That is not a way for the world to make progress
You live in Massachusetts. Lets say you meet Daniel Tilt, who also lives in Massachusetts. You hate Donald Trump; Daniel Tilt Loves Donald Trump. You argue for dozens of hours, you spend so much energy that can be dedicated to other things; but at the end of all of it, you convince Daniel Tilt to become left wing enough to vote against Trump.
Did you really change anything? No. Massachusetts is going to vote for Biden whether or not you actually put in the effort to try and change Daniel Tilt's mind.
It's why honestly, I probably won't respond to your gun control posts; it's not that you are inheritely that rude to me, but politics is tiring and I would rather be doing other things with my energy and it gets too tiring. In the rare case that I convince you of my gun control position (or vice versa), it won't change much; roughly the same proportion of the US population will still want AR 15s banned.
There almost certainly will never be a Trump supporter you meet on this website that is genuinely willing to have their mind changed on Trump because of you. This isn't that you are bad at arguing; but to them; Trump is a god that will always be right. When I entered this website, I was under the illusion that I was willing to have my mind changed. I assumed everyone thought very similar to me. Then as I got older; I didn't agree with things like an AR 15 ban; but I can understand why someone would; they have in their brains very high sensitivity to pain (which televised mass shootings produce a lot of) and I just don't have this high sensitivity to pain. I won't be able to get rid of your high sensitivity to pain and you won't be able to get rid of my low sensitivity to pain, both of which are in our brains. People like you would make a very good therapist to people with mental illness (especially a trans child); I would suck at that job. Some child comes into your office and says they are trans and they need help dealing with transphobia; you would try and genuinely help them by forming social clubs; I would tell them to grow a thick skin. People like me would be willing to work long and hard hours at a company; people like you wouldn't be willing to do that. I deal with a 10 hour shift at a job; I can physically deal with that; you might be crying on the ground from all the hard work; it's internalized in me that I can deal with the pain since I know it's only temporary.
You need high sensitivity liberals and low sensitivity libertarians just like you need people inclined to math, people inclined to trades, people inclined to communicate, people inclined to teach, people inclined to be cops, firefighters, construction workers.
A generic state may have 55% of their vote going towards one party; a generic industry may have 80% of their vote going towards one party. Different jobs require different brains; and different brains produce different ideologies. We need the 1st and 2nd, therefore the 3rd must be at least tolerated in the name of diversity (which I would assume you believe is a strength).
That is not my objective. You can’t change morons. My goal is for them to understand they are morons and they can never say nobody told them they were wack jobs for believing what they believe.
If you believe that liking Trump = moron, then fine; that's what you believe. The only way they would agree with this statement is if they renounce their former support for Trump and therefore stop being morons. A Trump supporter isn't going to believe being a Trump supporter makes you a moron.
In order for them to understand being morons; they have to change being morons and not be morons anymore.
