Welcome to US Presidential Elections Mafia! DP threads will last 72 hours each. This one will end on Wednesday, August 21st at 2:30 PM EDT.

Rules:

  1. No copy-pasting your role PM, pretending to do so, or giving a version of it which is almost not changed at all.
  2. No editing or deleting posts. 
  3. No conversing about the game outside of the DP threads or any approved chats.
  4. No liking posts after dying.
Other information about the game:

  • This is a nine player game with two mafia players. It is also a 'role madness' game, meaning that every player has a unique role and there are no vanillas.
  • Before the start of the game, the mafia team was given the opportunity to ask if two roles are in the game.
  • Every character is a presidential election from US history. There is a theme split.
  • I will not answer questions in-thread, except to give a time check or a vote count. Please direct all other questions to me over DM.
  • I will not answer questions about roles other than your own or about hypothetical roles, unless the answer would directly impact how your own role would work. Questions about 'flipped' roles are generally okay.

I’m honestly pretty curious about what the theme split will be. There doesn’t seem to be an apparent one if all of them are presidential elections.

Maybe partially rigged elections, like 1877?

I’m running around a good deal today, but I’ll try to chime in when I get a chance.

Basic thoughts for now: I don’t think the character claim gives up much information about my role, not sure about the rest of you.

I think it’s valuable to be able to narrow down claims a bit at least by saying whether we’re pre-or post-2000 (was considering by decade, but that might be a little too specific… honestly this might be a bit too general). Personally, I’m pre-2000.

I think that’s a good Idea. I’d expand it to say the specific century, seeing as there are probably some ones from the 17 and 1800’s.

I have a couple of themes in mind. I think we can do 20 year spans to lock people in their character claims. My character is somewhat justified by the role. I’m in the 2000s-2020s range.

I’m 1900s, and I’ll even go so far as to say I’m 1960-1980. 

My role isn’t ultimately obvious by my year, but it does make sense if you research the election a bit.

Okay, here’s a list of elections that I think are probably in the game. I went by how interesting of famous they are, but my role PM makes me think that it also might be just ones that Casey thought were interesting.

  • 1912 (Bull Moose)
  • 1800 (Jefferson v Adams v Burr)
  • 1864 (Lincoln v McClellon)
  • 1876 (Hayes v Tilden)
  • 2016 (Trump v Clinton)
  • 2000 (Bush v Gore)
  • 1840 (Harrison v Van Buren)
  • 1960 (Kennedy v Nixon)
However, I would not have expected my year to be included, so this could all be way off.

Good list, though I’ll note that mine isn’t in there (should be obvious given that those dates do not include my 20 year period). I don’t think Casey’s going for more famous elections, at least not as a given.

Yeah, I personally find some of the more old elections more I interesting, but Casey might be going for a modern feel. Also, he might just pick on which ones translate to roles easier.
Based on my election and what I’m seeing from the ranges claimed so far, it’s going to be tough to narrow down claims based on what is most likely to be among Casey’s picks. That being said, there are a handful of infamous elections that probably comprise scum’s characters, even though they’re likely to fake claim. When I get a chance to do some research and compile a list, I will.
