but... it's 2021
Dream on
I wanted Denmark to win so I don't care
-->
@MisterChris
true lol
-->
@RationalMadman
nope, england aint winning
-->
@Vader
yeah i liked denmark but the italian team seems so likeable
plus even if england doesnt win, they have a good future ahead with lots of young talent
-->
@Dr.Franklin
Italy only knows how to play defensive, they have no clue how to approach hyperaggro teams. England has taken on and defeated many such teams and is also defensive at the same time.
Italy will lose 2-0, perhaps even 3-0. They struggle when the enemies are extremely prone to combo-brutalise-attacks.
Italy destroys teams that obsess over possession and safe midgame, England doesn't do this, they literally counter superdefensive teams specifically. Wait and see.
-->
@Vader
Denmark were amazing, superior to Italy in fact. Denmark had an excellent strategy (start off aggro, then switch to tiring the enemies out then boom boom boom attack relentlessly in a burst after some replacements), in theory this was absolutely optimal and should have defeated England, unfortunately, in practice because England's defense is so good, they couldn't force through a goal and replaced out an extremely cunning striker of theirs (Denmark's) for a more 'fit' one which was a bad move vs England.

@RationalMadman
where do you get that england is "hypoaggro", and while italy certainly is defenisve, this new team isnt too defensive where England can roll over them with speed.
Italy destroys teams that obsess over possession and safe midgame,
England is a possession hoarder team
-->
@Dr.Franklin
I didn't say England is hyperaggro, they are a very strong hybrid team, very balanced and intensely high-pressure. They only possess so much because other teams aren't efficiently tackling them, Denmark and Germany both had styles that could have knocked Italy out of the tournament, Italy scraped by due to extra time and penalties while England took on teams that could and would destroy Italy.
Italy was against teams that specialised in exploiting weak defence and hoarding the ball (Spain, Belgium and Austria)
England does side towards aggro though.

no they dont, they pass back and work slow

no England had to face Germany and denamrk, while Italy beat belgium(tournament favorites) and spain, neither side played tougher or easier competition
-->
@Dr.Franklin
England don't let the opposing team breathe.
Italy plays safe and steady. You are actually describing Italy when you're describing England.
Germany and Denmark were incredibly athletic and merciless when compared with Spain.

@Dr.Franklin
Don't you just hate games that are decided by dodgy penalty decisions.
120 mins of intense effort and all decided by a free shot at goal......I also dislike penalty shoot outs, for the same reason.....You might as well just have a penalty kicking contest.
-->
@RationalMadman
I tended to notice that as well. I think Kjaer's own goal was the nail in the coffin and ruined most of Denmark's momentum, but even still I think England made a great play on the pass as well.
I'm not a huge soccer/football fan. Try to keep up with the big games but ultimately never do
-->
@RationalMadman
are we watching the same team? nothing about england says that is plays aggressive or dont let the team breathe. they are well rounded though so i will give them that
-->
@zedvictor4
yeah not a big fan of penalty shootouts, i dont why so many games end with them
-->
@Dr.Franklin

From the millisecond the game begins through to the moment the Round ends, if England gets hold of the ball they taunt the enemy, passing with endless possession gradually and perpetually keeping it on the opponent's side of the pitch. They then close in and bim bam boom they can and will execute a perfect 3-combo shot into goal unless the enemy is well-prepared.
Germany actually had an extremely similar playstyle, that match could easily have gone either way.
Denmark liked to do this: go super aggro at the start, then play defensive and relax part way through the half and ramp things up at the end as the enemy is tired.
The problem is that England had very fit players, they just didn't tire out that easily.

@RationalMadman
big if

@Dr.Franklin
Why do you loke Italy so much, is it the Catholicism?
-->
@Dr.Franklin
@RatMan
If it was an England v Iran final, I expect that the Doc would be cheering on the Middle Easterners.
It all boils down to potatoes....Or the lack of.
And the Orange Dutchman didn't help of course.
I wonder who the Doc would support in an England v Netherlands final.
-->
@zedvictor4
ok this isnt about politics, italy is a lot more likeable
And the Orange Dutchman didn't help of course.
king billy was funded by Dutch merchants to overthrow a proper catholic king to open the bank of England to the Netherlands and the rest of Europe, the glorious revolution was the dutch money invasion of england, the jacobites were 100% the good guys.
I wonder who the Doc would support in an England v Netherlands final.
good question

meh maybe, definitely if it was northern ireland vs iran
-->
@RationalMadman
lol sure
but in reality- look at italy- they have passion- screaming the national anthem, fans going crazy, when i played soccer i was a defender so i can relate more to their style of play versus England.
I know other people are more serious about this- they believe denmark was robbed, they showcase the laser at the GK's eyes, etc, but to me-italy is just more likeable and i know you'll root for england cause your from there
-->
@Dr.Franklin
I could be from somewhere else in UK for all you know but I don't care about that, I definitely believe England is the superior team, strategically.
-->
@RationalMadman
maybe so, england could very well win, but watching chiesa score a great goal and then run dow and slide smoothly was just so nice to see, how could you not root for that?
-->
@Dr.Franklin
IT'S COMING HOME TO ENGLAND MATHAFACKAAAAA
OLE OLE OLE!!!
God bless lol.
-->
@Dr.Franklin
Terrible replacements by Southgate, both blatantly underpractised at penalty shootouts.
Regardless GG very fucking close
