They were known as the Central Park Five. He was wrong.

The actual perpetrator confessed and DNA evidence confirmed his guilt.

Trump has not only not apologized, but he insists he was right about his actions

He is a disgrace and so are his supporters.

More than a decade after the attack, while incarcerated for attacking five other women in 1989, serial rapist Matias Reyes confessed to the Meili assault and claimed he was the only actor; DNA evidence confirmed his involvement.[4] The convictions against McCray, Richardson, Salaam, Santana, and Wise were vacated in 2002; Lopez's convictions were vacated in July 2022. All five defendants sued the City of New York for malicious prosecution, racial discrimination, and emotional distress; the city settled the suit in 2014 for $41 million.

It would be fun to go around and compile all the times left-tribers on this site spewed "that's the system, respect the jury, bla bla bla". I do however have better things to do such as stare at weeds and gossip.

AI community notes:

The full-page ad read:
"BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY. BRING BACK OUR POLICE!"
"You have people on the street that are not afraid of the police. They’re not afraid of getting arrested. And that is a terrible thing that’s happened to our country. The people of our city have been horribly let down. The last thing we need is to let criminals feel that they have even the slightest chance of getting away with it. It’s time to bring back the death penalty. It’s time to bring back our police."
In summary, Trump’s ad was a broad call for stricter criminal justice measures in response to a violent crime wave in New York City. It was not a direct accusation against the Central Park Five but part of a wider public discourse on crime and punishment.

Thats wrong too. Countries with least crime are those who focus on helping people instead of punishing them.

Trump never apologized for the misdirected vengeance and ran a full-page ad in the New York Timeswith the headline text, "Bring back justice & fairness. Build a brighter future for Harlem!"[143] Raymond Santana, on social media, urged for people to "never forget" Trump's actions.

respect the jury

This wasn’t the jury’s fault. The police used intimidation, withheld evidence and broke the law during their investigation.

That may explain the 41 million dollar settlement

As usual GP lies. In the article, Trump wrote:

He wrote: "I want to hate these murderers and I always will. I am not looking to psychoanalyse or understand them, I am looking to punish them."
In an interview with CNN at the time, he said: "Maybe hate is what we need if we're gonna get something done."

       Here is the truth.
  • In 1989, as New York City was reeling from the “Central Park Five” case in which a woman in Central Park was raped and beaten, Donald Trump took out an ad calling for the reimposition of the state’s death penalty.
  • Two decades later, the five men were exonerated based in part on DNA evidence. One, Yusef Salaam, won a primary earlier this year for a seat on New York’s city council.
  • Despite the exoneration, Trump on at least five occasions has expressed that he continues to believe the original verdict that the men were guilty and that a settlement made by the city was a mistake.

It was found that there were at least five occasions when Trump spoke derisively about the original defendants, even though a decade or more had passed since they had been officially exonerated. (Another man came forward and was proved to have been the perpetrator, based on DNA evidence. In 2014, New York paid the original defendants a $41 million settlement, and supporters have called the group the Exonerated Five.

Donald Trump’s appearance in Howell, Michigan, on Tuesday sparked controversy before he even arrived. That’s because the visit continued his notable tradition of scheduling campaign stops in locations known as hotbeds for racist extremism.
Just last month, a group of white supremacists marched in Howell and expressed their support for Trump and Adolf Hitler. As journalist Jon King wrote for the Michigan Advance, the event evoked memories of Howell’s racist — and in some cases, fairly recent — history of public bigotry and the Ku Klux Klan.

As Trump ended the event and began to shake the hands of Michigan law enforcement he was asked a question from a reporter within the audience: “Mr. President, can you respond to Kamala Harris’ campaign attacking you for being in this town because they say there were white supremacists here a month ago?” the reporter asked.

The question was followed by some boos.

Trump then took to the podium and asked, “Who was here in 2021?”

As someone in the audience responded, “Joe Biden,” a smile filled Trump’s face, and he let out a laugh.

“Thank you,” he said, as crowd members began to clap. “Thank you everybody.”

“All five minors had already been paraded in front of the cameras and had their names and addresses published, but Salaam said he and his family received more death threats after the papers ran Trump’s full-page screed. On a daytime TV show two days later, a female audience member called for the boys to be castrated and echoed the calls for the death penalty if Meili died. Pat Buchanan, the former Republican White House aide, called for the oldest of the group, Wise, to be “tried, convicted and hanged in Central Park by June 1”.

