The biblical word for soul does not denote “soul,” as in the popular notion that the soul is the 'real me clothed in the body.' When people die their “souls” survive for all eternity. This modern mystic view is rejected by modern science who, despite all their efforts, has been unable to prove that a "soul" exists. Actually, the term for the soul in Hebrew is nefesh and it means a “life force,” that keeps the vehicle, the body, alive, or a “person.” Nothing more. The intellect, and not the soul survive death.
If you want to avoid my vote, fine. We have a right to vote in this country but, you make it impossible to vote here. You should not have a bais and allow my vote, meanwhile, vote yourself for Pro. Not sure what you want or expect from me?
Do you even believe in Judaism or are you just agnostic? As for myself, I am a Maimonidean, which is to say, I don't read the Bible literally - yet I accept what the Torah says.
Yitz, you have to enter the Torah into your debate. Though politics are a necessity, the debate is centered on the political stance of the Torah, not your own projection, though they are thought-provoking.
Thank you for sharing your thinking. I think we are mostly in agreement. Though I think that the Torah takes a republican view in some issues and a more democratic one in others.
Interesting but I thought this was going to be about the Talmud's view of socialism or capitalism, though. Nevertheless, I look forward to this debate.
I have to disagree, Type1 DOES sound like an anti-Semite. Saying that we Jews will merit Gentile slaves when Mashiach arrives... I’ve never heard more bogus in my life. A little Rambam could correct him, but I bet he wouldn’t even know who that was, or, if he does, wouldn’t care.
That’s how he comes off to me, I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see any silver lining here.
A few days ago a friend recommended me to your site, Spoiledjewishbelifs.com where I read all you had to say about Kabbala and it very similar, quite remarkably close to many views but not necessary my own beliefs. You see I identify as a Maimonidean, a follower of the great philosopher, Maimonides, in what some call the more rational part of Judaism and so I’m curious to have an open dialogue with you. I would feel honored if you were to discuss with me a little more about your beliefs regarding mysticism and see where we find common ground, regarding the soul, truth, and G-d. I think both of our beliefs have insights to share with the rest of humanity and look forward to chatting online. Let me know if you would share a similar interest in this open dialogue. I don’t necessarily see this as a debate but, more of respectful discourse and an opportunity to grow and learn new things from both camps. If you choose not to hold this discussion, I perfectly understand and respect your wishes. Thank you and I look forward to our discussions.

The better the argument, the likely the vote, whether one is convinced or not. Sounds fair.
It appears there is a liberal bias here, for sure.
Thank you for clearing that up for me. I will do so soon.

Its my right to vote hehe.
The trouble is that all the trolls from DDO are coming here!

Thank you for sharing your thinging. We are in agreement.
On second thought, the debate is titled "Democratic Party vs Republican Party".

Those were his mistakes.
Temple was the only place designated for sacrifice.
Just noticed my own typos, meant to say “without” the Mikdash, Jews can’t offer sacrifice.

Oh, ok.
Shalom Mr. Goldberg,
