The Solution To Poverty?
The actual question that people should be asking is whether the government has a duty to "solve" poverty. One could easily argue that the government has no obligation to the US people besides not violating their individual liberties. People will always fall into destitution regardless of government action through poor decisions, luck, or a mixture of both. The role of the government is to only promote the general welfare, not to provide every single person with help.

Also, what about population growth? Would every single person, regardless of age, be granted $1 million dollars? The World Population Clock estimates that every 8 seconds, someone is born (1). To me, this system does not seem sustainable. Moreover, the rising federal debt will only balloon further. This crowds out other public investment as interest becomes a large part of government spending (2).
I am not necessarily against an idea like this per se, but it needs to be well defined.

In an intellectual discussion or debate it would be helpful to point out the logical flaw. However, I am under no obligation to prove you wrong in the thought experiment, nor could I unless you open the box. So, no, I am under no obligation to prove your fallacious argument wrong.

Nope. What you engaged in was an ipse dixit. I suppose that responding to your argument by saying that your argument is an ipse dixit is, in itself, a form of proof. However, I am under no obligation to prove you wrong in a debate. If anything, you have not fulfilled your BOP by proving the ball's color, (assuming that is what you want to prove.)

In debate, I would imagine that any rebuttal would require a degree of evidence. So rejecting a claim in a debate should be coupled with logic or a citation. That said, if I were to make a claim that in 20 years, all of life will be obliterated by an mass uprising of minions, I ought to have evidence as well. Without a logical premise for my original claim, there is no responsibility for my opponent to refute my claim with significant evidence. One could just say that I resorted to be an "ipse dixit (1)." (In Latin, "ipse dixit" means "he himself said it.")

The BOP falls on you to prove that the ball is red. I would not trust your word unless you opened the box. This seems to be a Schrodinger's Cat situation, where the ball could be any color until you open the box. I would know about cats, per my profile pic. I do not see your point though. What exactly are you trying to prove with this thought experiment?

Fair enough. I do think that DDO was more lax regarding these rules. If people want to engage in vitriolic conversation, that would be none of my concern, inflammatory or not. Such threads could dissuade people from engaging in the forums. Although some people, (including yours truly,) avoid the forum sections anyway.

The COC indicates that slurs and invective against a class of people would constitute as hate speech. This indicates that harsh, critical language when referring to a certain group would necessitate mod action. While the word "idiot" could be a form of invective, it does not seem too harsh.

In regards to religious and trans-phobic language, there were rules against both in the DDO COC. Although, again, it was not as well enforced to our knowledge. Although, it is just as likely that mod action has been taken regarding some users that we are unaware of at this moment.

Slurs against an entire class of people (such as racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ageist, religious, political, ethnic, or national groups) are mere insults.
Mere insult of ideas is allowed--mere insult of people is not.

I am curious what type of legal restrictions against LGBT people you would advocate for, but that seems to be a discussion for another day, and with another person.

Given the COC, the lack of significant action taken after your initial comment was removed, and the fact that you are still able to post, I would say that you can probably dodge punishment and still post relatively similar comments. I do not think that people would care too much about the objections to LGBT or Muslim people insofar as the language used is docile and not overly-visceral. Perhaps some are concerned about the possibility of a Muslim of LGBT person from coming across the comment, but I do not think we need to cater to them or anyone else. Perhaps I am a misanthrope for suggesting this, but the people on this site are usually wannabe political scientists, faux intellectuals, people trying to post inflammatory content to "trigger" others in the name of anti-PC culture, and, of course, an equal amount of PC culture. So catering to/caring about anyone here seems ridiculous.

Although there is a rule against PM Doxxing, in which people are not allowed to share details of PMs unless both the sender and the receiver of said message agree to have it displayed.

Posting the contents, in part or in whole, of private messages (PMs) in a public venue without the consent of all parties to the PM is strictly prohibited.

