Back on the second floor, Grahf checks out the room to the east...

Red velvet drapes cover the windows of this room. An exquisite mahogany desk and a matching high-back chair face the entrance and the fireplace, above which hangs a framed picture of a windmill perched atop a rocky crag. Situated in corners of the room are two overstuffed chairs. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves line the south wall. A rolling wooden ladder allows one to more easily reach the high shelves.

I think what we have here is a mirror of transfixion. Basically, if you look into your own reflection, it paralyzes you, then traps you, or your soul, cant remember which, inside. I remember hearing about it when i visited the Underdark as a small child.

As long as you don't get too close, and dont look into the mirror, we should be safe. Cause i swear, that reflection was not moving with Grahf as he passed by, it was looking right at him even as he was moving across and not looking at it.

If im right, we might have an exelanation for the dissapearances, and why this town is desolate and abandoned, yet the children only claimed two days had past. Either the original messenger, amd children escaped somehow, or the mirror purposely let them out to lead further prey here to trap within. 🤔

I say we take a drape down and cover it, probably not a good idea to just destroy it, but I don't really know.

The desk has several items resting atop it: an oil lamp, a jar of ink, a quill pen, a tinderbox, and a letter kit containing a red wax candle, four blank sheets of parchment, and a wooden seal bearing the an insignia of a windmill. The desk drawer is empty except for an iron key.

The bookshelves hold hundreds of tomes covering a range of topics including history, warfare, alchemy, and collected works of poetry and fiction.

If the mirror currently has people trapped within, destroying the mirror means they cannot be rescued. I think before we take such a measure we need to try to get anyone potentially trapped within, out.

If we haven't found the baby yet, then i fear the child is either dead or trapped in the mirror. I suggest we investigate the basement to see what type of monster is potentially trapped down there, after searching the library for clues and spells 💯👌

(Grahf, grab a couple alchemy books, preferably a book that seems to be about poisons, and one regarding medicines. Merlin and I will assuredly out such tomes to good use. Try to see if there is a book on the history of Barovia, maybe a personal journal of some sort)

(Weight certainly is a concern, I'll say that Grahf takes the most promising book on each topic).

As Grahf rummages through all the books, he finds one that does not come free from the book shelf. Instead it tips forward, revealing a secret door along the south wall. This secret room contains more bookshelves packed with tomes describing fiend-summoning rituals and the necromantic
rituals of a cult called the Priests of Osybus.

A heavy wooden chest with clawed iron feet stands against the south wall, its lid half-closed. Sticking out of the chest is a skeleton in leather armor. Three darts are stuck in the dead adventurer's armor and ribcage. Clutched in the skeleton's left hand is a letter.

Traps are not my forte, however the length of the spear might be useful to get the letter safely.  I wonder if the letter is the same as was given us......
Another option is to fish the skeleton out with a rope in conjunction with the spear.  Using the pole to guide and place the rope in an advantageous spot.
Possibly the traps have all be set off, what do you think Zud?  Do you think we should just go right in there take the chest and note out?

Detail the secret room, in more detail. At any rate, outside out the room, use Mage Hand to open the chest

While we are waiting on Grahf, i pull out my lute and begin playing a tune. A soft and melancholy melody that matches the dark atmosphere of the town and house.

🎻🎻when darkness falls, upon you
and covers you, in fear and shame
be still and know, that I'm with you
and I will say your name

and if you walk through the valley
          where sleep no longer comes
Be still and know, that im with you
Be still, be still, and know 🎻🎻
