Every time I bring up the Michael Flynn case it’s Russia to my liberal buddies they just ignore it saying the investigation was justified when Obama officials are on record under oath saying they knew no such thing. The Steele Dossier was fake. The Carter Page warrant was fake. But ya the Russia investigation which showed no collusion was justified because Mueller didn’t come to a conclusion whether Trump obstructed justice for an investigation that showed he didn’t collude.

I agree that the Russia investigation was a pretty big waste of resources. I also agree that there are very fishy elements to the whole thing...

but I'm not sure these articles exactly prove it is on the level of the Watergate scandal. The right wing must be careful to not become hypocrites and undermine our own credibility. Taking the actions of a few and using it as basis to assume the entire system is rigged one way or the other is a Leftist tactic -- one we have consistently opposed.

Not saying it is or isn't a scandal... Just saying we should reconsider hyperbolic claims.

The problem is that everyone is saying they knew nothing about it. Comey says he knows nothing. Yates says she knows nothing. Rosenstein says he know nothing. There’s no way something so large as investigating and wiretapping a presidential campaign during campaign season is unknown by all the higher ups.

Very true, which is why I say there's something fishy going on. I wouldn't call this proof, though. We need to dig deeper

Ofc. This is just the beginning. Once the full Durham Report comes out, it should reveal the top people. Won’t be Obama or Biden although I suspect they were involved especially with the Flynn unmasking by Biden. Probably Comey, McCabe, Strozk, Page, Clapper, or Brennan in my opinion.

watergate was a sitting president criminally breaking into his opponent's offices to get dirt on them.

"russiagate" was the FBI investigating a politician for potentially very serious crimes.

There is absolutely no comparison between the 2. There was lots of circumstantial evidence to think investigating trump's ties was valid and necessary. Therefore they were doing their jobs to investigate it. I'm not saying they are all innocent. It sounds like some of them did commit crimes in pursuing this. But they have valid reasons to think there was a serious crime to investigate. Nixon was just super corrupt and trying to protect his own power.

Don't let your cultish love of trump blind you to reality. Because to people outside your cult you just sounds nuts.

I have no problem with investigations. My problem is they wiretapped a presidential campaign based on evidence they knew was false during an election year into Trump campaign officials.

Everything done was illegally done. The DOJ IG found 17 errors/omissions in FISA applications against Carter Page who was a CIA informant. Their core basis was the Steele Dossier which was proven to be false. If you’re saying top Obama officials and by proxy Obama had no idea about this you’re lying to yourself. You need hard evidence to wiretap an American citizen and there was none besides circumstancial evidence which didn’t even work because Page worked with the CIA.

Again, i'm not saying they didn't commit crimes. Maybe they did. But there was circumstantial evidence that trump and his associates were engaging in crime. They were investigating that potential crime.

ok, but how much of that is standard practice though? the FISA process is super shadowy by design. Saying there were 17 errors or omissions means nothing if that is how lots of FISA applications work.

Their core basis was the Steele Dossier which was proven to be false.
parts of it, sure. Lots of it was very accurate.

If you’re saying top Obama officials and by proxy Obama had no idea about this you’re lying to yourself.
do you think the FBI notifies the president of their investigations? Why would they do that?

There is no evidence that any elected official did anything wrong. There is evidence that some FBI agents committed some crimes while investigating potentially serious crimes. This is nothing even close to the Watergate scandal. So hyping it up will go over great on right wing forums. But to regular people it just sounds stupid.

No. Just that conversations around this topic tend to be unproductive and this thread already has the hallmarks of being an unproductive thread

From your second link,

Kevin Clinesmith plans to admit to one charge of altering an email to another official in 2017 that said Page wasn't a previous government source, when he had been one.
This appears to be a technical foul by an individual.

Do you have any evidence of a "conspiracy"?

It's not a conspiracy any more when Durham and Barr uncovered the facts.

I'm not sure if calling another member a "troll" is considered an "ad hominem attack" (name calling).

Perhaps you're speaking of "troll" in some specifically technical sense?
