There was a big difference between lip service and signing an agreement to spend a certain amount.

This is what an alliance is supposed to look like.

If there ever was a good time to get Canada to commit to serious funding and action, it would be now as their far-left PM was about to resign.

They agreed to spend a billion. That's tiny in the bigger scheme of things. There will be more drug enforcercers but it's diminishing returns when they were already cracking down and hardly any drugs come from there. It's all theatrics at this point to give trump a fake win. Most of trumps objectives weren't met so he caved to lip service and theatrics. Classic trump, create fake problem, cause dysfunction, create fake solution, fixing some of what he broke but not what's important, then declare victory and his idiot sheep applaud wildly

A billion is actually a lot for Canada. And it is far more than zero. Trump knew Canada was in no position to tell him to fuck off like the trolls on this site regularly do. The far-left is in a massive decline right now politically in Canada. To refuse Trump now would mean the equivalent of Biden destroying his own party by resigning and then starting a hot war with Russia.

It's still theatrics considering it don't change much. Trump tried to put both countires in peril and even if he sticks to lifting the tariffs, hes caused irreparable harm to our alliance and reputation. Token gestures and theatrics don't justify trumps actions and changed next to nothing. Trump caved and caused damage with barely anything to show for it, bottom line

When the new party takes over in Canada, we will see how the relationship holds. My guess is that they will agree with most of what Trump wants as it will help them politically as well.

@WyIted
The tariffs on Mexico worked, they are committing 18000 troops to the border.
First of all, it's 10k troops, as in the same number of troops Mexico already deployed to the border under the Biden administration. Mexico didn't cave, they gave Trump was the US already had.

The deal Canada announced - committing 1.3 billion towards border security... That was announced last year. So once again, all Canada did was give Trump what he already had.

They're both laughing their assess off at this.

Moreover, the incoherence of Trump's position here cannot be overstated. He's been talking about tariffs since the campaign trail saying we need to do this to fix our trade deficit because these countries are "ripping us off". So if these tariffs were necessary for economic purposes, what the hell does any of this have to do with fentanyl? No one knows.

And then there's the fact that the amount of fentanyl coming into this country from Canada amounts to about 0.2%. The amount coming in from Mexico is significantly higher but the overwhelming majority of that is brought in by Americans through legal ports of entry. So you could put 100k troops on the border, that would do nothing to solve the problem, so the "fix" Trump is claiming victory on will do absolutely nothing.

You know what would have done a lot to solve this problem? Investing in agents and equipment to detect fentanyl at the border. You know where that was? In the border bill that Congress was ready to pass last year until Trump intervened to stop it.

And in the meantime, all this posturing and claiming victory ignores the fact that Trump has now alienated or closest ally and trading partner, caused the stock market to crash, and has lead to an economic environment of confusion and uncertainty which is the opposite of what an economy needs to thrive. But Trump claimed victory and Fox repeated it, so it must be so.

This is why Trump won. Because all he has to do is look strong and people like you uncritically accept every fantasy he sells you.

Lol, don't try to defend that ridiculous poison pill political play. Americans didn't bite and swallow it in November and most certainly not now.

The election is over, and you are still talking about campaign tricks and scams that failed 3 months ago.

Try to keep up.

Mad respect to Trump for admitting that there was going to be some short term economic pain for a long term plan of action and a solid commitment in writing from Canada. As we know from previous failed leadership, admitting economic downturns rarely happens, if ever, which is why faith in the Democrat party is at an all time low. Nobody wants to hear over and over that inflation wasn't a real problem. That's why the channel was switched.

So me and double R completely owned u guys concerning the wisdom of trumps tariffs and the wisdom of lifting them. Now u latch onto any irrelevant weak points and irrelevant side issues. What goes on in your mind when this happens ? Are u aware enough to say? Do u acknowledge the cognitive dissonance? Do u acknowledge that u r evading the heart of the issues?

What goes on in my mind is that before Trump, we had no signed agreement with Canada. Today, we do.

This is what an alliance is supposed to look like. Signed agreements. Binding commitments. Not talking points.
This is why the far-left is objectively in a massive freefall in both the US and Canada, because of way too much lip service and way too few binding agreements.

You can pretend that it is not, but the world will go on, regardless. The election is over. Orangeman will Orangeman, heedless of your tears and fears.

1. you think getting an agreement "in writing" justifies all the harm trump did, even though those agreements were already in place? 2. is that 'in writing' part something that will change anything or something beyond what was already being done, or is that just some sort of brain hack you do to settle your cognitive dissonance?

What's your proof for this? Are you now claiming we had a written agreement a year ago?

Or is this more of your imagination to get the facts to fit your feelings?

Why do you still get your opinion-news from MSNBC?

They lost around 75% of their viewership after the Kamala Harris loss for a very good reason.
Their opinions were way, way off with the rest of America and reality.
Citing MSNBC says more than you think it does.
I get that you want to cite a radical far-left news outlet to align with your radical far-left thinking....
But there are soo, soo, much better options for far-left opinion-news.

do you contest the facts they present? or their arguments? I realize they are bias, but they have a reputation for accuracy and educational. unlike many other news sources I could mention. I could cite the new York times, or the Atlantic, or PBS, or NPR, but you'd say the same thing. you prefer propaganda over the facts, apparently. your diversion argument isn't an argument, it's a diversion. engage with the information. there are arguments you could make, but i'm not going to make them for you, and they'd be weak anyway.

