here's a study on trump's cult of personality and his supporters

now I know not everyone who votes for trump is part of the cult. there are many who are merely conservative and trump is generally conservative so they vote for him. in the primary, trump's cult and base is the biggest as per mob rule, such that he wins the primary even though he's not too popular overall. after winning the primary, even non cult supporters will pile on.

with all that said, do you who vote for trump acknowledge that trump mostly has been put into his position due to his cult of personality?

I feel like if you denied it, you would be denying reality as per the linked study. so defend the position that trumpism isn't a cult, if that's your position.

If you think a study can prove the existence of a "cult of personality" then you are in a cult of "science".

Just as there is no way for a cult worshiping "Trump" to discredit the actual Trump, a cult worshiping their twisted notion of "science" does not discredit real science.

This is pretty much my summation of the situation. Trump isn’t my first choice… nor my second… nor my third… nor my…

I would pretty much take the entire Republican primary bench over Biden/Harris, though. Now, crank this forgotten gem up:

PS: Congrats on your 1000th post!

im unclear. do you deny that trump has a cult of personality? I feel like that should be obvious that he does so I can't wrap my mind around denying it. or, do you deny he is where he is due to his cult? it seems like out of 333 million people that we have, someone as pathetic as trump wouldn't be where he is with all the other options, unless there is a factor like his cult of personality. how do you deny it, if you do?

People in a cult never believe they are in a cult, like water to a fish, ADOL is oblivious to the fact that he is in the deep dark waters of the Trump cult.

I deny the proposition is susceptible to be proven by repeatably scientific experiment. I'm not going to answer the question if you think one of the answers is like calling the Earth flat.

I feel like that should be obvious that he does
There are over eight billion humans on this planet and each one has the potential to become obsessed with something or someone. In such a context there are no famous people without some irrational and dogmatic worshipers. The inverse is also true, everyone famous has haters.

it seems like out of 333 million people that we have, someone as pathetic as trump wouldn't be where he is with all the other options
Someone as pathetic as Trump? Is that also a "scientific fact"?

Watch these clip:

What do these clips tell you? Think about the full context. What does it mean that he appeared on these programs? What does it means that there was so much clapping?

Sidewalker brings up an interesting assertion, at the most extreme end of that line of thought is the hypothesis that the entire perceptible world is an illusion, i.e. you are trapped in the matrix.

An prison of delusion with no mechanism of escape is a dead end concept. What do you do with that idea? Nothing can be done with it.

Thus we can say if there is anything at all to do, it is to escape from delusions. Presume there is an escape, what is the reliable means to find it?

Answer that question and you've solved all propositions of invisible delusional traps of smaller scale. It must also be the correct answer to:

How does one know if one is in a cult?

I agree that some minority of Trump voters has a cultist mindset surrounding the man. But for most, it's really quite simple: it matters tremendously what set of policies the Federal Government advances, and the private moral failings of the man assigned to do the job are comparably trivial. It'd be nice if he was a perfect angel, but if principled refusal to vote for him means collective disenfrachisement and letting bad ideologies prevail at the highest levels of government then it's the height of idiocy not to vote for him.

Democrats understand this when it comes to their own side, and I'm not going to let them pretend that they don't. On March 22, 1998, following the Lewinsky Scandal, where it came to light that President Clinton had an extramarital affair and treated women (not least of which his wife) in a distinctly unprogressive way, feminist icon Gloria Steinem wrote an essay defending the man. I'll quote it:

"If all the sexual allegations now swirling around the White House turn out to be true, President Clinton may be a candidate for sex addiction therapy (note: here Steinem downplays his moral failings for partisan reasons). But feminists will still have been right to resist pressure by the right wing and the news media to call for his resignation or impeachment.

For one thing, if the president had behaved with comparable insensitivity toward environmentalists, and at the same time remained their most crucial champion and bulwark against an anti-environmental Congress, would they be expected to desert him? I don't think so." Here Steinem spells out the obvious: that Clinton being personally hypocritical meant little in the grand scheme of things if he used his position to advance policies that his voter base wanted.

