Provinces were based on many factors, most of which were the same factors on which nations are based.
Many Roman provinces formed the basis for nationhood. Spain, Italy, Greece, France, Germany ( in part), Britain, Arabia, Macedonia, Egypt ( in part), and Palestine ( known sometimes as Levant) all grew from the Roman Empire. There are more also, but you might get the point here.

It is the other way around. Israel was founded on conquering and bullying out the inhabitants whether Nomadic or stationary Palestinians.
A nation founded on psychopathic conquering is the original sinner in the negotiation. Both sides need to apologise and move forward or they can be irl versions of keyboard warriors that quite blatantly know next to nothing about empathy or geopolitical resolutions to long-term conflict.

That goes for both sides and putting your guns down etc is not the right thing to do if you’re fighting evil. Appeasement doesn’t work either and often negotiating and diplomacy leads to sub-par results. I again reiterate my point, should Ukraine just put their guns down and stop fighting and give in for peace, or should they fight imperial invasion and get their land back?
