I can think of a few pros to this idea:

1) We don't have to spend anymore money on the military, because what nation would we have to defend ourselves from if we were all in the same nation.  This allows tax cuts to be implemented across every country.

2) Freedom of movement (and the economic benefits that come with it).  Not everyone thinks this is a good idea, but fears with the idea and the pros to this idea are addressed in the following presentation: Open borders presentation - Google Slides

3) The surrender of all international nukes to the UN from every country (and the UN destroys the plans to make nukes and the nukes themselves to become nuclear power for the planet).  No more nukes -> humanity is significantly less likely to become extinct from an apocalypse.

4) Countries fighting over territory when they are in the same nation is like Wyoming and Montana fighting over territory.  The only time there was a war in the US over territory was over the Toledo strip and it was far less bloody.  Countries fight with each other over land, but states tend to not do this because any Ohio resident that wants to be part of Michigan can move to Michigan instead of fight to make Toledo part of Michigan.  This can help bring world peace.

I'm unsure if I support this, but there are pros to the idea, so what are your thoughts on this?

Yes, a Unified Earth Government (UEG) doesn't sound too bad in theory. Countries could exist and operate pretty independently, but the UEG would be empowered to eliminate despots and ensure freedom for all. As a result, we could preserve the diversity of language and culture that we like, while ending war and poverty that we don't. Trade would flourish, and prosperity would abound. What's not to like?

@RM

Electoral college determines that.  Every state (now known as countries) gets 5 representatives or some number like that for being a state and the rest of the electoral votes are given according to population with one representative for every 10 million people or some ratio like that.  So America would get 33 representatives and 5 senators, yielding 38 electoral votes for America.

But a lot of things should be left up to the states.  The global constitution should establish the following:

1) Murder is banned.
2) Rape is banned.
3) Arson is banned.

Despite how different the world is, I think we can all agree on that.

If we are going to use the UN for government than we will need to substantially re-write that organization's structure.  There's  no point trying to build a just global society when dictators like Putin or Xi have a veto.  Likewise, all member states would need to constitutionally  agree to free and fair elections, and  guarantee univeresal suffrage. Such a change would necessarily lead to a near term decline for America but if global govt. could enforce a more effective response to the challenge of global warming then it might be a worthwhile trade-off.

What if every country except Russia and China initially join the world nation, we sanction the Russian and Chinese oligarchs until they give up their power, and then get Russia and China to join once they are sanctioned into submission?

Also, how would a one world nation lead to American decline?

I think the UN should be run this way now-  no UN representation, no world trade org, no world health org, etc UNLESS and UNTIL you are a free and fair democracy.  Non-democratic members of UN works from a diplomatic point of view but its no way to run a govt.

Also, how would a one world nation lead to American decline?
  • US would no longer be a superpower with the advantage accorded therein
  • US would no longer be leader of the Free World with the advantages accorded therein
  • US is only 4.2% of world pop.  Obviously, the priorities of China and India would dominate any real global democracy at the disadvantage to US priorities.

I think the world economy would collapse. States are a class system enforced by armies, and you need armies between the man making 3 cent an hour and the man making hundreds and thousands and millions an hour. And if you've not got both of those men, you've not got a lot of movement. It's the vast differences in wealth and value placed on our time that allow such mobilisation of the masses.

China and India would dominate unless a lot of people move to the US from the world.  If America is the first country to open up our borders, then about 1.2 billion people would move to the US, and then there would be 3 world powers; America, China, and India.  India is an American ally, so there would still be western dominance.

I think I would prefer to lose the power advantage.  My Rocky Mountains are already full to capacity.

sort of.  US hypocritically opposed Indian independence until the end of  WW2 and then heavily preferred Pakistan for most of the Cold War.  Trade and democracy have brought the US and India closer but I'm not sure we are forgiven yet.

Operation Get Out Of Debt - Google Sheets, row 843 indicates where the newcomers can move into.  Every dot on the diagram represents a planned city with the land area and population of NYC.  I call them the New Apples (named after the big apple).

Trade and democracy have brought the US and India closer but I'm not sure we are forgiven yet.

Depends on the country with #2. Officially it's banned in Saudi, for example, however you need so many male witnesses to testify to it and even then it can end up the woman is blamed for seduction and wilful sex outside of marriage such that the women ends up scared shit to ever prosecute for it.

Yep.

I was wondering if Mr U Dog had taken the religious side of things into consideration with their One Nation proposal.

I'm guessing that this One Nation thing is basically tyranny dressed up as a  good old light coloured American thing.

I might be wrong though....And freedom of expression for all Muslims might be hot on their list of priorities.....Chinese style of course.

Firstly, Brexit actually happened. The UK is out of the Union.

Secondly, contrary to what the pro-Brexit propaganda said, UK actually has had a massive seat at the table, equal to Germany and France, the entire time. In fact, UK and France are the two big dogs, Germany only gained genuine power and respect in the EU because it gave to it a lot financially and dedicate to proving it had learned from its past. The UK will never ever be able to rejoin the EU with the same level of power and sway it once had, thanks to idiots thinking it had no power and trying to escape a Union that it had a significant say in.

The approach in Sharia Law/culture is that women are the property of men and that sexuality is a singularly male experience. This means that when sex occurs, the women are by default taking advantage of the male's sexuality, in the Islamic understanding of sexual urges and dynamics.

In fact, this is very ironic in the sexism because therefore to them a 'whore' or 'slut' actually isn't horny, she is just enjoying men being horny over her. It is also why they can't recognise homosexuality as then they'd need to admit that two women can be sexually intimate and enjoy it, which would mean that they had to admit that sexuality is not only present in females but that it isn't at all a 'thing' that is used against men in particular.

When a woman wears a certain dress or walks and dances a certain way, in Islamic cultures it is said she deserves what happens to her for she dared to evoke the sexuality of the man. On the other hand, if the man is very sexy to her and she makes a move on him, she is said to be a filthy whore possessed by the devil.

Rapists are put to death if convicted in Saudi Arabia, so they may view sex differently, but they are also tough on rape.

The world doesn't agree on everything, but I think we can all agree that rape should be severely prosecuted.  The middle east tends to have higher rape penalties than the west.  Because of this, I think rape is less common in the middle east than the west (although I'm not sure and the correlation isn't strong).

1. No need for military,
Aliens from space, bandits, separatists, rebels, terrorists, so on.

2. Freedom of movement,
Common enough in history, you just assume your own values.

3. No nukes,
Aliens from space, bandits, separatists, rebels, terrorists, so on.

4. No groups will fight wars.
Gangs, Mafia, different beliefs, Democrats Republicans, Sunni and Shi'a.
The beliefs, values, differences will not disappear simply because you say one country.

Though 'maybe largeness of conflict 'might fade a bit.

The military costs will be much less than what we currently spend on the military.  I also don't think aliens are a threat to humanity.

China gets sanctioned by the rest of the world that would have freedom of movement until they agree to let people in their country.

Aliens from space, bandits, separatists, rebels, terrorists, so on.
All of these entities are either not a threat or don't require nukes.

Gangs, Mafia, different beliefs, Democrats Republicans, Sunni and Shi'a.
The beliefs, values, differences will not disappear simply because you say one country.
The 10th amendment lets democrats live in a left state, republicans in a right wing state, Sunni Muslims live in a Sunni state, and Shia Muslims live in a Shia state.  The 10th amendment is a wonderful thing.
