Would you buy a used EV that is out of warranty  with 100,000 plus miles on it?

The last two vehicles I bought had 150,000 and 120,000 miles respectively. I have spent about $7000 on both cars in the last 6 years.

1998 Chevy Silverado started with 150,000 now has 215,000 runs perfect. Paid $5000,  Owned for 6 years

2007 Saab 95 started with 114,000 now has 130,000 runs perfect. Paid $3500,  Owned for 2 years

What kind of cars do ya"ll have and have they been good or have they been POS money pits.

Buick and Mazda were moneypits. Hyundai was good until it hit 14 years. So I got a Toyota.

Either you are spectacular at finding good deals on reliable vehicles or you aren't counting a whole lot of "free" mechanic labor.

For $7000 I would. These large lithium ion banks with fully managed charge interfaces have proven far more long lived than anticipated. Unless you make serious engineering mistakes electric motors outlast almost any other machine.

I'd say there is a good chance there is another 50k in a typical EV @100k.

It's a much more complicated question if you swap in a realistic post-inflation (government theft) price like $20k

I was always told growing up that once cars hit 100k then they are minutes away from just crapping out.

The girl just bought a car with almost 200k though and swears to me that cars last longer now days. I don't believe it

Cars for most people, are luxury money sinks.

Doesn't really matter what strategy one employs.

Thing is, modern living is luxurious and costs.

Work, earn and spend wisely...I'm guessing this is what you do.

I think that vehicle ownership is more expensive in the UK,  when compared with the US.

For youngsters, road tax and compulsory insurance can run into several thousands, often more than a car is worth.

Mr's Zed drives a Vauxhall Corsa.

I currently have the benefit of a company leased vehicle, which costs me nothing.

So I sold my Land Rover Freelander, because I couldn't justify the running costs anymore.

We had planned to replace the Corsa in November, when the current warranty expires.

But what to get next is something of a dilemma, given the governments approach to the cost of owning and running a private vehicle.

No. I use my money for better things, like food. I would never buy a car, let alone drive one. Also, I am never getting driver license. It doesnt exactly fit into my economy when my monthly income is less than 200$ even without having a car. Plus, cars hurt animal persons, so having them is a crime against nature.

2012 Toyota Corolla. Had to replace an alternator in 2022, but it has been in a wreck. The previous owner did the repairs. Otherwise, it’s been a good car.

But you are safer in a car than riding a bike.

My wife and I (no, I'm not talking about Cheryl Hines) have a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe. It only has 80,000 miles on it.

So we have decided to skip the EV and wait for the teleporter.
