Alpha is the top. Sigma would be more like outside of the hierarchy. Some would say greater than the hierarchy.

I would say Wylted has you on #2, though I disagree that sigma is necessarily greater than alpha. Even alphabetically, sigma trials alpha, but who says alphas are greater than numerics? Mathermatics is the language of the universe.
