To avoid tracing me IRL I will be vague but I am having a significant thing happen somewhere in the next few days and it will signficantly impact my ability to give in-depth high quality replies, it is so annoying as it would have been at a nice break/lull otherwise but then again life is all about adapting.

the deadline was today, currently he has defined objectivity as 'the quality of being objective' which is tautologous. Equally, he has defined free press as 'The freedom of news media outlets to say what they want to say.' when that isn't the case, the free press is ideological, it has an ethos not just a status.
His description says 4 rounds but the debate is 3, however that would be okay as that's replicated in others.

Work it out with him please. There is no insane rush just figure it out. Plus the first round bypass should speed it up when you agree on definitions. I'm not worried about the deadline anymore now that a challenge has been issued. David is clearly here and active. You guys can figure this out like big boys I believe in you.

If I accept the debate, it means I accept the definitions and the biggest problem with how he's defined free press is that he didn't focus on this:
Freedom of the press is similar to free speech. It means that people have the right to give information and express opinions through publication without fear of government censorship, interference, or retribution, such as physical violence or imprisonment.
His biggest contention is going to be about libel and slander, I'm not scared to say this because I know it's one he'll inevitably have to bring up as it's the strongest Pro point of them all in my own opinion.
That's why it's extremely important that I make it clear that like free speech can be limited, free press can be limited too and what we are discussing is how to go about the limitations. I actually am also Pro (but openminded) on the topic, I am playing devil's advocate but I know some killer rebuttals and ways of thinking about what objectivity and free press are, in a democracy that will win me the debate.
I don't support his definition of free press and I want a proper definition of objectivity. How can I just accept 'quality of being objective' no, no, no.

Briefly debate why you don't accept the definitions in the first round. When I debated LD in high school this was a big thing we had to do when the pro would set up a definition. We had to be careful they didn't use something that could manipulate the debate in pros favor and clarify why our definition was better. But this was all done during the debate.

If Round 2 ends up being myself vs Computernerd, he and I have been having trouble finding a relevant/current issue that we disagree on or are willing to hash out. Could you give some suggestions of topics you'd like to see because I can think of many but they're either too cliche or too irrelevant to current events (or both).