Facts? The article clearly is listed on the top as "opinion"

Again, I am open to hearing the opinions of the far-left as a devil's advocate, but MSNBC isn't a really accurate representation of the actual far-left. Certainly not anymore as most of their far-left viewership left for more honest takes. I would be far more open to hearing what actual far-leftists think about the current situation, not manufactured narratives barely any leftist listens to anymore since the Harris loss.

I could cite the new York times, or the Atlantic, or PBS, or NPR

Sure, any of those would be a world of improvement and closer to reality.

the article had plenty of facts to engage with. and arguments. they are the same arguments be and Double have used. a key point in the article is that it quoted experts who are engaged with the details, and they said it's unclear what concessions trump will actually get. to make your argument for you, you should admit that there are no 'plans in writing' as you stated, but just an 'agreement to make an agreement', and to your side, that could change things, maybe, or maybe more than marginally. but to our point, that's not clear by any metric, and it was dangerous for trump to go down the path of putting tarriffs on Canada. I could live with the tariffs on Mexico, though, either way, even though they look very ineffectual and would probably damage all of north america's economies a lot, with an emphasis on the poor in America when food and supplies cost too much and there's chaos. I think you know deep down, that trump caved, if ithat's all he got and all we might expect

it quoted experts...

Again this is the part that got MSNBC into such the mess they are in now where so many leftists went to those other outlets you listed. The whole "my expert says this" take on the world meant nothing after the Harris loss. It's just bad take opinions built on the testimony of bad-faith actors.

Feel free to cite any of the alternative sources. I promise to take a good look at their more realistic take.

It's not even close to accurate, lol...some dude (my expert) says something and that's a realistic take on the world?
True, there was a time when they had more than just hot takes and actually had a reputation, but they cashed all that in for the quick bucks during the era of "storytime with Hitler." The election's over now, and the majority of the people on the left know MSNBC ran cover for failing DNC leadership, and know MSNBC is a large reason why Biden was forced to drop out and forced to watch Kamala lose in slo-mo time. Remember, this is the venue where morning Joe and others said Biden and Kamala were the best candidates in the history of Democrat candidates, and actively censored any opinion to the contrary. This is why all those media alternatives you listed have more viewership today, because they are much less obvious about lying to preserve corrupt and incompetent power structures that were directly responsible for the devastating Harris loss.

NPR, and other venues have totally moved away from that failed business model among far-left media, and for good reason.

Pull up a NPR article, I promise to take a look at the devil's advocate side in good faith.

I'm not gonna hunt down a better article just so we can reach the same impasse I just told you we'd reach. Plus to me the article is adequate. There's nothing stopping you from finding a credible source that says all the concessions trump got, in writing, if what you claim is true. But even if Mexico increase their troops from 30000 to 40000 and Canada spent a little extra, I don't see your argument making a whole lot of sense

Lol, don't try to defend that ridiculous poison pill political play. Americans didn't bite and swallow it in November and most certainly not now.
Americans didn't buy it because Fox news and others told you along with the rest of the MAGA base to believe the bullshit you just repeated.

You can't give me one solid reason without turning to Google as to why the border bill would have left us worse off. I know this because I heard the arguments made by the MAGA ilk repeatedly and the best they could come up with is the idea that the cap on border crossings before an emergency could be declared was too high, ignoring the fact that there is no cap now which is by any rationale objectively worse.

Like I said, propaganda works. You are living proof of it.

Mad respect to Trump for admitting that there was going to be some short term economic pain for a long term plan of action
lol

Mad respect? For admitting that he lied on the campaign trail? Well that's quite a spin.

This is the Trump cycle. Trump declares he will do something that's ridiculous, the left reacts vehemently, MAGA tells us it's not going to happen and we all have Trump derangement syndrome, then when Trump does it MAGA pretends it was a great idea all along. Wash rinse repeat.

As we know from previous failed leadership, admitting economic downturns rarely happens, if ever, which is why faith in the Democrat party is at an all time low. Nobody wants to hear over and over that inflation wasn't a real problem. That's why the channel was switched.
It was switched because propaganda works, as you continue to demonstrate.

Facts? The article clearly is listed on the top as "opinion"
If you had bothered to read the article you would have noticed it contained plenty of facts. But why bother, Trump already showed you the "fake news" escape hatch you get to fall back on any time you are confronted with reality.

Because reality is irrelevant to him, just as it is to all of MAGA. "Fake news", "your experts vs my experts"... These are just cliches designed to terminate all thought and allow the individual to rationalize any belief they want. Someone posted Rupert Murdoch's quote before about how other news organizations tell people what to think while Fox will be the ones to tell them how to feel... That's the best encapsulation of right wing media vs left wing media I've ever heard.

Yes everybody cracks down on drugs, this is about taking serious steps in that direction as well as securing the border as well as some measures that only certain members of the intelligence community have.

That was an omnibus bill with a lot of stupid shit in it and less serious than the efforts being taken and no Mexico never had 10k troops on the Mexico America border
