Okay, now that I've had a chance to read up. I did not see that the popcorn claim was for characters only. Well, since character claims are completely and utterly pointless and null information, I have no problem character claiming. I'm Red Wing.
This whole "locking scum into characters" with not thematic split is a bit silly. There isn't a single item that couldn't be shoehorned into 5 different roles. Not to mention there are only a small handful of roles that are inherently scummy anyway.
If you're going to force people to claim, then at least force them to full claim. Otherwise we're just jerking ourselves off here.
Also, I've decided that voting people to make them active isn't a thing. If they're not here, then they're not here to respond to any votes either. Like, voting a person in this game doesn't send out a psychic vibration through the aether that pings their brain IRL to bring them here. If they're not here they're not here. I mean, look, Croc is a target for inactivity here like he was in my BAMF mafia and he got lynched for it. And he was Town!
Players cannot force other players to be active because players have no control over other players activity. Inactivity or activity isn't a sign of alignment so lynching players for inactivity is just a random lynch with extra steps. Let the mod deal with inactive players. Listen, I get the psychological desire to lynch inactives, but having seen that it never really pans out well It should be abandoned as a strategy.
The other problem with things like popcorning is it gives scum free rein to bandwagon. They are allowed to freely vote whoever the popcorn target is (likely to be town) and not be held accountable for that vote. Normally that would be a fairly substantial FOS.
As it is, my biggest scum read right now is Water. He jumps in posts once about being okay with popcorning but then doesn't actually participate in the popcorning and leave again.