Now, following this Steinem makes the claim that the affair with Lewinsky was more consensual than the purported (still to this day unproven) relationship between Clarence Thomas and Anita Hill. More recently, around the time of the #metoo movement's height, Lewinsky suggested that it was less so than the general public believed. And there were other allegations against the man of unwanted harassment which'd already come to light by 1998. But regardless, the subject of Steinem's letter, the Lewinsky affair, even with the knowledge generally available in 1998, was not one that could reasonably be construed as something other than a moral failure from a feminist perspective, as he'd violated the trust of his wife.

Again, this was from the pen of Gloria Steinem, the living embodiment of mid to late 20th century feminism. It was practically an endorsement of the man by the collective feminist movement.

Using the same science you use...go look up Trump's favorability rate (which has been polled thousands of times) among his supporters... he repeadtedly is way over 50% unfavorable within people in his own political party.

On the flip side, over 50% of Kamala voters say they are voting Kamala either because she is a woman or because she is not Trump. (with no other reason)

I'd say the cult of misandry and "BadTrump" is much statistically larger than those who see Trump favorably.

You can't possibly claim there's no cult of hate regarding Trump. And that it's by far, the largest cult.

Kamala's entire campaign revolves around pandering to this cult to the point that she has zero policies and is still somehow electable... now that's an actual danger to the country; as it falls under the control of a cabal of people that can do whatever they want with no policies and accountability simply because they have a cult following.

"We are a sacred brotherhood
who love our country true
We always can be counted on
when there is a job to do
We serve our homeland day and night
to keep it always free
And proudly wear our robes of white
protecting liberty

The Bible, cross, old glory too,
our symbols of a man
The sword and water, robe and hood
portray our noble clan
In search of peace and liberty
we pledge pur hearts and hands
We must defeat the Communists
to save our Christian land"

The usual I’m rubber and you’re glue argument, do you really find these silly equivocations convincing?

The best and most succinct expression of cultism by comparison to religion; “In a religion, your savior sacrifices themself for you. In a cult, you sacrifice yourself for your savior.”

Early in the campaign the Republican Party largely agreed that Trump was not the best candidate to beat Biden, he was neck and neck with Dasanis in the polls and Nikki Haley was climbing. Then Trump was indicted, and that pretty much ended the primary. It was more important to defend Trump than the party, and as a result the one candidate on that stage who stood a chance at losing in November is the one they coalesced behind.

Earlier this year the republicans finally got what they’ve been calling for the better part of a decade now; a serious border bill. But then Trump realized it hurt his political future, so the party set it to the side. All hail Trump.

Micheal Cohen, Steve Bannon, Rudy Giuliani, Sydney Powel, Jenna Ellis, etc. all living examples of self sacrifice for the dear leader.

Ted Cruz, Kevin Mcarthy, JD Vance, Mitch McConnell, Tim Scott, etc. all living examples of politicians who’ve had to humiliate themselves publicly to atone for their sins against the dear leader.

The 2022 mid terms… Enough said.

Trump destroys everything he touches, and those he destroys continue to “yes please give me more”. We’ve never seen a cult like Trumpism before.

**We’re a Band of Sisters**

We are a band of femboys and sisters,
With love for Kamala true,
We rise above the toxic high T noise,
And all the boys who spew.
With grace and sass, we’ll take the reins,
While they just throw their fits,
Let’s cheer for all the girly low T men,
Who know how to be hits!

With pink and power in our hands,
We challenge every lie,
No room for fragile egos here,
Just let the real ones fly.
In search of peace and justice,
We’ll shatter all the Trump walls,
For every bro who mansplains,
We’ll gladly kick those balls.

