Welcome to Mahabharata Mafia! This is a Role Madness game meaning there are NO VANILLAS. Instead of giving mafia fake roles/claims outright, I changed it up a little. Mafia can ask if any two characters are in the game or not, and I will truthfully answer. Mafia can also ask if any two roles are in the game, and I will truthfully answer. This is so scum are incentivized to do research, but at the same time have the opportunity to not be burned with a thematic split since this game does have a thematic divide distinguishing the factions. Please play towards your wincon at all times and be active!

Just some quick rules:

1) No editing or deleting posts of any kinds
2) No copy/pasting your role PM (please paraphrase)
3) No cryptography of any kind
4) No communication outside of the mafia game
5) No liking/upvoting posts after you die

I reserve the right to add any other rules that are commonplace that I may have forgotten to list.

If you have any questions, please PM me directly. Also, PM me if you would like a vote count at any point in time, though I will try to be proactive in posting counts. All DPs will be 72 hours and NPs 24 hours unless the NP ends with everyone submitting actions earlier.

I know next to nothing about the theme on this one - Indian texts are definitely not my forte - but I’ll be doing some reading during this game to try and address that deficit so I can at least be some help with theme analysis.

Also, my wife has a performance in less than an hour, so I won’t be on for a good portion of the evening.

Claiming characters this early seems like a bad idea anyway, since all it does is help scum narrow down what they can claim and get away with.

I think it all depends on who your character is. If it's someone that you don't really care about the Mafia knowing, its smart to put it out there, people should also get a bit of a pass early on if their role is really important.

Zero meaningful activity, so a slight nudge to encourage the ball to get the ball rolling. Now we already have someone (me) being asked their motivation for an action.

Plus, some inevitable but undeserved town cred.

Point taken. From everything I'm reading into The Mahabharata, there are plenty of characters in the text to draw from, so I suspect scum won't have trouble figuring out fake claims. 

Also, surprised no one has mentioned it so far, but this part of the setup from Pie:

is also going to make it easier for scum to fake claim.

It's worth working with whatever information we're provided by Pie to whatever degree we're able, even if it only gives us hints on plausible characters and theme splits. He gave a verse from the Bhagavad Gita, which mainly features three characters by name: King Dhritarashtra, Sanjay and Pandu (though he's only asked after). In particular, the king seems to be a major character in the Mahabharata, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's in this game. Doesn't indicate a plausible theme split since the verse just covers the king's desire to know what is going on on the battlefield of Kurukshetra (it's going to be fun keeping up with misspellings of all these names). Maybe it is just as straightforward as one side vs. another on a given battlefield, and given that other major characters like Krishna and Yudhishthira were on the other side, there might be something to that.

Just some thoughts for now, don't want to go too far down this rabbit hole based on a single quote.

Does Vader tend to be inactive when he is town? I checked the last game when he was scum, and he took a good while to post then too. But I've only played with him twice, so I'm not sure how much that matters.

My experience is that it’s not indicative of affiliation for him. That being said, being inactive is a good way to fly under the radar, so regardless of affiliation, his activity matters.

Vader/Supa is in college these days. So analysis of old games of his will be less insightful.
