Blue states send more money to the Federal treasury than red states. Red states get back more money from the government than they send.

“There’s also a clean partisan divide. Nine of the 10 states that sent the most to the federal government, per person, voted for President Biden in 2020. Nine of the 10 states that sent the least voted for former president Donald Trump. The typical resident of deep-blue Connecticut sent almost three times as much to Washington as the typical resident of deep-red Mississippi”

Wapo is so trash.

Only a fascist capitalist media outlet like Wapo could be so brazen about promoting support for an overtly tyrannical and openly corrupt government.

As usual, none of GP’s stories are relevant to blue states being welfare queens.

Me: blue states get more federal money than they send in taxes.

GP: Biden wasn’t able to pass student debt relief because it was blocked by lawsuits from Republicans

GP: Red states want to keep leasing oil and gas from the federal government.

GP: Republicans succeeded in allowing Covid to kill 1 million Americans

GP: Republicans we’re instrumental in getting people evicted from their homes.

GP: abortions are the real problem with the economy.

GP: The supreme court will not allow the Biden administration to implement an immigration policy that prioritizes deportation of people arriving in the US illegally who pose the greatest public safety risk.

I'm all for ending welfare, corporate or "Red State" welfare.

I agree with the anti-Fascist take on welfare.

That’s a broad interpretation of the data rather than a conclusion. So, what of it? Are you making a value judgment or something based upon that interpretation?

Broad interpretation? No, the data says red states pay little in to the federal treasury and get a lot of money back.

Ha! That is yet an even broader interpretation. Funny thing— New Mexico has the greatest gap of all the states between money out vs money in. It is the most glaring exception to your broad interpretation of the data.

Again, what of it?

Maybe he is suggesting Northern States continue to pay for the reconstruction of the South today as ongoing reparations for the devastation of the Civil War and forced Indian reservations?

Red States Lead With Federal Dependence

Democratic-leaning blue states tend to be wealthier and pay more to the federal government than they get. In contrast, Republican-leaning red states tend to have less wealth and receive more federal government funds than they pay. In the MoneyGeek rankings, 7 of the 10 most dependent states are considered red states.

Here is a pretty good article also.

The article suggests that Democrats don't care about the poor anymore.

It may also explain why Manchin thinks his party is so off base.

Yes, the article I cited and which you just quoted offers a conclusion from the data. And I agree— wealth is preferable to poverty. The data also show how much poverty in the US is concentrated in the South.

Hmm… maybe… just maybe. Or maybe he is implying that states which don’t vote “properly” should be punished by the federal government rather than assisted.

What I’m saying is the party that bitches about taxes and socialism, the Republicans, pay the least taxes and rely heavily on socialism.

Isn’t that hypocritical?

It doesn’t take much investigation to find hypocrisy in the realm of politics. Bitching about taxes and paying low taxes isn’t really hypocrisy though, and what you’re bringing up here is federalism rather than socialism.

My favorite example of right wing hypocrisy (and ignorance) is the guy that held up a protest sign saying “Keep government out of my Medicare!”

It takes some nerve to raise taxes in an inflationary environment. Inflation is already known as “the hidden tax.”

Inflation is probably the only true fair and flat tax USA ever implemented.

A storm that rains upon everyone equally.

“Keep government out of my Medicare!”
I've seen a lot of that, like people asking the government to reform itself.

Because there aren’t 50 Senators willing to raise taxes on the rich.

and what you’re bringing up here is federalism rather than socialism.
To the Tea Party and MAGA crowd, Federalism is Socialism. Any government spending and any government action is Socialism to them.

Obamacare, student loan debt relief, the FHA and Fannie Mae, efforts to transition to renewable energy. It’s all socialist leftists to those idiots.

It takes some nerve to raise taxes in an inflationary environment
Inflation is NOT a problem for someone making a million dollars a year

It doesn’t take much investigation to find hypocrisy in the realm of politics.
The hypocrisy I’m talking about is Republican voters from red states claiming Democrats are socialists when it’s the red state republicans who are taking all the federal money that comes from blue state taxpayers. Without the federal government, red states would starve to death.

I like Ike because he was a Republican and had a 9o percent top tax rate. President Dwight David Eisenhower, perhaps the last real Republican, had a 90 percent tax rate for the super rich during his administration. Eisenhower explained it this way: The super rich could avoid the high taxes by investing their money in things that make America stronger.

Eisenhower was a responsible Republican. We had a huge debt to pay off from WWII. He wasn’t like Regan, who believed deficits don’t matter, at least not politically.

Reagan cut taxes for wealthy people while increasing military spending and cutting spending for the poor, education, and research. Reagan killed the middle class.

Another Reagan legacy was the expansion of the alternative minimum tax.[49] When Ronald Reagan signed the Tax Reform Act of 1986, the AMT was expanded to target middle class deductions related to having children, owning a home, or living in high tax states.
