@Swagnarok
Donbas is full of ethnic Russians, so Donbas =/= "Ukraine"
See 2014 Donbas war on Wikipedia for clarification.

It's not so simple as "hur-durr...Donbas = Ukraine and Russia invaded Ukraine..." there's an ongoing civil war over who should control the Donbas led directly by the ethnic Russians living in the Donbas. What Ukraine wants to do to the Donbas is essentially what Palestine wants to do with Israel (drive them out and replace the Russian speakers with ethnic Ukrainians), only the Donbas has much better support than Palestine.

You make an observation about Vietnam, but you need to understand who is on the defense here. Many of the soldiers in the Donbas trenches who have held the line for 3 years are in fact ethnic Russians living in Donbas. (their homeland). Any student of WW1 knows what it's really going to take to recapture all that Donbas territory with thousands of miles of trench networks built up over the past 3 years. You can't just drone strike your way to victory here. It's going to take men, a LOT of men, and it's going to be very bloody.

Otherwise, I generally agree with what you said except for the idea that Russia would willingly start WW3 by occupying all of Ukraine. That's crazy talk. Again, we don't want nukes in Cuba, and Russia doesn't want nukes in Ukraine. Fair is fair.

Fences > Trenches.

Thought I replied this comment before. My error.

You dont grasp the simple logical, common sense critical thinking math. Thats old news regarding the Orange GreyParrot.

All-for-one and one-for-all spirituality is rather simple, logical common sense critical thinking conclusions for continuation of humanity on Earth and not apocalypse.

Your stuck in a thousand year old trench mentality. Old news for regarding the Orange Grey Parrot.

I prefer tunnels, but sure, trench is fun to be in too. Do you think modern weapons stand any chance against a trench? And doesnt trench just let the enemy know where you are? It takes lots of trench miles to be enough. If your soldiers are crowded, they are easy targets, but if they are too far from each other, then they are vunerable to enemy's surprise charges.

Trench networks have tunnels and concrete bunkers. It's like a fun corn maze only with more boom booms.

Do you think modern weapons stand any chance against a trench?
Not really. Surgical strikes only hurt a fraction of trench defenses. WW1 proved you can't simply bomb entire trench networks with artillery. There's no getting around massive loss of human life in order to capture the territory with conventional weaponry. Even if we were to bring out the classics: DDT, Agent Orange, and Mustard gas, it won't be enough. They are dug in like a tick. Trenches were supposed to be a deterrent to war. We just forgot about history and making peace.

What about cluster bombs which were delivered to Ukraine?

Cluster bombs are basically illegal artillery, as about up to 10 percent of the little bomblets fail to detonate, and kids 10 years from now will find them in the ground thinking it's a toy until it explodes...

It's okay though, because it's just a bunch of dead white kids on basically another planet.

More than 100 countries have signed the Convention on Cluster Munitions, including the UK, France, and Germany. However, the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia have not signed the treaty, and cluster bombs have been used throughout wars with these nations.

So would you say that Ukraine will kill itself trying to capture trench networks, and after Ukraine uses all its resources and fails, Russia will capure remaining Ukraine while facing little resistance?

Not really.
So if trench networks are so good, are you suggesting that Ukraine digs more trenches as well, so we can have modern trench warfare, or is it a bit too late for that?

Ukraine has trenches. The war was basically over 3 years ago, it's just been lied about on both sides to keep the money flowing. There's no profit in peace.

So you are saying it will remain mostly as it is? With no significant changes in territory control? Just attrition warfare until one side runs out of resources?

Most of them would prefer the bloody status quo continue another 2 years to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren living their entire lives under the heel of a fascist state that denies their culture and human rights.
I almost missed this. This is a gross conceptualization error on the state of Ukraine today. Ukraine has no democracy at the moment. Press questioning the government is heavily regulated by the state. Religious and ethnic cleansing are ongoing operations since 2014. Ukraine in many ways is already there.

Can the military industrial complex further profit by such a move?

Its only my opinion, but I believe Russia invaded Ukraine because the US and other western countries were turning  it in to a cesspool to launder money and child sex trafficking/ sex slavery. But again just my opinion based on sources not spoon fed to me by main stream media. Try and track a single dollar that has been sent there from the US since Russia invaded.
