I would define faith as to accept the veracity of a statement based on the authority and/or credibility of the one who makes the statement.

What would you define it as?

@MAV99
I would define faith as just “the believe or trust in something”.
Just like being confident in the truth of a statement.

Whether it is based on evidence, no evidence, authority or credibility has nothing to do with the definition.

I can have faith that my bed wont fall apart next time I lay on in based on evidence.

Children can have faith that the tooth fairy will bring them money overnight based on authority (their parents told them so) etc.

So whether your faith is reasonable or not depends on your reasons. But I don’t think it’s reasonable to put your reasons for your faith in the definition of faith.

Interesting.
Why do you think someone could not reasonably put in, say authority or credibility in the definition of faith?

Then it wouldn’t be faith.
Hebrews 11:1-3
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

My dick did get maybe a bit bigger after I started exercising muscles and dick.

Maybe after 40 years, it will be 10 inches.

The only problem is that by the time I increase it to 10 inches, I will be very old. I wont be young and hot anymore.

But I have faith, because I had a dream where I had a very big dick, so I think that was a sign from God.

It was a sign that God has a plan for my dick. One day, people will look at my dick and see the glory of God.

Belief without evidence

I can have faith that my bed wont fall apart next time I lay on in based on evidence.
If there's evidence to back up the belief then the word faith becomes meaningless because there's no distinction between that and belief. It also doesn't match to how the word is historically used. No juror for example would ever say "we had faith the defendant is guilty" unless they were describing something other than a careful and thorough review of the evidence that lead to a clear conclusion.

Dick doesnt grow as fast as hair. Well, in past 15 years, it barely grew at all. This for me was an ultimate punishment from God. Having a small dick is worse than burning in Hell.

Yes, but having a small dick hurts mentally all the time and people laugh at you. Someone even told me that he has never seen a smaller dick.

Yes, but when you are trans, people assume that you are mentally ill so they treat you a little better.

According to you trans with a small dick are treated better than a normal guy with a small dick. That was your reason for turning trans.

Normal guy with a small dick is usually observed by society as a loser. This was always so. However if he becomes trans, people will begin to care more. I direct people's attention towards me being trans, so they consider me mentally ill and care for me.

But I read now that dick stops growing at age 18. I wish I started these dick exercises much earlier. Its really a shame that society never teaches you anything important.

I did become feminine at age 15, but only in last few years did I decide to grow long hair.

I was afraid of even being feminine because my country is a bit retarded and people are still in the matrix created by religion where they feel the need to mock feminine guys.
However, in past few years, I got the idea that I should let my hair grow long to see how it looks like, and it looks better than short hair.

Two different questions. You tell me not only what faith is but why you have it. It doesn’t need to be part of the definition because it can vary from person to person.

Trust
, faith and believe are connected in a sense so it’s hard to make big distinctions. Over here I am talking about the word faith outside of any context (religious or traditional).
To me “Faith” has to do with uncertainty and some beliefs could be more or less established and certain.
That is why I said “trust in something”.  Trust your belief will align with a certain proposition that is not provable currently, only in the future or maybe not at all. The distinction we are dealing with is actually about the degree of certainty and the role of evidence in how we arrive at a belief.

You can have beliefs that could be proven, justifiable and reasonable. They could be defined as knowledge.

You can believe things like the theory of evolution based on scientific evidence. Agreeing with a proposition or an idea is a belief.

But people hold beliefs based on bad evidence too. Believing because of an authority or because you had personal experience is evidence in the sense that it is something pointing towards a certain proposition. It is not good evidence but it is something.

Evidence is just information directing to whether a proposition is true or false. Some information is just more reliable than others. Some information is just false etc.

People usually have some kind of information that makes them believe in a proposition.
People can’t have “beliefs with absolutely no evidence”
They can have “beliefs based on bad evidence”.

Now do I know that the theory of evolution will hold true forever and there will be no better explanation for the evidence we currently have? No. Do I have faith it will- Yes.

I do believe Evolution is our best explanation for certain things based on scientific evidence.

My belief that it wont be disproven in the future could be defined as faith because I trust the future discoveries will align with my belief that Evolution is true. The current evidences for Evolution are the evidences I base my trust in the future validity and truthfulness of my belief. So I can have faith and evidence in the same time.

In a way, it’s almost like faith acts as a placeholder for knowledge we don't yet possess but expect to gain, based on current evidence.

Well yeah obviously it can be different from person to person, but that does not mean it cannot be in a definition.
To me, to accept something as true from someone who has no credibility or authority on what they are saying is not faith, but stupidity.
Not to mention you can define things differently. You can define it by material cause- which is the weakest of definitions, efficient cause which is next, final cause which is good but not complete and formal cause which is a metaphysical (or close to it) definition.

I totally disagree it cannot be in a definition. In fact, I would argue adding details like that further clarifies how someone is using the word.
There is no way I could go and check every single thing scientists say. It is impossible to go and check all the evidence they have gathered. I take it on faith, because of their authority. As soon as they go out of their league, I am immediately more suspicious.
Certain things too, we accept based on authority. Like history documents or that I was born on this day. That to me is still faith.

Trust , faith and believe are connected in a sense so it’s hard to make big distinctions. Over here I am talking about the word faith outside of any context (religious or traditional).
All words are made up so ultimately they mean whatever we say they mean, but if we're going to have a meaningful discission about the proper use of a word we can't divorce it from it's historical usage because that's where it gets it's connotation from, which is what ultimately drives how people think about it and in turn drives the takeaway from any message that includes it. To disregard that is to disregard the concept of communication itself, which makes the rest of this conversation pointless.

In a way, it’s almost like faith acts as a placeholder for knowledge we don't yet possess but expect to gain, based on current evidence.
But again, all you're doing here is interchanging faith and belief thereby rendering any distinction between them null and void when that's just not how they are understood.

Faith is most typically associated with religion, and is most often used to express belief in an optimistic sense. You don't need optimism if you have evidence, which is why I would define it as belief without evidence.

Belief simply means to accept something as true.

Knowledge like faith, is also a subset of belief. There's different angles on this, but from the self assessment standpoint it is used to describe a belief so strong in it's convictions that it is regarded as beyond question.

These are the definitions I stick with, andI not only find them clarifying but also consistent with any well understood usages of these terms.
