Description
I find veganism a very important moral topic to be discussed and debated. For such discourse to happen, it will help us learn more about the morality of the how we treat non human animals, and also give a lot of moral insight on how humans treat other humans as well, since humans are also (biologically speaking) considered animals. The point of this debate is to simply make intellectual progress, and get moral insight. by providing new ideas, and giving opposing arguments that each side can take away from and learn.
I want this discourse to be civil and logical.
Thank you! :)
Round 1
First and foremost, I like to thank my contender foraccepting the challenge. I look forward to this debate and hoping to learn alot. Before we begin, I want clarify that this debate will be centered aroundthe moral side of veganism. It won’t be focusing on the health side of it,which is another topic for another day.
So without further ado, lets begin: I’ll start off with myfirst argument.
MORAL OBLIGATION
Humans have common moral attributes that just like animals, also have. Amongst the attributes that we have common with animals are the ability to feel pain, will to live, And an ability to experience joy. The suffering that they experience in factory farming should be our great moral concern in a rational society. And any sentient being that possess these main attributes, we therefore have a moral obligation to not harm them by not supporting the purchase of meat (or any other animal product for that matter). Moral obligations don’t just apply to humans but can also extend to animals as well. And since society holds common moral beliefs towards animals already, such as dogs and cats. most people in modern society would deem killing a dog/or cat for food immoral. If we wish to be morally consistent in our beliefs, veganism is the rational choice to take.
I look forward to your counter argument:)
