Do it after the election. If we jail the opposition front runner right before the election we are no better than putin
Indicting Trump at this time is election interference

i think the question depends on the nature of the crime. if it's not a serious crime, then postpone. if it is a serious crime, then it wouldn't be just to not take care of it now. for whatever reason, everyone disagrees whether this is a serious crime or not.

@n8nrgim
I agree. Murder, rape, assault, kidnapping.....etc. Then it can't wait
But this stuff can wait

Putin is not so bad.
Also, would this be thing where any popular person can maybe do any crime they ant and they get free pass if they announce they are running. ING for president?

@ponikshiy
Putin is a dictator

Trump made many statements in 2016 about how people who mishandled classified documents should go to prison. It seems like he would disagree with not going after him.

@Vegasgiants
Putin is a dictator
He was voted i to office . 90% of votes reported to go towards him last election. This was Democratic
-->
@ponikshiy
Now that is hilarious. He jails his opponents. You make my point
-->
@Vegasgiants
Reagan Jailed an opponent who shot him
I guess Reagan was dictator
The guy who shot JFK did not go to jail because his political opponent was dead
-->
@ponikshiy
What the what?
-->
@Vegasgiants
Trump could beat the indictment,
Is a difference between Putin and the USA.
If Trump is guilty, I'd prefer a precedent be made,
That individuals not stash boxes of classified documents in their house, and not refuse government officials who ask that the documents be accounted for.
. . .
I think 'lot of officials break law in tiny ways,
Toe the line,
Accidentally step over it,
Bureaucracy and laws often absurd over reaching, make 'everything even small nothings classified.
But it's not something I think we should encourage.
'Could have been handled quietly, but Trump made choices.

@Lemming
If he is found guilty he may not he sentenced until next summer
After he wins the nomination
That looks bad
-->
@Vegasgiants
Perhaps this is what Vice Presidents are for.
And I 'do mean perhaps,
I am uncertain on law and precedent for this kind of circumstance.
To me,
It doesn't matter if it looks bad,
It doesn't need be "Murder, rape, assault, kidnapping",
Though I suppose one 'does wonder 'where the line ought be drawn.
. .
If it involves prison time though,
To 'me, sounds that it falls over or within (However that line idea works).
-->
@Lemming
Putin conveniently finds evidence for fraud for his political opponents
-->
@Vegasgiants
We won't use a blood spattered confession, I expect,
Simply because evidence 'can be fraud,
Does not mean we should treat 'all evidence as fraud.
Trump will have a fair day in court, I expect,
Being rich, being high political person, will have good legal representation.
"Trump’s fate will be decided by 12 citizen peers, in a hallowed tradition of US democracy"
-->
@Lemming
The world will see it as jailing the opposition right before an election
-->
@Vegasgiants
'Some might,
I won't.
-->
@Lemming
Not until it's your guy
And trump is not my guy
-->
@Vegasgiants
If due to evidence, someone is believed to be guilty, justice system ought hold them accountable,
'Generally speaking.
. .
To avoid corruption,
To avoid people ignoring safety laws/guidelines,
To avoid individuals assuming 'too much power, deciding 'against the people's wishes.
I'm not arguing for false charges, or false imprisonment.
-->
@Lemming
Again.
Putin uses evidence and the justice system to jail his opponent right before an election
-->
@Vegasgiants

@Lemming
And Russia claims its political opponents get a fair day in court

@Lemming
Now any tiny break in the law will be grounds to jail the opposition

@Vegasgiants
Republicans tried to remove Bill Clinton from presidency, for staining a dress.
'Long been option,
'But people still have to vote on it.
'Needs be 'real evidence,
'Real day in court.
Is 'not kangaroo court.
. . .
We 'had Joseph McCarthy in past,
Had people blacklisted in Hollywood,
'Always been option,
Not 'good option,
'Depends on personal integrity,
'Truth.
But this not mean we 'Ignore people who break law.
Not mean we 'encourage false evidence either.
We try for truth,
Nixon break laws,
Nixon get removed.
No make claim, well what if Watergate was fake.
We just try best to be honest,
Try best to hold all accountable to law. (Generally speaking)
-->
@Lemming
Bill Clinton committed 11 felonies according to the Starr report. Never charged with them and got off with a fine and losing his law license
11 Felonies
-->
@Vegasgiants
Source?

@Lemming
-->
@Vegasgiants
Source mentions many criticisms of report.
Additionally matter was considered by government,
Matter of Trump,
Ought 'also be considered by the law.
