Truth is, there is not much to be done when the voting period is over ( it's impossible to delete or edit the votes without messing up the ratings of the participants ). I may try to find a workaround at some point but I don't know how and when yet

New changes:

  • Simple forum leaderboard
  • Debate vote descriptions are now always required ( it may sound bad but the minimum length is only 10 characters so it's more of a formality )

I am going for a vacation starting tomorrow so the updates will slow down and I may be unreachable sometimes so don't panic :)

New changes:

Added a way for the mods to mark forum posts and debates as handled. Those posts and debates can be distinguished by a presence of a green check icon indicator.

I noticed that I can cut and paste pictures into the chat window and they appear fine, but are stripped out of the post once I make it. Is this by design? Can it be turned off so that we can paste pictures in forums and debates?

Kinda. Supporting images can be a headache so to speed things up on the first stage, I simply disabled them but I will add them later if there's a way to support them properly :)

I really think moderators should be able to remove votes after the voting period expires -- a voter could just cast a nonsensical strategic vote 5 minutes before the debate is over and the voting period expires, and that vote bomb would stick. That's why, on DDO, the policy is that votes should be removed if they don't meet the standards up to one month after the voting period expires.

re: the concern that the rankings and Elo would change -- yes, they would. What's the problem with that?

Yeah, that's a really good point, I also thought about the same thing, the problem here is that deleting votes after the debate is finished is tricky because the ratings change depending on the participants' rating at the moment when the voting gets finished. So lets say that you got 15 points for the win and the opponent lost 15 points and then in a couple of weeks, you want to remove some vote and possibly change the debate result and reassign the points and that's where the problem occurs, I don't know how many points I should reassign. It could have been any number and there is no way to find out that it was 15, in this specific case. So I am not saying that it's impossible to do, it's just not a matter of 10 mins so I'll probably get back to it some time later. So it will be there, just later.

Sooo... how much longer are we going to have to quote manually? 😬

So the one issue that comes to my mind is that you are starting to use the editor before it's completely loaded, which takes some time, probably around a second, give or take ( editors are built with lots of magic and it takes time to load 'em up ). And the truth is, there are not many ways to go around, maybe blocking the whole editor until it's loaded to prevent confusion but that's also not the nicest of solutions. Anyway, could you please let me know if that's actually the issue or it happens after the editor has been loaded anyway?
Remember when I reported this same glitch a while back: https://www.debateart.com/forum/topics/1?page=2&post_number=43

I've been monitoring it ever since. Unfortunately whether or not the editor buttons work is totally random for me. But I know I've experienced the problem even on pages that had fully loaded. It seems to persist across multiple different browsers.

@Castin
Hi there! At the moment I am working at the profile pages in order to show users' comments, votes and posts which is gonna be quite handy for both users and the mods.  And I am also on vacation so don't want to spend too much time in front of computer, if to be honest haha

I'll get back to the quoting situation, I promise :)

Regarding the editor, I've done some changes to it which I thought could help but apparently not so I am not exactly sure what may be causing this issue. Also it doesn't happen to me so it's even harder to trace. I am wondering if could actually help me with it? It would be really helpful if when it happens, you could open the Developer Tools of the browser ( it's not hard to find ) and then see if there is any output in the Console tab because usually if something breaks, there has to be some text written in red. Thanks :)

I noticed that sometimes the "Text" options work and sometimes they don't. This often occurs if making more than one reply in a thread. I find that I have to get out of the thread, go to another thread and then come back in order for it to work again. Almost like it needs to reboot or something. Is this normal or a glitch?

Sure, no pressure man. I hope you're having a good vacation. Adding those features to profiles is definitely a worthy task, I've been really wanting them.

And no probs, here's a screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/cpeaR9e

I wish I had more information to give you. It's such a random glitch and I just haven't been able to reproduce it reliably.

Yeah that's the bug we're discussing now. Annoying, isn't it. Sometimes even navigating away from the page and back doesn't fix it for me.

What do you mean about it occurring more often after making more than one reply? I haven't noticed it happening any more often in threads I've already made one post in.

It happens if I use the options in a thread, especially the "Quote" option, post to the thread and then scroll up to that page to respond to another post, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, more often doesn't. So, it would appear that once a post is made, you have to leave that page and come back to it in order for the options to work again.

Hmm. I haven't seen this, myself. How often does it happen? Often enough that it can be reliably reproduced?

It happens brutally often, if I didn't know some tricks I would have missed debate deadlines due to it. It takes many, many refreshes to fix and even then sometimes you need to go incognito and refresh 10 times or reload the entire incognito page free of cookies and cache to make it work.

One thing I found increases the odds of success is clicking the text box immediately after the page loads but NOT TYPING immediately.
