Donald Trump, 2005: “I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. When you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.”         He probably learned that at Wharton.

Well, for a lazy gold brick he sure shaped up... into the net worth of millions of gold bricks... 2.08 million of them to be exact.

Draft dodging is a military experience of sorts.

Though I'm not sure that your actual  military experience inevitably makes for a more rounded individual...Probably quite the contrary in some cases.

Would depend upon the individual and their previous experiences I suppose.

I think that it would also be fair to suggest that a privileged draft dodger is also unlikely to be a rounded individual.

I'm not sure what makes for a well rounded individual...Burgers and fries perhaps.

At New York Military Academy. Trump was known as a gold brick who consistently broke the rules. He was dismissed from his only command assignment for being a detriment to unit discipline and morale.
Even in High School he was a loser and a failure.
Oh, and his father sent him to military school because he was a lazy gold brick and rule breaker in regular high school.
Then he went to Fordham, where he got lousy grades and was a layabout and rule breaker. His father bought him a spot at Wharton undergrad where he was “The dumbest student I ever had,” according to one tenured professor. He graduated without distinction and has no graduate degrees, though he likes to pretend he has a Wharton MBA (he does not).

Wait,

If smart people sound dumb to stupid people

And stupid people sound dumb to smart people

How do we know which ones we are? 🤔

To be fair there is a lot of smart people at Wharton.  Somebody has to be the dumbest smart person.

Dumb people are actually less likely to use mental heuristics. Meaning there mistakes and ignorance is not as bad as the mistakes or ignorance of smart people. Idiots are also less likely to have as many cognitive biases as geniuses.

The problem with smart people is that they can come up with great reasoning for any position and it's not something likely to get disproven. Einstein was a genius. If he believed the earth was flat he would absolutely crush most smart people's logic and show superior reasoning.

You are correct that smart people are better at reasoning, but it doesn't mean they can't have really stupid beliefs or be incompetent at their job

This is also very true, but smart people deserve some of the blame for proselytizing about their knowledge more than explaining it.

It's also going to deepen a smart person's well of knowledge to learn how to explain their thoughts to idiots.

And there are nothing but dumb people in MAGA.  Somebody has to be the smartest dumb person.

Somebody certainly must be the smartest dumb person, but members of mensa are not dumb. Is your statement is true than would it be accurate to say that zero members of mensa votes for Donald trump?

Uhhh... permit me to follow your logic here... but if you agree with the rationale that smart people sound stupid to idiots, and all the MAGA people don't sound stupid to each other, and Trump is one of the smart ones... then... like... doesn't that mean all the MAGA people are smart?

No, it means all MAGA people are stupid, but they think they are smart.

I'm part of the MAGA crowd (though I fundamentslly disagree with them on some major issues, being a voluntaryist) and my professionally tested IQ is 144.

I also don't think people like Dennis Prager, Ben Shapiro, Robert Weissberg, and Victor Davis Hanson are morons either. Then there's the Claremont Institute and the Acton Institute, which both have very notable scholars working for them.

Also, believe it or not, you can be a MAGA Republican and not endorse Trump for president. A sizeable portion of the MAGA crowd has moved on from Trump to endorse DeSantis (like Carpe Diem). Though most of them still support Trump.

Just because someone disagrees with you that doesn't make them morons.

Like, I vehemently disagree with Ben Shapiro on Trump. I also vehemently disagree with Carpe Diem on DeSantis. But they are still smart people.

I also recognize that Bernie Sanders, as an individual, is smart, but his political positions are still dumber than wood. To claim he is stupid is to not realize the brand he has built for himself and the tens of millions it has made him. Make no mistake. Sanders is indeed very bright. And he's also very articulate. But ths views he advocates for are horrible and not all that well thought out.

The same holds true for Neil Degrasse Tyson and the late Carl Sagan. Their views are pretty dumb, but that doesn't mean they are idiots.

I also have some issues with AIER, even though we overlap on almost everything politically. They REALLY like to defend major corporations, almost to a fault. Sometimes it is hilariously bad how far they go to defend companies like Amazon. But that doesn't mean that they are morons. A lot of those guys have scores of published research in peer-reviewed journals and advanced degrees in their fields.

Because he uses a logical progression to convince people that his position is right; but at the same time ignoring when logic invalidates his position. There are numerous articles online with examples. Some people go so far as to say Harris KNOWS he is wrong, he just doesn't care. It's winning the argument that matters.

Oh yes, Tyson's ridiculous dismissal of binary sex using the most convoluted logic....

Another brilliant person using logic to convince without acknowledging his position is fundamentally logically wrong.

"It’s really heartbreaking for me to see Neil go down this woke rabbit hole and have to use these wild forms of mental gymnastics to justify these insane beliefs. I absolutely adored Neil’s remake of Carl Sagan's Cosmos, and his book 'Astrophysics, for people in a hurry.' I’ve always said that if I had a science teacher, or any teacher for that matter like Neil, then I would have been far more interested in school and education at a younger age. He was always so passionate about communicating and teaching; he really was a genuine force for good in regards to education because he was able to make anything sound fascinating and interesting. But it seems like he’s lost the plot. It seems like he can’t distinguish reality from ideology and, in fact, tries to blend them, him and Sam Harris."

Interesting. Yes, I have appreciated his clarity of speech, free thinking and independent opinions, and willingness to discuss almost anything interesting, but I eventually grew tired of his lack of awareness of his own limitations.

Yes, similar situation with Tyson. I don’t think he believes his own claptrap when he ventures outside his cosmology lane, though. I just think he fears losing his fan base and getting boycotted.
