For sure, maternal instinct is an inbuilt programme.
Though, as with a lot of inbuilt programming, we have developed the ability to overthink.
Celibacy, sterilization, contraception, abortion, sexual pleasure, all overthinking the reproductive urge.
Just as going to the supermarket has overthought hunter gathering.
Sort of comes under the general heading of material and intellectual progress.
Of course, overthink also includes the ongoing ideologically inspired issue of penis/vagina angst.
Material evolution gathers apace, and overthink drags us back a step or two...Checks and balances.

Because consent is valuable. It’s what separates charity from theft and what separates consensual sex from rape.
If you consent to the risk of getting an STI, that’s on you.
