Round 1
- firstly, i would like to highlight the disadvantages of SANCTIONS1. YES sanctions are used to punish those who break international laws but it's important to look at their negative impacts.sanctions pose limited influence in policies of targeted countries and their leaders 2. sanctions limit the economic well being of people in targeted countries in somecases leading to starvation 3. they undermine economic and civil liberties; instead of encouraging centralised state control .4. they don;t work well in crippling a country with no significant exposure to the economy of the sanctioned country . before i close my agrument QUESTIONS THAT I NEED TEAM OPP TO ANSWER IN THIS DEBATE
1.do sanctions increase domocracy.2 why are sanctions important in international relations ? do sanction work ? provide a country where sanctions worked without harming citizens . WITHOUT ANSWERS TO THOSE QUESTIONS I CLAIM THIS DEABTE.
YES sanctions are used to punish those who break international laws but it's important to look at their negative impacts. sanctions pose limited influence in policies of targeted countries and their leaders 2. sanctions limit the economic well being of people in targeted countries in somecases leading to starvation 3. they undermine economic and civil liberties; instead of encouraging centralised state control .4. they don;t work well in crippling a country with no significant exposure to the economy of the sanctioned country .
Now, these claims are all true. It is true that sanctions rarely make a country change its policies, and it is true that it harms innocent people of that country.
The only advantage of sanctions is that they somewhat limit the amount of money government of authoritarian country can get, but they also limit the country who is imposing sanctions. I am not really sure what argument to make here, so I will go to questions.
.do sanctions increase domocracy
Rarely.
.2 why are sanctions important in international relations ?
Its a way of saying "we dont want to trade with that country because its doing bad things."
do sanction work ?
I only know examples of nazi Germany, Russia and North Korea, and those are not really examples of sanctions working.
provide a country where sanctions worked without harming citizens
Well, the point of sanctions is to harm citizens, so this is kinda asking the impossible.
