@Castin
Thanks!

Yeah, I imagine some kind of archive could solve the problem, I guess. But it's also controversial, if the archive would be public... Eh, I don't know...

I think what would be helpful is to have the ability to "soft delete" threads so that admins can reference them and see them but the public cannot

Aw, get better soon Mike.

Deleting content that violates the CoC was bish's original policy, I believe. Then there was some heated member protest about that policy. And deleting offending posts means the public can't tell why someone was banned, which can make it look like members are just being silently assassinated without provocation.

But yeah, it probably deserves its own thread.

Again, that is not an honest representation of what is going on. The protest in that thread wasn't about deleting violating content, it was that said content wasn't a violation in the first place:

"So far as I can tell there was nothing in violation of the TOS."
"There was nothing in violation of the TOS."
"[I]t is a stretch to call that thread a violation of the COC."

It was you that, out of the blue, suggested locking threads instead of deleting them. BSH then took this and just implemented it.

The idea that violating content can be deemed violating but still exist on the site is stupid.

What if you used your DDO account to get people from DDO to this site?  Then the site would grow.

A lot of them have.  However, I imagine most of the people on DDO don't know this site exists.  Advertising to them will turn many previously unaware people into members of this site.  I would do this, but my DDO account malfunctioned.

I tried advertising in the religion forum. It failed. 2 out of the 3 responses I got were extremely rude. The other one was a polite decline.

Are you aware that the 'countdown' of characters only works if you keep the Max as 30k? Otherwise it stays at 5k or somethign permanently and you need to use a character-counter anyway.

That sounds like a bug. I am not sure I understand how to reproduce it, could you please explain in more detail?

While typing the debate of any debate that isn't 30k chars, the 'countdown' of characters doesn't happen at all.

Hi folk,

I just wanted to apologize for the absence of the new features, I've been working on the mafia section and it's taking a while, and that's apart from the fact that I still on my Christmas\New Year holidays and I barely spend any time at home. I will return to my usual working schedule in a few days and the progress will be much faster.

Just didn't want you to think that the website has been abandoned.

A few more suggestions:
  1. Change "Winner Selection" to "Arguments Only" (I can't find the post about it, but I recall there being a rule change to that effect... why not make it self explanatory?)
  2. Change "Four Points" to "Categorical" There are currently 7 points within it to be awarded; so clarity.
  3. Remove points awarded for tied categories (I don't know why it irks me, it just does).
  4. Allow formatting within votes (the options seen in the forums are fine).
  5. Allow formatting within user profiles.
  6. On formatting, adding a strike-through and and indent would be fantastic.

I have found some issue with the counter and fixed it but I am not sure if that was the issue that you had. Let me know if it still happens to you.

the only debates that I am still typing in have 30k char-limit. I don't plan to take one on until I have finished the Islam debate as it requires quite a bit of thinking and I am a bit busy IRL.

If you look at the publication date, and assume it took an additional week or two to finish, there's no way that this debate is having a full six month voting period:

If you take it from November, the voting period should stretch until May. Instead, it is going to end in late Feb. I am even more certain that this is true as I spotted this oddity more blatantly by noticing that my taste battle vs Type1 was gong to end later than my debate vs nmvarco despite both being six month and me definitely having debated Type1 months before.

Wow, that indeed looks like a bug, I don't know how I didn't notice it. I believe I tested these things on the initial release, but I probably introduced the bug later and didn't realize it.

I will try to fix it as soon as possible, thank you very much! I really appreciate all the help! You are amazing, mate :)

I will need to think about it because it may be tricky, but if it's possible, then I will surely add this functionality.

That's another tricky thing since it could introduce lots of confusion, among other things. Most likely I will add it, but it would allow users to change usernames only once in 6 months or something and probably with some kind of notification for, at least, the friends.

Regarding votes:
First, it'd be cool to be able to edit our votes (at least until the timer runs out). By now most of us have probably noticed some little typo a little too late.

Second, it'd be very cool if mod actions were amended onto the vote itself, rather than removing it.
The way I see this working is:
  1. The point score is removed.
  2. The vote is grayed out.
  3. Mod comments are posted below it in red text.
  4. The mod manually posts in the comments to inform the user (unless direct vote notifications are easy to implement)
  5. If a user edits their vote, their former one is deleted (so as to decrease their stigma).

I will add vote editing but it also comes with few gotchas so I'll need to make sure it works properly.

Regarding the second idea, I do like it quite a lot, that's probably what we'll discuss at some point and implement.

There haven't been updates for quite a while and I just wanted to explain what I've been up to.

So I've replaced the assets building system, which is an annoying but required thing and it took me a few evenings just to do that and there is a chance it will introduce some bugs but hopefully we'll fix them quickly. Also I've learned a new technology for writing highly interactive UI, like the PM system that we have and I have almost finished rewriting it, since the previous tech is a disaster that I shouldn't have used in the first place. Once I am done ( probably this weekend ), the PM system will be real-time and it will much easier to extend it to allow conversations with more than 2 people in them. But it will take time to implement that because a lot of things need to be taken into consideration, it only looks easy :)

So I am still working on the project, it's just taking me quite a while because I needed to learn and implement quite a few things behind the scene. But once I am done with that, we'll get back to more frequent releases and bug fixes.