“Michael Warren, the veteran New York civil rights lawyer who would later come to represent the Central Park Five, is certain that Trump’s advertisements played a role in securing conviction”

In Howell last month, about a dozen protesters marched through the city’s downtown, waving flags with white supremacist slogans while chanting in support of the former president.
Just a few miles away on the same day, demonstrators displayed flags with antisemitic messaging and “KKK” written on them over the side of a highway overpass. In videos, protesters were captured chanting, “We love Hitler. We love Trump.”
When Biden was there protesters didn't say “We love Hitler. We love Biden.”
Don't you understand that it is not the location but the type of supporters?

Biden was asked how he felt about seeing Trump signs outside his event in Howell by reporters in the White House Press Pool.

“Makes me smile,” Biden responded. “I get more pumped up.”

Trump deserves the Olympic gold medal for mental gymnastics…

I think I’ve cited that very case in a debate about if he’s racist or not. Contextually, he was calling for the death penalty for those young men, something I guarantee he would not have done if they were white… I make that guarantee, because that’s what crusty old white men in positions of power have done. Death penalty for blacks but as low as six months for whites who commit the same crime (not even counting the literal lynchings of innocent men).

All that said, Trump at least seemed to genuinely believe their guilt when he called for their deaths. It’s a base emotional reaction, amplified by racism, but it’s not evil in it of itself. The police and the prosecution framed them, and frankly did a good job of it. That Trump cannot accept he got tricked says many negative things about his poor mental functioning now, but when he ran the ad he was just of mediocre mental ability.

Pretty much agree with all this. It does seem when it comes to crime that there are very fine racists on both sides, one side that will bend over backwards to oppress and demonize while the other side bends over backwards to accommodate and idolize based solely on skin color. As long as it remains politically profitable and consumers demand this magical science of skin color, the status will quo.

...and since Trump didn't run an ad to reinstate the death penalty for those crusty old white men who were convicted of gangrape and assault that left the person in a comma for two weeks that proves it huh?

What if those cases were not brought to public attention? Doesn't that prove the "racism" of the media and not Trump?

When it comes to objectively figuring out if someone is a racist, you have to physically count the instances where the person attributes skin color to character. If Trump at any time used the word "Black" or "White" (referencing skin) in his ads, that would be solid proof. For example, Joy Reid has more than a dozen instances of publicly attributing character to skin color, so it's not hard to figure out if she is objectively a racist or not. Joe Biden has attributed many times a person's skin color to be a positive attribute of their character. While it's easy to claim Trump is "dogwhistling," that really just shows confirmation bias in the absence of this objective proof of racism where a person's character is dependent on skin tone.

he most definitely was not the sharpest political animal in the 80's

Trump donated a good bit of money to Jesse Jackson’s presidential campaigns in 1984 and 1988. Jackson surely benefitted greatly as the donations came from a high-profile and well known businessman who was not traditionally aligned with Jackson’s political base, helping him to win support with whites and moderates. (Although Trump was pretty left with his beliefs back then)

It's amazingly ironic then, that Trump supported a guy who went on in the 90's to be one of the most prominent race grifters in American politics second only to Rev Al Sharpton, and then decades later get catcalled incessantly for dogwhistling about race. Assuredly, this is definitely on the low end of mental ability.

You lie

Though Jackson praised Trump in the late ’90s, he said he was wary of the man, owing to his demonization of the Central Park Five—the group of young black kids Trump wanted executed after they were wrongfully jailed for the near death of a Central Park jogger.

Define “a good bit” . Trump also said he donated to everybody that way if they win they will do you favors

Yes, they're doing it openly like Hitler saying he wants to solve the jewish problem and yet somehow everyone else but them is to be suspected of harboring a secret racism.

Occam's razor (which is not Double R's magical personal sword) would ask us to question which requires fewer assumptions:

A) that the people constantly making inferences, condemnations, and heaping praise on the basis of race are racists
B) or that they are not and instead the people who insist on colorblindness (the opposite of inferences, condemnations, and praise based on race) are the real racists

Although Trump was pretty left with his beliefs back then
Or there aren't really such things as "left" beliefs now or then. There are the corrupt, the gullible, and a few true idealists (like myself and SJWs) whom they try to manipulate by using ethical language they know we will respond to.

Perhaps Trump was just paying the bribes that all powerful people do to the system which attacks people who don't play ball. They certainly didn't seem to have a problem with Trump (supposedly) being a psycho racists misogynist rapist idiot back then did they?

Of course not, that's why it was so ironic that he literally fed the beast that ate him.

He openly admitted that many times in 2016: that you had to do that to survive in the crony business world.
