Rumors from the underground suggest a new round of Covid and mandates will be in time for 2024.ย

Do you guys know anything about this claim?
I'm wondering how I'm still alive after having not been vaccinated since the COVID pandemic's inception. It's almost as if these media/corporate induced panics often lack context, logic, and scientific integrity for that matter. I'll presume the same with this new round of COVID strains.

Anti-vaccine Christian broadcaster Marcus Lamb dies at 64 after contracting Covid. I bet he wishes that he had been vaccinated.

I too am also wondering how all those vaccinated people spread the Covid around and died themselves. Wasn't it heavily marketed as being both safe and effective? To the point of censorship?

What does that have to do with my still being alive? As unfortunate as Mr. Lamb's death is, it only goes to demonstrate that there are no sufficient controls as it regards the efficacy of vaccines. I am still alive after having been exposed to this virus for almost four years. Here's to hoping that I am wished well, and not ill, in order to make a point.

Marcus Lamb probably saw you online saying people should not get vaccinated. He probably thought God spoke to you.

That's probably the most convincing and often ignored fact about these vaccines: there are those who've taken these vaccines who had spread the infection and succumbed to it. Critical thinking isn't just for academia. It can be life-saving or death-staving.

So you're suggesting that I'm indirectly responsible for Lamb's death on the off chance he read some obscure comment on a debate site, which NEVER suggested that one should not get vaccinated--only that vaccination should be left to one's discretion? Really?

He probably thought God spoke to you.
God has blessed me with my intellect and capacity for logic. He doesn't need to proof-read my statements.

Covid vaccines appear to have been efficacious in what they set out to achieve.

And not the intended doomsday drugs as predicted by the conspiracy theorists.

I would suggest that denial and conspiracy theory are coping strategies.

And in terms of probability, denial is a stillย  small risk especially for reasonably fit people.

But as Mr Lamb et al show, there is certainly still risk.

Though I firmly support personal choice.

I Hope that you continue to enjoy good health Athias.

I have been vaccinated and contracted Covid, and still enjoy good health.

So we're all good for now.

And for sure there are greater risks to health other than Covid.

Like being unreasonably unfit, or having a genetic predisposition to cancer and other serious ailments.

Or being a Russian or Ukrainian soldier.

Covid vaccine simply addressed one public health issue.

This is not a scientifically substantiated conclusion.

And not the intended doomsday drugs as predicted by the conspiracy theorists.
Tell that to the survivors of those who died as a result of it.

I would suggest that denial and conspiracy theory are coping strategies.
As is labeling contention as "conspiracy theory."

And in terms of probability, denial is a stillย  small risk especially for reasonably fit people.

But as Mr Lamb et al show, there is certainly still risk.
Risk of what? Making use of illogical conclusions premised on a misinterpretation of statistics is a luxury which ought not be employed in this context.

Though I firmly support personal choice.
As do I.

I Hope that you continue to enjoy good health Athias.
Thank you. Ditto.

Good point.

Covid vaccine simply addressed one public health issue.
The efficacy of which cannot escape the post hoc fallacy.

People called them โ€œflu fencesโ€ and โ€œchin sails.โ€ Gala attendees fastened theirs with gaudy earrings. Smokers cut flaps in them, and movie houses gave them away with tickets.

During the influenza pandemic of 1918, officials often advised Americans to wear face masks in public. Doctors believed that masks could help prevent โ€œspray infections,โ€ according to historian John M. Barry in his book, โ€œThe Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History.โ€ Enforced by local health officials, the facial coverings grew routine. Often, Red Cross chapters fashioned and distributed the masks that were โ€œseen everywhere and would become a symbol of the epidemic,โ€ Barry wrote. Americans used the masks as a method of retaining some normalcy during a pandemic that killed at least 675,000 Americans and 50 million people worldwide. It was the only aspect of the catastrophe discussed with any humor.

If directed to wear a mask, homemade worked. โ€œTake a piece of gauze the size of a sheet of typewriter paper,โ€ said instructions in the Atlanta Constitution. โ€œFold it twice, so that it will fit an envelope. Then attach strings to the four corners and tie these strings at the back of the neck. The mask covers the nose and mouth, so that the wearer breathes through four thicknesses of gauze. A clean handkerchief is just as good as the gauze.โ€

Now, amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is debating whether it should recommend that people wear masks when they go outside. In 1918, with a different virus, it didnโ€™t help.

