2024 presidential election thread

Lets all make our prediction as to who will be president in 2024

I predict Gavin Newsome, current Governor of California, as President in 2024. He will be losing at first and then a bunch of lost last minute ballots all for him and none for the opponent will put him over the top in the dead of night. Maybe Pete Buttigieg as his VP

Kamala Harris

Personally, I'm expecting another Biden or Trump election, though I think there's a good chance of someone else.

Those are the two people I 'currently find most likely,

Though my 'knowledge on the subject is 'near ignorance.

I've learned my lesson by now. It's not physically possible to predict a presidential election three entire years before it happens.

Anything could happen. So long as they were born a US citizen, anyone could run and win.

There is a slight financial consideration to be taken into account.

So I don't think that any old dude from down the hood, is going to be running.

Except from the cops of course. (Joke).

As ever though,  I expect that it will be the minority of floating voters that decide the lesser of the two evils.

And from a Democrat and Republican perspective, it will end up being either the evil ones or the evil ones..

Anyway we're all looking forwards to the next election circus.

And eagerly anticipating some sort of appearance from the Orange Clown.

I’ll register a prediction: I don’t think Biden is going to run again. I could be wrong but in 2024 he will be 82 years old 

You mean they’ll count the mail in ballots that they had been sitting on for weeks because they knew through polling data that they were going to lean heavily Democratic?

Historically, in 43 presidential elections since its statehood in 1850, CA has voted for the R candidate more often than the D.

If Trump had gracefully conceded he would be a heavy favorite to win in 2024 IMO. He is still pretty likely to become President again at this point 

I think DeSantis will make a show at the primarys.

I hope so. He is way better than Trump 

Wouldn't De Santis be just as divisive as Trump.

I know how you guys like your Us and Them culture.

But wouldn't it actually be better to have a Presidential candidate that appealed to a wider audience?

DeSantis would appeal to a broader coalition than Trump does, as he is less likely to scare off suburban voters. Unfortunately a first past the post electoral system all but guarantees there will only be two main political parties. Since the goal of political parties is to get elected they do a pretty good job of cobbling together viable coalitions of different voting groups, but holding enough groups together to win a national majority is hard enough. Winning 60%+ of the voters is almost an impossible task even when a candidate promises to try or promises to be bipartisan simply because there are so many mutually exclusive interests. I believe you see similar things happening across the pond

As long as you need $10 million and to be one of the two parties to run it doesn't matter who runs and who wins.

Well.

Hear we have a nominal Head of State...The Queen, an ailing 90 something. Unelected

And then we elect a government and consequently a Prime Minister.

And then we also elect devolved governments to Scotland, N Ireland and Wales and other British colonies.

And then we have an unelected Upper House of Lords. Which although sometimes wrongly portrayed  as a bunch of sleepy aristocrats, does in fact do a good job of  moderating the  government.

Although the Monarch does historically represent a powerful establishment lobby, they ordinarily have no influence over government policy.

Whereas in the U.S. The Head of State seems to have a more dictatorial role.

We do still have died in the wool political allegiances, but to a much lesser extent than the U.S. I would say.

And because of the nature of our multi-party system, absolute government control over policy is never guaranteed.

And then I would suggest that we have a mainstream media system which is seemingly much less able to directly influence government. And also religious  institutions with no direct influence over policy.

Rightly or wrongly, I see the U.S media as perhaps a third tier of government influence  and religious institutions very much as a fourth.

And then there's Global Media!...Heads down and  do as you are told, as it were.

Now that's a bigger issue.

why do you think California stopped voting red?

Because tech, the cannibal of souls, replaced oil as the political power in CA, and flattered Hollowood into thinking it could call vanity virtuous, and mistake it for charisma.

Charisma, of course, is something the glorious Trump was and is abundant in.

i'd like it if chris christie became president at some point. he's no non sense like trump tries to be, and blunt and all that jazz. chris is more politically savvy and has a lotta common sense. i tend not to vote for republians, but i would consider him against someone like kamaltoe. (kamala)
