabha, technically speaking (I think).

I think I can work with that, even if the result may not be what you were hoping to see.

BJP/INC/neither? : Neither

Lok Sabha/Rayja Sabha/neither? : Neither

Alright, I figured that at least one or two characters would be something like a cabinet member (or whatever the equivalent is in India, I have no idea).

Banana, how about you?

Since this is getting little notice apparently, and since you’ve been absent since your first post, I’ll ask you to respond to this request for soft claims next.

I feel like I’ve mentioned this to you before but I find it interesting that your default move is to force character information out rather than behavioral information when you think the game is stalled. I don’t think this is the answer and gives mafia more information to sus out power roles for essentially no reason. In your case I’ve seen you do this move as town so I’d say it’s a null move just something I inherently disagree with.

Banana seems towny enough for a newbie, feels casual in thread and genuinely interested in how the game works. I also kinda think that the questions he's asking make sense, and that if he was scum then he would be more likely to ask them to his scumbuddy to try and avoid rocking the boat.

Owen feels a bit pre-defensive about his character. Gives me some slightly off vibes, I think he's experienced enough to know that scummy characters don't translate at all to alignment.

I don't like how Earth said we shouldn't pressure new players, I don't recall him doing that at all back when Pie was playing with us and would pretty much always start each game by pressuring the newbies for their experience. Feels like he might be buddying banana.

Casey, Luna, slight townlean for the way they're moving things forward. Same with whiteflame, I like how he's paying attention to activity when it'd be easier to line me up for a mislynch later on by just not pinging me at all.

Vader is null, same with Moozer.

Actually Luna can be town. He could have easily used the way whiteflame was pushing for char info as a reason to sus him, but instead nulled it and cut off a potential  avenue to make it look like he was scumhunting. It's possible they're both scum, but I'll lean towards Luna just being town.

Each of you is a current living Indian Politician.
Didn’t see this at first. That helps me a lot because I was researching people from the last century, so now I feel stupid. BTW, I don’t know  anything about the topic currently, but I am doing as much outside research as I can.

Alright, so here's an idea to get things moving: how about we all say what party our characters belong to? I feel like that might be a decent way to start. I'll go first. My politician is a member of BJP.
I like that. I’m also BJP, and I’m in the Rayja Shaba.

My character is scummy in the way that they're described as a horrible person. If I'm correct the mafia are generally the bad guys in context of the theme.

I was just thinking that if I gave my claim, it would totally make me look mafia so I thought I would preadress that.

Generally speaking, I feel like you can't get much out of a new player that you could from someone more experienced.

Also I have no idea what the Lok/Rayja Sabha is and find no mention of it on my character's wiki.

From what I've seen of Pie's politics-based games in the past, he's pretty clear about how he feels about each person he includes, but that doesn't necessarily correlate with whether they're mafia or town. For this game, don't worry about having a 'bad' character.

I understand your perspective on the matter, though I'll note that, especially in a game where scum can ask questions of Pie about the existence of certain characters and roles in the game, there's value in at least forcing them to ask early, since doing so later nets them more opportunities to know about existing claims. Soft claims at least require them to put themselves into a given camp, which limits their choices later on. I also think that asking about character information can reveal some behavioral info, but that's mainly a question of emphasis.

We are talking about politicians here. Honestly, I don't think any of our character claims are squeaky clean. More importantly, I don't think Pie would use a theme split that simple for this game, at least not based on my own character.

In any case, the goal right now is not to get your character claim, but I understand your concern.

My person is apparently apart of the BJP. And the Lok Sahba election was also mentioned in my message from the moderator, but idk what any of that means

The Lok Sabha is the lower house of the Indian Parliament, while the Rajya Sabha is the upper house. It's like how the US Congress is split into the Senate and the House of Representatives, with the House being the lower body.
