It would concern me and cause fear. That doesn't mean it should be labeled as a hate crime though. The people who were killing or conspiring to kill protestants should be put on a trial and if found guilty, punished, just like any other criminal. But labeling an idea or act of violence a "hate crime" doesn't do anything. I wouldn't feel better if the governor came out and said "we've had a terrible series of hate crimes recently". I would want to know how the government is holding these people accountable. Sticking labels on crimes doesn't solve anything.

Killing a police officer is more destructive to society because there is one less person out there keeping the peace and because they purposely put themselves in harms way to protect people. A terrorist attack is considered so bad because most terrorist attacks involve IEDs or other explosions and are used as publicity stunts. Why are hate crimes so much worse than normal crimes?

If you attack or kill someone yes you should be punished for that, but why does it matter what you were feeling in your heart? What does that have to do with the punishment? How would you need to be a trained murderer? All you would have to do is grab a sword, walk into a store, and outrun people. We know you don't have to be an expert to kill people with a knife because people do it more by knife than they do firearm.

They are happening just as must in red states and blue states the only difference is the fatalities tend to be higher in blue states because less people are carrying guns to immediately stop the threat. For example the mall shooting in Indiana or the church shooting in Texas.
