I'm going to be honest with you, no offense intention. I always thought that the US was a model of a country with strong institutions and thus with little corruption, only compared to Europe, but in light of recent findings in the DOGE program I think it was a huge mistake to believe that. Now I think the US is not that different to the latin american countries.

I'm not being sarcatisc, by the way. You can't imagine how disgrace the corruption is in this side of the continent, specially in Brazil and Argentina. When I heard that Elon Musk found dead people in the staff of some federal agencies the first thing that came to my mind was these hispanic countries and their blatant corruption.

So, what happened, America? What failed in your system? Are your institutions still strong or do they need some adjustments?

Every republic in history goes through this. The Romans knew that once every hundred years or so you needed a dictator to fix the decay and then you go back to normal. We do view ourselves as better than the Romans but there does need to be some ability to make heads roll once in a while to cleanse the government and make it effective and trustworthy again, it looks like the president has found a way to kind of reset the government to be great again.

I think our checks and balances are a decent system, but similar as WyIted says, I think corruption can come and go.
Take Grants presidency for instance,

Though I assume there are various ways to fight corruption, other than Dictatorship, barring the most extreme forms of corruption, and maybe even then.
. . .

I'd imagine that first world infrastructure, money and tech can dampen other forms of corruption, bodycams on police for instance.

I think the root of the problem is that the way people get their news has become fragmented. Now there are many low information and bad information and pure propaganda news out there. It's not just a lack of credibility, each talking head has a different agenda to give their sheep. Before 2010, news sources were more standardized in educating people and setting the agenda. Plus a country in distress will always succumb to a demagauge strongman con man. Maybe we need a different form of government if a single man can cause as much dysfunction as trump. Rank choice voting, parliamentary systems, proportional representation, some ideas that come to mind

Well, I hope Trump clean that up because Musk said recently that he receive a death threat so it seems to be a tough job.

The same thing happens in the hispanic countries, if you dare to change the corrupted system you're fkn dead.

Because corruption started in 2010?

I don't know much about american history but I can guess the corruption scandals are always related to the democratic party. Am I right?

It's the same thing everywhere, the left is the most corrupt in the world.

That's only because Democrats have been mostly in power since 1965. And power is the source of corruption.

I'm unsure, I've not researched the history of corruption by party in America.

I don't think corruption is 'inherently in the charters of either.

It's dangerous. The next person that comes in also usually accuses you or attempting a coup so they can execute you as well

Corruption is as corruption does.

Honour amongst thieves is how the saying goes.

And who is to say which is the more honourable bunch of thieves?

Find a niche, keep your head down, and let the thieves fight it out.

They corrupted the education system long ago. That was the 1st casualty of corruption.

So bad: you have Americans here thinking they are geniuses.

I'd like to read who these Americans are. Is it DoubleR? Or maybe Sidewalker? 😁

There is a saying that goes like this: "there are two kinds of evil people in this world. People who do evil stuff, and people who see evil stuff being done and don't try to stop it."

I don’t know, Victor. I prefer to speak out against the shit politicians and greedy people do in this world. If I could do something more I would do it.
