It might be worthwhile for everyone to claim which Paper Mario game they're from- the title of this Mafia game makes it ambiguous as to whether characters are from all of the Paper Mario games or just the original. I'm from the original.
Yeah, that's what I was wondering about as well -- are the characters in this game from across the series, or just the original Paper Mario? Tubba Blubba only appears in the first Paper Mario game according to the wiki, so I'm thinking it might just be that we're all from that one.

In that case, welcome! Please be sure not to copy-paste your role PM. Earth didn't really make a list of rules this game, but doing that will get you mod-killed. I only bring this up because we've had this happen a couple times in the past with new players.

Have you played this game before? This is my first time playing with you. I don't think I know anything about you. 
Additional question

Have you read the forum mafia guide?

Yes, I read the forum mafia guide and the google docs mafia roles list to understand what I need to. After reading about what I can do in the game, I think I have an important role to play.

I have questions about the game, but I don't what to ask them in a way that reveals who I am.

I'll start off with some basic ones though. 
What does VTL, SOP, and MYLO/LYLO mean?

What does VTL, SOP, and MYLO/LYLO mean? 
VTL - Vote to Lynch. Use this when voting for someone. Always put it in bold.

SOP - Standard Operating Procedure. Certain roles where it's typical to claim them immediately if you have that role, because they're bad for the town. Hated, Miller, and Paranoid Gun Owner are all typically considered SOP roles.

MYLO/LYLO - Mislynch and Lose; Lynch and lose. MYLO is when there are two more remaining townies than scum; LYLO is when town outnumbers the mafia by only one. In both cases, if the town lynches the wrong person, they lose instantly because the mafia will be at parity with the town. The difference is that at MYLO, the town can choose to simply lynch no one, whereas at LYLO you don't have that option.

Some of both, yes. By the end of the 72 hours, we want to have a consensus on the most suspicious person to lynch. But we also don't want Mafia to have too much information about who's the most important.

Don't PM other players. Communication happens only in game thread and in the discord chat for the Mafia team. Unless you have a role that has a communication mechanic, of course.

I admittedly have limited information and even less context, but if everything is coming from the first game and Casey isn’t fake claiming, then I can at least see a trend among town characters based on theirs and mine. Too early and too little info to call any kind of theme split.

Some of us are in a chat with other players in discord. If the mod set up a discord chat with you then you can message other players there in the chat he set up. Are you in one BTW?

No we don't know who mafia is. They are an informed minority so they would be in a discord chat together. This thread is where the town chats and mafia tries to blend in and chat here as well

I guess being strong town would incentivize you as the kill.  If I was mafia I wouldn't do it on NP1 out of principle though.
