I think this debate should really have defined what hedonism means by "pleasure". I think the argument falls apart pretty fast if following a hedonistic lifestyle means "always pursuing ways to increase & maintain one's dopamine production (or exposure)", but if you expand it to include, say, "pursuing any goal that will ultimately have an effect of making oneself happier in any way, or alleviating unhappiness in any way," that's very different ground to argue from.
