Keeping criminals off the streets benefits society as well.
Whippings are cheaper though.  If a criminal gets free rent, then I want free rent; I didn't fuck up; they did.
Can’t you find something better to compare yourself with than a criminal?

Since we're talking about criminal policy, no.

But why should they get government paid for rent and I don't?  I work; they commit crimes.  Don't reward bad behavior with free prison sentences.

After seeing that you are a liberal, I will modify my argument:

Whippings is less cruel of a punishment than jail time.  Whippings cause the prisoner to be in pain for maybe 3 days and then they're out.  Compare that with 90 days of jail.

Imprisonment is way more cruel than whippings.

Imprisonment is confinement. Whipping is causing physical bodily pain.

90 days of prison is more intense than 2 days of back pain.

One of my favorites!!

I think the criminal system is too soft on criminals personally.  A slap on the wrist doesn't help deter others.  A public whipping or a public hanging sounds barbaric, but it would probably deter others. BUT, I would agree with bestKorea that the best solution is prevention rather than a harsher punishment.  I think education and stronger families would create an empty prison system.

Children who dont suffer violence in childhood are much less likely to be violent. So just remove violence from childhood and it will be reduced too in adulthood.

Thus, violence must be removed from schools, families and from social circles.

I dont think criminals deserve some harsh punishments. When something doesnt work right, you fix it. You dont punch it. Punches dont have historically high success rate.

I would agree with this also, but what are you referring to violence?  Child spanking? TV show violence? Video games violence? Or outright closed fist beating of children from their parents?

All of that is violence by definition.

However, I wouldnt ban video games since they improve intelligence. Smarter people are less violent.

Is that true for the Healthcare CEO shooter?  Most organized crime is done by smart people.

Smart people have lower rate of crime. Japan has highest IQ in the world and almost non-existent homicides.

Sure, smart people can do bad things. But stupid people do more of bad things, plus make bad decisions.

I have plenty of ideas which can make people smarter, many even scientifically proven ones, but US government wants to keep people stupid which is why education system is mostly a failure.

The point of education isnt to make people know things, but to make people smarter. It seems that US education is based on 8 hours a day of mostly boring speeches and pointless activities.

Even today, I wouldnt have patience to listen to hours of someone's rambling speech, let alone back then.

Absolutely true.  The public education is not for the education of children but rather the socialization of those children.  They create their own puppets from the school system.  See the books by John Taylor Gatto.

Japan remained smart even though they were bombed by stupid Americans.

Well, there needs to be much more than few, to be honest.

Small things add up to create big thing.

Like, listening to classical music is linked to increased intelligence. Learning to play a musical instrument is linked to increased intelligence. Meditation and deep slow breathing is linked to increased intelligence. Binaural/Isochronic/Nature sounds/white noise are also linked to increased intelligence.
Playing smart games where you solve logical problems is also linked to increased intelligence. Some foods are linked with increased intelligence.
Drinking two glasses of water after waking up, two glasses of water before sleep, as well as drinking water every hour and aiming for 3 to 5 liters of water per day to prevent dehydration is also linked to increased intelligence. Debating and playing chess also helps with intelligence. Learning about logic, deduction, premises, conclusions, logical connectives is crucial for thinking, so it helps intelligence. Reading book summaries of smart books (Better than reading whole books. You get best ideas much faster.), writing down important things to use them later, writing down thoughts and ideas and solutions, and using AI also develops creativity and intelligence. Reading smart things, research and statistics is also guaranteed to challenge a person and improve intelligence. Learning how to create statistics and data from large collection of facts is also good. Learning a new language is also linked to higher intelligence. Memory games, memorizing songs and singing can improve mood, which indirectly helps intelligence, as memorization practice and good mood are beneficial to a person.

But imagine if all of these were combined and used together. They would create much greater effect when combined.

I have so far created a list of over 300 things which increase intelligence, and if they were all implemented, there would basically be a guaranteed increase in intelligence. Meditation and deep breathing on their own can increase intelligence by 10 to 20%.

Some things on my list are used in US schools, but in too small amount and mostly negated by all the useless things in US schools (knowledge which is neither necessary neither improves intelligence much).

Japan was probably stupid back then, but improved significantly over time. But even back then, Japan's government was the only axis government to remain alive and in power after WW2.

Thanks for the summary!  I would be interested in the list that you have accumulated.  I wonder how many of the items on your list do average Americans do as opposed to the average Japanese.

The list is not secret. Its based on my research where I checked many different things and studies about them to understand if they benefit intelligence or not. Some things are from my personal experience, but most are on the list because there is some study showing they work.

Are you saying the bombing actually made Japan smarter?

I've heard of smart bombs before, but didn't know that's how they worked.

You use your smartest and best scientist and engineers to design the bombs. So when it is used on the dumb enemies the intelligence is transferred.