This is actually about as lax as the "code of conduct" under the New Member Read Me thread on DDO. The following regulations are listed in the thread:

"Slurs against an entire class of people (such as racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ageist, religious, political, ethnic, or national groups) are mere insults. Disagreement over what constitutes a religion, race, sexual orientation, or ethnicity is not a legitimate excuse for mere insult. Mere insults are personal attacks. They are not tolerated."

"Fighting words" are posts intended solely to provoke or belittle. They're essentially a form of bullying. Even if you've avoided the specific use of an insult, if you post a diatribe intended solely to make someone feel bad, you're going against the goal of the site. If you're getting in the way of that goal, even if you're technically keeping your hands clean, expect to have a conversation on the subject with airmax."

This was under the Terms of Service:
"No use of profanities or swear words.
No personal attacks against other members or a member's opinions.
No use of racial, sexual or religious slurs.
No threats or implications thereof."

Much of the cited text is up to interpretation, and does not always warrant a literal reading. I could argue that targeting a group of people, (minority or not,) would constitute a slur. (Merriam-Webster defines a slur as "an insulting or disparaging remark or innuendo.") Some might consider such language to be a provocation, which might be considered "fighting words" as well. Regardless, DDO is not a free-speech haven as evident by the many threads that were taken down due to trolling or personal attacks.

This is not to say that you do or do not have legitimate concerns (I am not going down that rabbit hole), or that I find your post unacceptable, but the comparison to DDO seems faulty. I think DDO was laissez-faire in the moderation of user's content resulting in certain rules were not heavily as enforced. Although there were legitimate action taken on certain DDO users who used hate speech.

On The Topic of Ridiculous Flame Wars
I recently posted this on debate.org. I think it is necessary for you folks to read it as well. Hopefully we can simmer down. This is an amalgamation of 2 posts that I created on DDO. I think it is highly applicable to the current state of affairs on this site.

I do not understand the need for constant flame-wars in which people hurl insults at each-other to inflate their own ego. You people are on debate.org! Population: spammers, trolls, bullies, and faux intellectuals. Of course there are those you disagree with. An immediate reaction to try to emotionally hurt them through petty insult and claim yourself more smart, rational, or more mentally stable is not only contradictory, but also unhealthy. Extreme anger clots the blood, possibly leading to circulatory complications that could result in death. As a result, studies indicate that those with no past medical history related to heart disease, but were chronically angry were 19% more likely to develop heart problems than those who rarely experience anger according to an analysis of 44 studies (1). While it is also unhealthy to "bottle up" anger, it should also be noted that by showcasing aggressive behavior, it is unlikely that either of you are going to feel some sort of resolve and get over it. Art Markman, professor of psychology at the University of Texas at Austin, as cited by The Scientific American explains:
"At the end of it [the flame war] you can't possibly feel like anybody heard you. Having a strong emotional experience that doesn't resolve itself in any healthy way can't be a good thing." (2)

TL;DR
Chill out, I am worried about your circulatory systems. Ergo, think about the hearts! What did your circulatory system ever do to you? You should always treat it with the utmost respect. So, have a heart, and save your heart.

This was a PSA from the Save Hearts, Instigate Tenderly organization.

We should also include the basic rules of the site in said thread and expected punishments for violations, (i.e. temp-banning, removal of thread etc.) By making the rules clear we would likely deter people from engaging in dubious behavior. I guess a rulebook for the site and general recommendations on debateart activity would be what I am advocating for.

http://www.debate.org/forums/Debate.org/topic/13410/

I know that this thread has now devolved into insinuations, insults, and idiocy, (the three terrible i's). Getting back on task, I think that a thread similar to this that explains the jargon behind debating, voting, mafia etc. would allow new people to become better acquainted with the site and competitive debate in general. This is assuming, of course, that we do not have one right now. Please correct me if we do have one. If not, a DDO veteran who has the time would preferably be the best bet in creating this type of thread.
