This is a short debate. Just present as much points as you can think of.
Round 1
Laptop is not more expensive than pc, because pc must also buy screen and keyboard. This costs a lot.
Laptop can be carried anywhere. It can be moved quickly. Pc needs lots of time to be moved.
Laptop has battery, which enables it to work anywhere for some time without being connected to power source.
Laptop is much more suitable to watch movies on, since it can be moved and screen be adjusted.
Laptop is perfect for travel and can fit on a bicycle. This means you can carry fun with you.
Laptop takes very little space and isnt a bother to place and position anywhere, even on lap or bed.
Laptop is better for chatting and writing, which demand comfort, ability to move around and not be fixed.
Pc has you fixed in one place, and you cant move monitor much without moving everything else too.
Pc weighs much more, which means you must use more energy and bother when you move it around.
Pc comes in lots of parts, which all must be moved individually if you are to move it.
Laptop uses much less resources to make, so it is better for environment and reduces trash in environment.
Laptop doesnt need battery to work, so even after battery dies eventually, you can still use laptop normally.
Laptop is better for body position. Computer makes people sit in a position which is very unhealthy for them.
Pc is a lot harder to clean and much more dust comes in all its parts, creating extra work.
Laptop is better for reading, since it allows reader to take comfortable position, where pc is fixed position.
Foremost, I thank Pro for allowing me to participate in this debate – my first one on this website.
I will assume that Pro is arguing that laptops are objectively better than desktop PCs, which I contend to be false for the following reasons:
Performance
Laptops employ integrated graphics. While good for casual computer users, it lacks the same performance as discrete graphics. For computer users frequently using resource-intensive programs (such as in the case of high-end gaming or content creation), the performance provided by integrated graphics is simply inadequate.
Power consumption also plays a role. Desktop PCs employ power supply units (PSU) with a capacity of hundreds of watts, as compared to laptops, which employ power adapters with a significantly lower watt capacity.
Lifespan
Laptops generally tend to have an shorter lifespan than desktop PCs. This can be attributed to more exposure to possibilities of external damage, and the integrated design which presents a risk of overheating. Desktop PCs on the other hand are less exposed to possibilities of external damage due to being confined at a stationary location, and space within a tower unit either allows for air cooling or water cooling, lowering the risks of overheating.
Customisability
The discrete components of a desktop PC are easily customisable and interchangeable (e.g. case tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse), as compared to the integrated components of a laptop, which are specific to its build model.

Laptops often have built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This saves money cost. Laptop can use any Wi-Fi outside.
Laptops are prefered for work because they make work easier. Imagine if you had to carry PC around.
Laptops produce no noise, while PC tends to produce lots of noise. This is important for peaceful surroundings.
Many laptops feature touchscreen displays, which is good and additional feature which PC doesnt have, making laptops fun.
Many laptops have webcam and some even have microphone, which makes them more useful and similar to smartphones.
Laptops consume less power than PCs, which means less electricity needs to be produced, saving environment and money.
Laptops are ideal for vacations. You are not really carrying PC anywhere. Its too much stuff, too heavy.
Laptops often have much better appearance, where PC doesnt have attractive appearance and doesnt contain style, isnt attractive.
Laptops are convenient for schoolwork and research. Its a lot easier to research things on laptop than on PC.
Many laptops are powerful enough for gaming. 2024 laptops arent any inferior to PC anymore in this area.
Laptops make it easy to work anywhere, even on surfaces which are not flat. PC cant do same.
Laptop technology is constantly improving. Most computers are currently trying to be smaller like laptops, proving laptop superiority.
Most people find laptops better, since laptop can do everything a computer can, and more. Laptop is more power-efficient.

This is a subjective assumption, and I hold this to be false. Desktop PCs are much more customisable than laptops.

Pro has not cited any sources to back this claim up. I argue for the opposite (PCs are superior), because of reasons I have already stated (see Performance).

I fail to see how that can be inferred. A laptop is just a smaller, portable form of a computer. Laptops are more power-efficient, but this comes at the cost of performance.

Its not an assumption. Many people like touchsceen displays. Are you saying those people should be denied of it?

Most people think that laptops look better than computers. Its not really an assumption. People determine what is good.

My opponent didnt use sources either. Common knowledge laptops with 16 gb RAM support overwhelming majority of things.
There are also laptops with 32 gb RAM, which is more than average person even needs or uses.
So how exactly does this prove laptop 'superiority'?
It proves that size of laptop is much much superior, since computer is trying to become that size.
Laptop isnt trying to become the size of pc, so we can clearly see which size is more desirable.
Laptops are more power-efficient, but this comes at the cost of performance.
This is, again, false. The performance which average person needs is completely satisfied by laptop as much as pc.
Laptops can play almost any game out there, play movies, music, write documents, use internet, do all things.
My opponent hasnt said what is it that laptop cannot do, what average person needs more than laptop.
Laptop will save electricity bill greatly over 5 years of its life, does anything PC can, saves environment.
Laptop can be customized, because you can buy a laptop which you think looks/works better. Plenty of choices.
By all standards, laptop is greatly superior. Laptop shape is future, more suitable, where PC shape is past.
I argue that Pro must demonstrate that the features of a laptop are more favourable than that of desktop PCs in all circumstances to prove that they are objectively better. I believe that Pro has only given independent statements without demonstrating this. Pro has also largely not addressed my points (See Con #2), so I maintain that my position (laptops are not objectively better than desktop PCs) is correct.

- Someone may like something, but that doesn't automatically make it good. One's preference to smoking doesn't make smoking good. Also, I was never implying that people should be denied touchscreen displays...
- Pro is asserting without evidence that most people think that laptops look better than desktop PCs...
- I believe for claims like 'laptops in 2024 aren't inferior to PCs in gaming', there should be statistics backing it up. Also, there are desktop PCs with 16gb and 32gb RAM, so what exactly is stating this trying to prove?
- Exactly, because laptops are meant to be portable. But I argue that it only proves that 'smaller is better' in some methodologies.
- The gist of what I was stating is that laptops in general perform worse than desktop PCs, not that laptops can't do anything. Also, Pro has largely not refuted my points, so I fail to see how laptops are superior by all standards.
Once again, I am thankful that Pro has allowed me to be in this debate.
Why doesnt anyone accept? I can make it rated if thats the issue. I think I took worse position.
I do get more use out of my lap than my computer. ;)
