Essentially we're waiting for Vlad to die, and hoping that a new Russian regime will be a tad more sensible.

Long shot methinks.

The whole of global society is based upon old folk with fixed ideas, dying and being replaced with slightly younger old folk who also have fixed but maybe slightly different ideas.

Perhaps our future A.I. masters will be a tad more pragmatic.

Exactly.

Look at the USA.

US n russia ain't pals y'know, all these ppl are just workin out ways for themselves, possible that trump might ask for somethin in exchange for what he gives vladimir, so if trump is thinkin of actually negotiating, he might just try to create a scenario where it feels like all's settled but who's gonna give up their land? since trump doesn't wanna give that, ''we're weak'' look so he'll just try, but whatever he does won't be much of a solution ig, it might even turn out more bad than it already is.
You are a good Trump predictor.

that doesn't seem so likely, cz why did they capture that all in the first place? only if he did it with some other more higher motive, which could be anything.

What is Russia's reason for invading Ukraine?
Putin espoused irredentist and imperialist views challenging Ukraine's legitimacy as a state, baselessly claimed that the Ukrainian government were neo-Nazis committing genocide against the Russian minority in the Donbas, and said that Russia's goal was to "demilitarise and denazify" Ukraine.

Why is Vladimir so popular in Russia?
Observers see Putin's high approval ratings as a consequence of the significant improvements in living standards and Russia's reassertion of itself on the world scene that has occurred during his period of office. One analysis attributed Putin's popularity, in part, to state-owned or state-controlled television.

well the economics , nationalism, media n stuff does contribute to it, but ig media has the strongest impact, since they can just say anything they've been ordered to.

Putin’s popularity will be tested by the outcome of the Ukrainian war.

Putin is a typical Russian autocrat.

Once upon a time, in the beginning, he was a reasonably affable global statesman, making jokes and messing around at the G20.

Now he has reverted to the default Russian megalomaniacal paranoid position...Someone who's been in the job for far too long.

In fairness, keeping a lid on Russia can't be easy especially for one old man. Whereas the Chinese regime has the job of keeping a lid on China well sorted.

And all that the rest of Europe can do for now is tolerate the guy. And wait for Russians to sort things out...Which is usually what happens.

Europe now has to deal with Putin and Trump.
