You seem to be arguing that you want it to be even more monolothic, not less.

Regardless, I am curious if anything other than Russia vs Ukraine counts as a hot, current debate topic that isn't some really one-sided covid resolution.

You seem to be arguing that you want it to be even more monolothic, not less.
Monolithic implies all in one time and place.  I argue if the Olympics were diversified temporally and geographically according to the priorities of fans and athletes, the Olympics brand might be more prevalent and sustainable.
