From what I remember of debate.org, there was an abundance of anarcho-communists, progressives and generally leftists on the site.

Today, on DART it seems like the dynamic has changed, so that mostly it's Trump supporters, anti-woke people, etc. talking about cancel culture or whatever, and then a handful of center-left liberals.

Why has the balance changed so much?

Only wish DART has more people that really understands what Socialism is. Sadly, the bias is heavy with this one.

There’s still a strong leftist presence here. Benjamin, Oromagi, FLRW, Double_R, Castin, Lady3Keys, Danielle, TheWeakerEdge, Speedrace, others, etc.

If the right holds a majority here, it isn’t a huge one. And if this is concerning to you, invite some people you think would be good for the site over. Heck, do it even if it’s not a concern.

As for me, I’m not going to use any appeal to majority arguments. They’re incorrect and easy to call out.

The only thing I could see being an issue is ratios on the site, but honestly who the heck cares about the number of likes? To me all the button does is (somewhat) prevent users from posting ‘+1’ posts.

Maybe it's just that people have gotten older and there's more of a conservative tendency in general, since a lot of who you named are pretty centrist as far as I know, but maybe so are the conservatives. Less of a tendency to out-there opinions. Just my observation. Even the alt-righters that used to spam DART are gone now.

I am left wing, I vote left wing, I breathe left wing and I know left wing for what it really is.

I support making society fairer and merciful on the struggling and do things here and elsewhere to always approach even website moderation from a left-wing perspective, let alone irl situations but I'm also a realist, if I help my neighbour or somebody in general and can get a gain out of it financially or otherwise, I'm not going to be some super humble socialist.

I also do not know how or why I need to support slaughtering fetuses as an okay thing, I see abortions up to 12-14 weeks as a necessary evil since society (in most places) isn't truly left-wing yet and some irresponsible morons will fuck unprotected even if you provide them contraceptives.

I am so left-wing that my left-wing philosophy also applies to how I want to nurture and protect the fetuses.

I know what I am, I know what I support. You see a thread here or quote there about cancel culture and think you know me. I would fucking risk my safety to assist a victim of anti-trans hate crime irl and stick up for somebody being severely bullied for something. You don't fucking know me, I know when it's time to stick up and when to keep my head down and not pick beef.

I pick the battles that matter, go ahead and say I'm not a real left-winger like you know my fucking life and values. I know what matters, I know where it genuinely counts to be left wing and screaming LGBT pride, waving a rainbow flag and celebrating the right to slaughter fetuses loud and proud is not what being left-wing is about. Being left wing is about quietly doing volunteer work here, helping your family and/or friends there, being a helpful, useful person when you can and when it truly matters. Being somebody people can rely on and who would stick up for anybody in your workplace against even your closest ally there when injustice occurs.

I don't know why you took it so personally? I didn't say anything about you.

And it's not that it's better to be left wing, I just noticed that the balance of left vs right on the site changed. But maybe it's better to say, it has moved more toward the middle in general.

The thing with "socialism is".

It isn't.

All it is,

Is a largely philosophical adaptation of the same old system.

Oftentimes a harsher system that espoused equality but inevitably delivered an oppressive reality..

Better a freely unequal system, that at least delivers opportunity.

And the new techo generation sit in their rooms click their devices remotely politicising and refer to themselves as right or left.

Or even an anarcho-communist progressive, right wing libertarian democrat....LOL

What isn't? What "is" are you even talking about?

I get your aspects of central apoliticism running, but what are you exactly rooting this post for?

You stated that socialism is.

And I simply pointed out that socialism never really is.

One can chat about the concept.

But that's the limits of it's practicality.

There is, or never has been a State that was not reliant upon a more or less brutal system of hierarchical oppression.

Can you name one?

I know.

So I might or might not be agreeing with you.

But one cannot be sure, because you never stated what your interpretation of socialism was.

I simply stated my understanding of the concept of socialism.

I keep communist sympathies in my heart and ask the gods for forgiveness for my tyrannies. I think communism cannot win where any shred of capitalism exists. It's the flower choked out by nettles. The failure of communism is that it is cumbersome. It cannot compete with capitalism's ability to ruthlessly reinvent itself. And if it must compete, it's losing already.

I don't know what exactly Marx meant by opiate of the masses, but I take my religion like apathy. It's a ticket to being a bad person and I've bought it. I'm just hoping I can sneak the adultery by.

That aside, either Trump was bad or politics or DDO is dead. But the site definitely used to be a lot more interesting.

If I had to hypothesize, it's for the same reason furries are mostly left-leaning and weebs are mostly right-leaning: pure chance leading to a snowball effect.

If the site just so happens to have a majority of right-leaning users at its inception by chance alone, left-leaning users will be less inclined to join and more likely to be pushed out. Neither debate.org nor DART has anything that is intrinsically more attractive to any section of the political spectrum.

Echo chambers suck, but you can't blame people for wanting to be in like-minded groups.

generally you're going to get more comments from people who disagree with you than from those who agree with you

which leads to a sort of confirmation-bias (sample-bias)

Except the pure nature of this site is debates, not the forums. I did not even post 50 times on the DDO despite having "112" debates. I think this is just a statistical thing, where these people happen to be leftist for no reason. People can post and can choose to not post. If they do, they post. If mostly leftists posts here actively, that makes the illusion.

I would rather say that this site as a whole is more like an echo chamber, figuratively. In truth, if you talk like you do in DART, in schools, you get called your parents for no reason. If you talk like this in your job, you get denied your pay raise. If you talk like this in social media, you get cancelled because people don't understand. If you talk like this on the streets, people confuse you for a politician or a preacher and get disgusted.

Essentially we have like ~30 active users ponging back information and trying to reflect upon anything we talk about on the forum. Removing the aspect that leftists and rightists coexist, this site can almost be called an echo chamber where all we do is talking in a logical and critical and almost nitpicking way that would not be otherwise accepted by the wider society for the most part pratically.

Do I like it that way? I do.

True, there's a number of issues I talk about here, I wouldn't with people I know more familiar, family, work.
Though even here I have a filter.

I also think there's a fair number of left 'or right on this site, 'maybe,
Harder to tell than how active Alliance vs Horde are on a WoW server.

I believe this is the better question. A hippie is vastly different from a commie and if a hippie exists in a commie state chances are that they will be imprisoned. Same with a libertarian and a monarchist. I believe that labeling someone as "left" and "right" is not representative at all. Even the political compass with 2 dimensions can't do it, why 1?

I guess I am fine with being called "a leftist", but don't confuse me with a hippie, a jacobin and a TERF. The same goes for anyone right. The crimes committed by, say, national socialists, should not be alotted to libertarians due to them having nothing to do with it. We just..shouldn't categorize people just into left and right because it means barely anything.

How do we measure how left or right any ideology is? Is fascism more "right" than capitalism?
