GG's, not much to say, balance was way different then I expected. Earth mixed it up wildly from his last two games, I think we would have ended up with mislynches no matter who it was. Will have to take a better critical eye to earth games in the future. Went from 3 vanillas a game to 0 vanillas lol

Finished the first week of the trial.

Getting cross examined by a lawyer whom I was accusing of perjury was fun but a little nerve-racking.

One question though… why did election cake fail?

I'll tell you the negatives, then the positives

Negative

1. The redundancy of the PRs in the setup was always gonna result in town CCing each other, even if I didn't screw up my claim. The rarity of such a design also plays a factor, but a world where this setup was the norm wouldn't be that great.

I think with more PR types there's more unique plays that can be made, and having so much repetition makes setups kinda bland as a whole, because they'd all be repeating the same PRs multiple times in each game. It also means Mafia can claim pretty recklessly, and usually wont have to deal with a CC, provided they make no horrible screw up.

2. Election cake can result in a very easy win for scum. If Skipper had targeted Pie instead of Joebob, town would have instantly lost before DP3. I see what you did to mitigate this- just make a ton of ability denying roles. That relies on the redundancy of the setup, and a little bit of chance.

A better solution is to give town their own voting role. 1. it gives town a chance to counter. 2. It gives town information that scum may have such a voting role. 3. It creates a threat mafia must take down in order to use their voting role. I would say the ball should be in the mafia's court for this one since, in a game without voting roles, they'd have to get the third mislynch anyway.

3. Third party presence in a 9-player game. Third parties can shake up a game a lot, but in this setup, it effectively served as a lynch town would eventually have to get out of the way to achieve their wincon. The survivor was essentially a third scum player, except the other scum also doesn't know about the Survivor and has to take them down.

Making it so that survivor doesn't joint win was a decent idea to prevent teaming, but it came at the cost of interrupting both teams' flow... at least it would have, if Cerulean hadn't openly claimed survivor. So it only messed with town.

In general I would say 9 player games aren't suitable for third parties.

Vaarka's Golden Rule

Idk if Vaarka came up with this, but I think he was the one who taught me this. Did someone on MU come up with it, Cerulean?

The rule is as follows: "Town should be able to survive as many mislynches as there are mafia."

For a 9-player game, this justifies 2 scum. Town can survive 2 mislynches, but will lose the game on a third one. It's a great adjustment to the 25-33% rule that allows for town to have a safety net that is directly in proportion to how many mafiosos they need to catch, based on how much information they are expected to have come MYLO.

I could go more into depth about this, but I'll leave a final note to keep this part brief:

It can also tell us when to include third parties in our setups. Take an 11-player game for example. a 9v2 would be town sided, and a 8v3 would be scum sided. By making the setup an 8v2v1, town cannot survive 3 mislynches, only 2- satisfying the rule. What's neat about an 8v2v1 is how rare mafia teaming with a survivor  can be. Even after two mislynches resulting in a 4v2v1, the survivor still can't team with mafia, because there aren't enough votes to do so.

It should also be noted that voting roles can interfere with this rule.

Positive

The other dreaming God cakes were great. Roleblocks are standard, but the random action cake as a weaker version of said roleblock is great. It means Mafia can spam Roleblocks/redirect as effectively, because one of them has a chance of not harming town. like the more informative tracker cake as well... a way to give the informed majority a bit more information on what town is planning.

The Lie Detector is underrated. Lie detector is essentially a weaker version of a cop. I love it, and your restraint in making sure Whiteflame couldn't cop anything too obvious is a good move as well.

Commuter on a survivor is good choice. I obviously didn't like the presence of a survivor this game, but giving the survivor something other than vanilla is always great when you do put one in the game. Survivor is extremely hard to play because you have neither the information of the Mafia, nor the numbers of town. A PR helps the survivor a lot.
