the no fly lists prevents terrorists and other dangerous looking people from flying on a plane. if you are too dangerous to fly on a plane, you are too dangerous to have a gun.

the reason they can have a gun, is because due to gun rights they need to be shown to have beyond a reasonable doubt already committed a crime. that's the wrong standard to use, though. it should be that if they are reasonably foreseeably going to commit a crime, they shouldn't be allowed a gun. of course, this could mean we'd have to amend the second amendment, but this would be worth it.

well, it might be possible to use my standard even with the second amendment, but the courts just don't.

I think there's a principle some people associate with the No Fly list and then there's the reality of how the No Fly list was conceived.

A big problem for retrofit as I understand it is that the No Fly list is already somewhat flawed as it is. Just by being associated with sensitive Intel, you could wind up being heavily monitored, and taking the principle to an extreme, people could even be selectively effected who really need to be thinking about some means to defend themselves.

I think a new federal program needs to be built from the ground up, and of course enacted through cooperation with the states.

Of course making guns illegal will mean less guns, just as building a wall will mean less unauthorized border crossings.

there is no constitutional right to fly that I know of, also there is a presumption on innocence until proven guilty. if you believe someone is dangerous enough to take away their rights how about we just lock people up because they might be dangerous or might commit a crime? doesn't that sound like a good plan?
