I don't know what religion you follow, but it's rather difficult to prove what you want to prove. 

I personally believe in afterlife because something so complex as consciousness can't just come out from matter, it must be eternal. I think afterlife could be elaborated as a hypothesis, though, because there is a good narrative that can make afterlife a consistent theory.

The afterlife (and the before life) are functions of faith and believers see them as "proven" only by dint of a selection of "testimony" that is driven by the same belief agenda.

The idea of debating something based in faith is a waste of time. The non-believer cannot be persuaded rationally to believe and the believer can not be persuaded not to.

How about clouds? the skies? They do exist.. Being alive and staying alive necessarily involves some form of intelligence and thinking abilities.

So, at best, you may say: "without a brain, one may not think like an animal, human or insect" but that's about it.

And even this, is not scientifically true: plants have been proven to be aware and to possess intelligence, memory and learning abilities which allow them, for example, to communicate with fellow plants through high frequencies..

Hmmmmmm.

I would suggest that there are currently three functioning levels.

Two relate to living matter and it's physical processes, and one relates solely to functioning physical processes.

Therein we can differentiate between sentient awareness, instinctive function and clouds.

I would further suggest that any residual energy that deceased matter imparts to the Universe is unlikely to possess sentient awareness or instinctive capability.

Rather, just the potential of it's component parts.

I did not wish to complicate this brief summary, with the possibilities that technology/AI might afford both now and in the future.

We used to have a horse on our farm Deb. My auntie landed it home one time, lonely after the workhorses when everything turned mechanical. Had a donkey too. Both completely neglected, spent 20 years below in an out of the way overgrown field together. I mightn't lay eyes on them for months and months at a time. Both male. I speak for myself, that's why I say it's difficult to prove it. But if anyone has ever had an extrasensory experience corroborated by others this one could say it's irrational without doubting.

How could you explain several dudes dreaming the same thing that comes true later on? How could you explain the clairvoyance that is accurate in its predictions?