So here’s to all the leaders,
Who know their strength in hearts,
We’ll laugh at all the garbage MAGA,
And tear their male pride apart.
With Kamala as our salad beacon,
We’ll dance and lift our voice,
Because a woman’s reign is coming,
And it’s time to rejoice!

In your fantasy world, how is saying something is worse than X an "equivocation?"

There is literally zero explanation for why people are voting for Kamala other than what they admit to: She is not Trump.

Orangemanad is a toxic cult with one irrational belief, and America will suffer for indulging it.

It's not the first time evil people in power created a cult of fear to manipulate people, and it won't be the last.

To those outside the cult, the nonsense the cult spews are equivocations, that's just how equivocations.
There is literally zero explanation for why people are voting for Kamala other than what they admit to: She is not Trump.
That's just how elections work, if you vote for a candidate, it means you aren't voting for the other candidate.  Those of us outside the cult, out here in the real world, know there is no need to equivocate on that, it's just a simple fact.
Orangemanad is a toxic cult with one irrational belief, and America will suffer for indulging it.
Orangemaniac is a toxic person, with MAGA holding one irrational belief that he is fit to be president.

how is saying something is worse than X an "equivocation?"
It’s an equivocation when they aren’t remotely similar, and when the arguments that attempt to place them on equal footing fail at the most basic level, which is exactly the case with nearly every right wing “I’m rubber and you’re glue” attempt.

There is literally zero explanation for why people are voting for Kamala other than what they admit to: She is not Trump.
The reason it is difficult to explain why we are voting for Kamala is because she isn’t remarkable. She’s what we generally expect from any normal presidential candidate; she’s intelligent, she's a decent person, she respects the constitution, she respects the office, she is focused on working with lawmakers to solve problems, etc.

Trump is none of these things, which creates a dilemma; either we don’t get into the nuances of Kamala’s policies and positions which makes it look like she doesn’t have any when she absolutely does, or we do talk about these things in which case we’re accepting as a premise that any of that matters when compared to the alternative, which it doesn’t. Doesn’t matter whether Kamala’s idea of subsidizing first time home buyers is a good idea when Trump’s ridiculous tariff proposals will completely tank the economy. Doesn’t matter whether you think Kamala’s plan for childcare will really work when the guy she’s running against is threatening to use the military against his political opponents.

Context matters, the only thing remarkable about this election is that we’re about to (among many other atrocious factoids I could offer) put the guy who incited a mob to attack the US Capitol and watched it on TV for three hours while the National guard stood by waiting for his approval to intervene… back in the White House. The rest is kind of irrelevant.

Orangemanad is a toxic cult with one irrational belief, and America will suffer for indulging it.
What’s irrational is to pretend this guy is a normal, serious person who deserves to be anywhere near the White House.

It's not the first time evil people in power created a cult of fear to manipulate people
Agreed. Hitler and Mussolini are prominent examples. If only we understood the tactics they used to manipulate people and could draw parallels to help us understand which of these two candidates was most similar…

Trump destroys everything he touches...
Thank you for defining your cult with a single line of dogma.
I gave you a litany of examples to demonstrate the point. But as usual with Trump supporters, you must have ran out of bandwidth to absorb any of it so it came across to you as dogma. It’s ok, we’re used to it.

deep down they do; but they know if they are upfront and say they are in the Trump cult, then they know it looks socially unacceptable, so they dodge the question.

This is cowardly.  If someone asks me if I have Trump derangement syndrome, I don't dodge the question; I answer, "Yes" (because I have balls; unlike the MAGA crowd) and having Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is the correct position as Trump is a threat to American democracy!

It was more important to defend law and order and democracy.
By lining up behind a convicted felon who’s facing indictments in 3 other jurisdictions and where the evidence against him in all three is overwhelming, and where two of those indictments are for his attempts to subvert American democracy…

We tell you exactly how we think and still you ignore it
I don’t ignore it, I dismiss it because it’s absurd. If someone tells you they value their life and then jumps off of a building, it’s clear they didn’t really mean what they said.