Iowaโ€™s State Board of Health reminded those sewing masks to add some โ€œcolored worsted [a type of yarn] or tapeโ€ on the part of the mask that would be the outside. The upper margin was to be drawn tightly over the bridge of the nose, right under the eyes. Masks were to be washed after each use, not touched once they were tied on, and boiled for five minutes before wearing again.

The masks disrupted lives in unexpected ways. A San Francisco fisherman said โ€œbanditsโ€ in flu masks robbed him. A woman taking a train from Chicago to Pasadena, Calif., reportedly experienced a break from sanity when she disembarked and โ€œbeheld the masked city,โ€ according to a story in the Los Angeles Times. And columnist Fay King bemoaned the new mustaches. Men who formerly โ€œcouldnโ€™t bear to have [a] hairy lip classed with a tooth brushโ€ were growing facial hair, now hidden behind the masks.

On Nov. 1, 1918, Eugene C. Caley became the first man in Oakland, Calif., to be arrested for not wearing a mask. He was released on bail, although similar scofflaws in San Francisco had been sentenced to up to 10 days in jail. (Departments donated revenue from fines to the Red Cross.)

โ€œThis is only the beginning,โ€ said the chief of police, according to the Oakland Tribune. โ€œWe are going to enforce this mask ordinance if we have to pack the city jail with people. This epidemic is too serious to be taken as a joke, and men arrested โ€ฆ will find that itโ€™s no laughing matter when they face the police judges.โ€

Some complained that the masks were โ€œunsanitary,โ€ and bureaucratic confusion could stymie whether they were worn. In Alexandria, La., a sanitation leader for the Army ordered flu masks be worn. But waiters removed theirs because their local public health official said that the masks prevented โ€œfree breathing,โ€ according to the Town Talk.

Spain hated being linked to the deadly 1918 flu pandemic. Trumpโ€™s โ€˜Chinese virusโ€™ label echoes it.

Tobacco-chewing workers were โ€œkept busy putting the masks on and offโ€ to spit, reported the Fort Wayne Sentinel, while smokers became creative. One cigar vendor made doors in masks so that her wares could be enjoyed, reported the Oakland Tribune. One man fashioned a cigarette holder from a long rubber tube, and another simply shoved his mask up over his forehead.

โ€œI am 75 years old and have been living in this state 67 years,โ€ a man named E. Piercy told a police court, according to Los Angelesโ€™ Evening Express. โ€œI must have my smoke, and Iโ€™m not going to give up my tobacco for a cheesecloth muzzle!โ€

Touting their ability to distract an anxiety-ridden public, movie houses remained open, as long as viewers wore masks. At the Riley in Greenfield, Ind., if you had your own mask, admission was 6 and 11 cents. If you needed the theater to provide one, admission went up to 10 or 15 cents.
The Riley, its advertisement said, had been disinfected. So had the Coliseum dance hall in Rock Island, Ill. โ€œAseptic spray, etc.,โ€ said its advertisement, which reminded dancers to bring their masks. โ€œDonโ€™t forget the big Duck and Goose call this Saturday.โ€

Through the attempts to make wearing masks seem normal, positioned at stores alongside everyday things such as tobacco, mustache grooming and dancing, the grim truth persisted.

โ€œThe masks worn by millions were useless as designed and could not prevent influenza,โ€ Barry wrote. โ€œOnly preventing exposure to the virus could.โ€

Unfortunately, the point of emphasis isn't prevention, but injecting oneself with a foreign substance which can be a placebo for all one knows.

I really don't understand the hysteria here. No one on the left is pushing for mandates, and this notion some are pedaling that this is some plot to impact the election is ridiculous. People are over COVID, no one's is going to vote for Biden because their local restaurant closed.

The only explanation for why this is news is because right propaganda outlets are trying to scare the bejesus out of their viewers, regardless of whether the implications makes any sense.

Not at preventing the transmission of an airborne virus. Do you honestly believe this now, or believed that at any time? Did you honestly think you could get a flu vaccine and then stand next to an infected person (mask or no mask) without contracting the virus and carrying it around?
