An individual can be anything they choose to be labelled.
I disagree.  The only way you can be a democrat is if you agree with their party 100% of the time (same with any other party).  Everything else is being an independent.  People should be independents.

I would suggest that most who adopt an unchanging political label do it for reasons other than policy. That is to say that they will always vote for the label irrespective of the policy.

Whereas independently minded people are not so conditioned, and will actually consider the possible consequences of their cross on the ballot paper.

Though hopefully all Americans are democratic rather than Autocratic.

Let's hope that the last election debacle was a one off.
