Welcome everyone to my first Mafia game. Let's hope I don't screw it up too badly. There are NO VANILLAS, and two Mafia. 

I think you guys are all pretty clear on the rules by now, so just know, if it seems like cheating, it probably is. I'm instituting a strict, "Don't be a Jerk" policy, and violators will be eternally shamed. If you need any more clarification, I'm always available for a PM. Also, tag me if you want a time check or a vote count.

All roles are randomly assigned, so don't get mad at me if something you don't like come out, and don't base your lynches on who you think I would pick.

With 9 remaining it takes 5 votes to Lynch. Dp's are 72 hours, and NP's are 24, unless you guys get done faster. This one ends at 8:00 June 3 PDT. I know the world runs on EDT, but I'm the mod, so I'm making you all have a headache trying to figure out what time It is, not me.

This one ends at 8:00 June 3 PDT. I know the world runs on EDT, but I'm the mod, so I'm making you all have a headache trying to figure out what time It is, not me.
Well, I hope you will still inform us when there are for example, 5 hours left till end, like mods usually do.

It would be unfair if we lose because we lost track of time.

Since there are no vanillas, it means basically any non-main character and non-confirmable role is a lynch priority as it stands, and if character doesnt fit role, then even better. Someone who knows the series well enough should give advice on character claims. I can only use google to tell me about characters, but mafia can do that too, so someone who knows these series better is needed.

Should be fun. I’m a Tolkien fan, though certainly not obsessive. I mainly know it through the movies, so I should be able to do some theme analysis this game. Don’t see anything in the OP that suggests a theme split - could be the obvious heroes vs. villains, so Sauron and Saruman. More than a few obvious heroes in this one as well, basically everyone in the Fellowship.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s get some activity. VTL Casey_Risk. Welcome to the forum mafia on DART! You mentioned previous experience with mafia. What was it? Also, what’s your experience with/knowledge of LotR?

Oh, and BTW, I still have to get around to watching the movies, so everything in the theme is based on the books. IDK if there is much of a difference, but we’ll see I guess.

Well, I hope at least third of the players are familiar with the books. I never read them, nor I intend to or can in the next few days. I can use ChatGPT to tell me about characters. Thats the best I can do regarding this game. Also, scum is probably going to take out players with most knowledge first, so late game is going to be a bit difficult if almost no one is familiar with series, even if we can afford 2 mislynches.

I guess we can ask people to confirm if their character is a hero or a villain. They dont have to claim characters, just say if they are heroes or not.

I don’t think this is helpful. Realistically, no one’s going to say they’re a villain, since that is bound to put them on the shortlist for a lynch, regardless of affiliation. It might help us find characters like Gollum who could be the Miller, but they should be full claiming regardless.

But just for the sake of completeness, I’m a hero.

I remember saying something like this last game and getting lynched for it.
To be fair, it was more than just one line, but the difference is that that was an effort to identify the theme split (which it did - we both ended up having to fashion fake claims that put us on the right side of it), whereas this is just obvious. Heroes vs. villains is as basic as it gets.

That's fair. Though if someone had claimed they were a villain up front but still part of the town, I'd be reconsidering the theme split.

But at this point, it's just going to look suspicious.

Thank you for the welcome! I've played mafia before on a site that was dedicated to it, though it was real-time and it's been quite a while.

I have to be honest, I know very little about LotR. I've never read any of the books or seen any of the movies, so I'll be relying on the rest of you and what I can find through Google. 

My shift at work is about to start (I work second shift) but I'll be free this weekend to participate in this game.

I figured it could help us later to figure out theme.

Because if theme is heroes vs villains, it means we can rule out all villains as town claims, so that only leaves heroes as town. But if some town are villains, then I guess that makes it harder to figure out whats what.
