My personal theory is the support for the secure communities program

Obama expanded the secure communities program which helps to explain the uptick in deportations during his presidency. It was discontinued due to its unpopularity in indiscriminate deportations rather than only the criminals which explains the drop of deportations after the program was discontinued. The unpopularity of the program while it was active lead to the establishment of "sanctuary cities" which decreased deportations towards the later years of the program.

Trump revived the program upon becoming POTUS, however the sanctuary cities have not revised their stance on supporting the program, leading to decreased deportations.

At any-rate it's a better theory than waving your hand and asserting that there must've been more illegal crossings

I only said going from the statistics of known offenders that were deported. We will never know how many Trump (or Obama) let in illegally that were not caught.

A drop in apprehensions either means a drop of people coming across or a drop in the efficiency of Border Patrol.

Perhaps Trump could borrow Obama's policies if Obama was more efficient at catching illegal invaders?

Maybe increasing the number of officers, getting Mexico to police their side, and sending the National Guard to help isn't as helpful as what Obama did?

Why are you talking about border apprehensions now when you were talking about deportations before?

Because you can't deport a person you haven't caught.

Thought that was obvious, or am I missing something here?

So, how far have you guys got with the wall?

It doesn't make the headlines over hear anymore.

I imagine that it would be a handy little job for all those potential Mexican migrants.

To my understanding, ICE and Border Patrol are two separate agencies.

The article you originally brought up about Obama vs Trump deportation refers to ICE deportations. That is, deportations of aliens already within US borders.

Your later post makes reference to Border Patrol apprehensions which is not the same as ICE deportations. The article you originally brought up does not indicate eitherway whether Border Patrol apprehensions of Trump's presidency compared to Obama's were up or down, only that Obama's ICE deportations were up.

dunno, guess I'll have to look it up, though it must be working since it's not in the news nor are "kids in cages"  go figure, no more outrage, problem solved apparently lol
when you think back to all the outrage over x and yet now it doesn't even get mentioned, much like a child who's grown weary of a new toy and has found another, repeat cycle x number of times.

The problem is that trump commits outrages and crimes on such a regular basis and with such speed that if you dwell on the outrage from last month then you aren't reporting on the outrage today. I agree that these issues deserve more attention from people, but how do you let Trump get away with violating the constitution (his attempt to put the g7 at his resort)? How do you not report on his crimes and impeachment?

If family separation, kids in cages, drinking out of toilets, if those things were real, wouldn't they and shouldn't they take precedence over the g7 issue which became a whole lot of nothing?  would that indicate some really warped sense of importance?  either that or it just wasn't a real issue, it has to be one or the other.
Same thing with the Muller report (insert cricket noise here)
They need to shitcan Shift, however you spell that dumbasses name.  Talk about counterproductive.  He's "evidence" that he never produced etc, cry wolf, that's all this is becoming because of him.

What trump has done to migrants is a terrible thing. Trump attempting to violate the constitution is also a terrible thing. If you ignore the terrible thing he is doing today to focus on a terrible thing he did last month, you let him get away with the new terrible thing. And the reason it became a whole lot of nothing is because both the republicans and democrats pointed out that it was blatantly unconstitutional and trump backed down. If it hadn't gotten any media attention that wouldn't have happened and trump would be continuing with his plan to violate the constitution.

The mueller report contains at least 8 counts of obstruction of justice. I agree that the democrats lost the messaging war in getting that information across. But that doesn't change the fact that the report says trump committed at least 8 crimes. There is still a decent chance he could be charged criminally once he leaves office.

But the Ukraine story is much more straight forward than obstruction. You just need to figure out 1) did trump ask for a thing of value? He has already said he did, so count 1 is already decided. They are basically just pretending like this doesn't exist.

2) did he withhold funding to coerce them into providing that thing of value? Trumps chief of staff said they did, so count 2 is also looking pretty likely. And yes I know he spent all weekend arguing that he didn't mean the thing he said. What he really meant was something completely different from the words he said. But "we do that all the time" is pretty straight forward.

New update, Schiff and Co. have yet to find a single Ukrainian official that knew aid was being withheld.

Any current Ukranian official has a great deal to lose if they say that. That's like saying if a witness won't testify so clearly there was no crime, while a gun is pointed at the witness' head.

No Quid established after almost a month of this nonsense.
1) watergate took months and months to find the truth. Expecting them to know everything after a month is ridiculous. Especially considering the white house has forbidden anyone in the government from co-operating.

2) the white house chief of staff admitted to the quid pro quo in a press briefing last week.

How can you continue to say it is a witch hunt when he has already confessed to 1 crime and his chief of staff has admitted a 2nd? Are you just willfully ignoring reality? Or do you understand that he has committed crimes and just don't care?

If it is the latter then it isn't a witch hunt. You just want to have a criminal president.

Lynchings? Lynchings? LYNCHINGS?

Trump has got to be a racist now. Of course Jerry Nadler wasn’t during Clinton’s impeachment but eh who cares he’s pretty big so we’d be accused of fat shaming people

Another update. The current top diplomat (appointed by Trump government) to Ukraine, Bill Taylor, confirmed in his testimony before congress that he was told that investigating the Bidens was a requirement for the aid money to be released. He also testified that trump insisted that the president of Ukraine needed to publicly announce that they were doing this investigation. He testified that Ambassador Sondland had to told an aide to the president of Ukraine this.

So for those keeping track, that is the current US ambassador to Ukraine and the current Chief of staff to the white house who have confirmed a quid pro quo.

How long do you think continuing to argue that there was no quid pro quo will continue? My guess is that they knew the quid pro quo was going to come out and they were using mulvaney to float their new defense. Namely "this happens all the time". Basically it is the trump classic, "I didn't do it, but if I did do, it totally isn't illegal".

Taylor testified that on September 1 he learned from National Security Council aide Tim Morrison that Sondland had spoken with a top Zelensky adviser, Andriy Yermak, in Warsaw, where Zelensky and Vice President Mike Pence were meeting. Morrison told Taylor that Sondland had informed Yermak that the funding would not come until Zelensky "committed to pursue the Burisma investigation."

Short version. A bunch of idiots and partisan hacks tried to storm into a meeting they had no right to be in so that they can get some attention and suck up to Trump. They aren't on that committee they had no right to be there. There are republicans who are actually on the committee who were there. This is the 2nd time he has pulled this publicity stunt. I hope the sergeant at arms tazes him if he pulls this again.

But this is the new stage of trump defense. They can't disprove the evidence showing trump committed crimes, so they will whine about the process. They want people to look at anything other than Trump, because there is no way you can defend and not look stupid. But if everyone thinks it's just a "witch hunt" then maybe they won't notice all the damning evidence.

These idiots are all over the news. I already new the stupid thing they had done before you posted. Forgive me for not watching a bunch of partisan idiots talk for 20 minutes after they had essentially just committed a break in to get attention. If anyone else had tried that they would have been arrested.

The linger the wait to impeach him, the worst it gets for them. But if they do impeach, they’re screwed. Pelosi is surrounded by two walls closin in rapidly.
