This implies that affirmations can be false but advises that they shouldn't be.
A lie is not an affirmation .

What is the simple definition of affirmation?
noun. the act or an instance of affirming; state of being affirmed. the assertion that something exists or is true. something that is affirmed; a statement or proposition that is declared to be true. confirmation or ratification of the truth or validity of a prior judgment, decision, etc.

So, how is an “affirmative claim” distinct from simply a “claim”?
It's a redundant phrase, now that I think about it. I guess something like "X is false" would be a claim but not an affirmative claim.

Right; that’s what I’m talking about. To my understanding:

“I am a fireman.” -> affirmative— or positive— claim
“I am not a fireman.” -> negative claim

By your logic “ I am not a pimp “ -> negative claim when it should be affirmative or positive.

@Savant

affirming you don’t have cancer is actually positive.
